hotel questions after DmDD

Doing my Due Diligence about hotels was very difficult: search for hotels brings up 17,000 results; going back thru recent thread titles, brings up almost only the Raya.

I've always stayed at Raya, but I'd like to upgrade. I'd be grateful for your input, experienced and expert members. 

 

I found 9 worthy hotels in the vicinity, most of them mentioned in the forum. According to rates for 1st week of Nov, thEy can be grouped as following:

Raya, siam heritage, quarter, ibis, siam hotel - $65-75 per night;     montien, voco - $120-140;     meridien, crowne - $190.

It's a bit startling: basic, double, triple; nothing inbetween.

 

Questions:

1. Have I missed additional candidates?

2. In each group, which one is most recommended?

3. Where's the best brkfst? 

4. Any hotel with an added touch? free jacuzzi, special services, staff to be offed... (-:

If you ask me , my most favorite hotels are Raya and Baan Silom soi 3 , rest either too costly or rooms too small or both

I stay at the Meridien,  executive floor. Great lounge, very comfortable, evening snacks mean you dont need to go out.  Fantastic choice for breakfast. Short stagger to Patpong. But on pricey side.

Quarter Silom & Quarter Saladang was always my first preference mainly because they had a good gym 🏋️‍♂️

And Quarter Silom hotel  is walking distance to Silom bars 🍻 .the breakfast is Shit though ,buffet with Chinese type sausages 

But...some of the last trip I stayed at the Tartawan hotel 🏨 because I couldn't be arsed if that's the right word paying 3 X the amount to stay at Quarter silom and the big guy at Tartawan reception always looks after me AND they check ID of every visitor which I like 

On another scale I also sometimes stay at the 20,000 baht a night Capella hotel which I don't find any different to the other hotels but if you like Riverfront 🚢area of Bangkok 

Pics buffet Quarter silom , couldn't see anything good there ,all Chinese ) Asian food and I don't like rice and pork for breakfast so just had cakes and used the soup bowls for my coffee ☕ ☕ 

Gone are the days of real beef sausages with crispy bacon and toast ..

Yes well ... If I stay at Quarter Silom I wasn't happy as the rooms are small with no balcony

I love Siam Heritage, stay there most visits.

A very quick walk to Tawan, and Patpong, nice and close for the boys to come back to. No hassles from the front desk.

Nice spacious rooms, outdoor pool and great gym, full of old school clunky equipment for serious workouts, and they don't care what you wear (or don't wear) while doing it!

Last visit I was mid workout, shirtless, when a beautiful African guest joined in, but not before stripping down to the tightest, tiniest, bright red par of speedos to work up a sweat on the treadmill  right in front of me.... very distracting indeed!

The Montien used to have a strict no joiners policy and I believe that is still the case. 

When I have guests I cannot accommodate at home, I always put them up at Le Siam on Soi Convent. It's 3 minutes walk to Silom Soi 4, 5 minites maximum to the Skytrain and a minute longer to the MRT. Close to lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. Usually priced around US$50 in the low season and $60 in the high season for a classic double room.

A little more up market there is the Rose Residence just round the corner from Le Meridien on Suriwong. High season $90 double room.

The Quarter by UHD  Saladaeng is in my experience, somewhere I will never stay again.  It's only merit is it's location.

 

We checked in very much looking forward to our “executive suite’ 

The last 9 months hadn’t been the most comfortable so anything executive sounded like a win win…

We opened the door of the suite to find a very disappointing room.

It was large, but really, a table and two old chairs, no sofa, a funny little ‘office desk’ with a fake brass lamp? Are you fucking kidding me? For a month? This place hasn’t seen anything new since 1972… look at the state of it…so tired…. Not executive by my standards…. 

OK so maybe the hotel photos are misleading on booking dot com and I’m not checking what the room actually has as I hit OK on the checkout.

 

I went down to reception and explained I wasn’t happy, I am here for a month, I’ve just forked out 69.445 baht for this, I want a fucking sofa, we can’t spend a month with just a table and two chairs! 

The chap at reception understood my dilemma, checked his screen and found us a room much the same but with at least, a window sofa seat kind of arrangement,  I didn’t have much choice but to take it……

 

The laundry is a rip off, I did not like seeing a cockroach among the ham and sauage on my one of two breakfasts, breakfast is fucking disgusting, to put it midly.

On a side note, I have seen a number of asian porn movies made in the rooms at the hotel, I recognised the orange window seat and bedroom.

Yes I agree most times 

Although when I always check in there I get the large room eg (one bedroom separately ) that usually does a have a sofa 🛋️

I have gone off the the Quarter Saladang and gravitated towards the Quarter Silom although I did go back to Tartawan for awhile 

Another great hotel with pool n gym is the AT EASE which is nearby

Has Le Siam done any renovations in the last 6 years? Last time I stayed, they still had oldfashioned keys, no room key cards. The pool was more the size of a bathtube...

Out of curiosity, Siam Heritage has an information sheet which stipulates that visitors must report to reception and that there is a 900 baht joiner fee. So I'm wondering how you got round that. Do you just bypass the reception altogether?

I just ignore the information sheet, walk past the reception with the big boys from Tawan, who I'm sure they would see often and know why they are there, as the location is so close. Smiles and greetings all round as we walk by.... I do carry my booking confirmation which states a room for 2 guests, if they want to try charging me extra for the time there are 2 guests they better be ready with a discount for all the times there is only myself in the room!

So far, no dramas, touch wood!

Montien Hotel is now under new management and joiners policy has been abandoned. My source has recent experience. Management has also started rehabbing the adjoining original building. Occupancy rates have significantly increased over past year. The gym is well equipped and breakfast buffet on par with Meridian. It's can often be booked for about 3k on Agoda....

Le Siam looks like a nice hotel....but I'd probably have to take grab to get to the other side of Silom 🧐
