  2. Do you really believe that? The USA is on a downhill spiral. Once a great nation, the lunatics have taken over the asylum and taken the country with it. America will soon be run by Christian zealots and Americans will be looking to the world dumbfounded asking, "what happened?" The answer is simple. With every step of our liberties and freedoms removed, we are less than a great nation. I had hope that Obama would be the catalyst for change. He was not. He was a pussy in wolf's clothing.
  3. What a sad story and a very kind act of compassion from the pilot. The story did bring me to tears.

  7. Changes for America & Cuba Moments ago the White House announced that the President has ordered significant changes to policies regarding Cuba. Full announcement below: Reaching Out to the Cuban People Today, President Obama has directed the Secretaries of State, Treasury, and Homeland Security to take a series of steps to continue efforts to reach out to the Cuban people in support of their desire to freely determine their country’s future. The President has directed that changes be made to regulations and policies governing: (1) purposeful travel; (2) non-family remittances; and (3) U.S. airports supporting licensed charter flights to and from Cuba. These measures will increase people-to-people contact; support civil society in Cuba; enhance the free flow of information to, from, and among the Cuban people; and help promote their independence from Cuban authorities. The President believes these actions, combined with the continuation of the embargo, are important steps in reaching the widely shared goal of a Cuba that respects the basic rights of all its citizens. These steps build upon the President’s April 2009 actions to help reunite divided Cuban families; to facilitate greater telecommunications with the Cuban people; and to increase humanitarian flows to Cuba. The directed changes described below will be enacted through modifications to existing Cuban Assets Control and Customs and Border Protection regulations and policies and will take effect upon publication of modified regulations in the Federal Register within 2 weeks. Purposeful Travel. To enhance contact with the Cuban people and support civil society through purposeful travel, including religious, cultural, and educational travel, the President has directed that regulations and policies governing purposeful travel be modified to: * Allow religious organizations to sponsor religious travel to Cuba under a general license. * Facilitate educational exchanges by: allowing accredited institutions of higher education to sponsor travel to Cuba for course work for academic credit under a general license; allowing students to participate through academic institutions other than their own; and facilitating instructor support to include support from adjunct and part-time staff. * Restore specific licensing of educational exchanges not involving academic study pursuant to a degree program under the auspices of an organization that sponsors and organizes people-to-people programs. * Modify requirements for licensing academic exchanges to require that the proposed course of study be accepted for academic credit toward their undergraduate or graduate degree (rather than regulating the length of the academic exchange in Cuba). * Allow specifically licensed academic institutions to sponsor or cosponsor academic seminars, conferences, and workshops related to Cuba and allow faculty, staff, and students to attend. * Allow specific licensing to organize or conduct non-academic clinics and workshops in Cuba for the Cuban people. * Allow specific licensing for a greater scope of journalistic activities. Remittances. To help expand the economic independence of the Cuban people and to support a more vibrant Cuban civil society, the President has directed the regulations governing non-family remittances be modified to: * Restore a general license category for any U.S. person to send remittances (up to $500 per quarter) to non-family members in Cuba to support private economic activity, among other purposes, subject to the limitation that they cannot be provided to senior Cuban government officials or senior members of the Cuban Communist Party. * Create a general license for remittances to religious institutions in Cuba in support of religious activities. No change will be made to the general license for family remittances. U.S. Airports. To better serve those who seek to visit family in Cuba and engage in other licensed purposeful travel, the President has directed that regulations governing the eligibility of U.S. airports to serve as points of embarkation and return for licensed flights to Cuba be modified to: * Allow all U.S. international airports to apply to provide services to licensed charters, provided such airports have adequate customs and immigration capabilities and a licensed travel service provider has expressed an interest in providing service to and from Cuba from that airport. The modifications will not change the designation of airports in Cuba that are eligible to send or receive licensed charter flights to and from the United States. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/01/14/changes-america-cuba

  13. These 2 places are ran by different people but they share some services. At least that is the way I understand it. Firecat, thanks for the review. It was a very well-written and honest approach to the place. I enjoyed my meal there but I just wanted a turkey sandwich and there was no way to mess that up. I also enjoyed their desert. They have a great location and I hope they keep moving forward during high season an make the place a success!

  18. Washington (CNN) -- Maryland is poised to become the sixth state to recognize same-sex marriage as proponents say they believe they have enough support to pass such a measure in the upcoming legislative session. The expansion of gay rights appears to have gained significant traction as Maryland's General Assembly begins its 90-day session Wednesday. Not only are Democrats optimistic about their chances of approving same-sex marriage, but a leading Republican, sensing momentum on the issue, has instead countered with a proposal to grant civil unions to gay couples. Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley has publicly stated that he would sign a marriage bill into law. Maryland then would join Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont and Washington, D.C., in sanctioning same-sex marriages. Maryland has been inching toward granting greater rights and protections for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Last year Democratic state Attorney General Doug Gansler offered a legal opinion recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions. "We've been marching in this direction for a while now," said Democratic state Delegate Heather Mizeur. Mizeur, one of the state's seven openly gay legislators, said marriage is simply the expansion of other rights afforded gay couples in recent years, such as granting protections for hospital visitations and extending health insurance benefits. "It just took a little while to get us there, but we're seizing the moment. It's our time," Mizeur said. Democrats in Maryland fared much differently in the November elections than they did in rest of the nation when nearly two dozen state legislative chambers switched from Democratic to Republican control. Despite losing six seats in the House of Delegates, Maryland Democrats picked up two seats in the Senate and have maintained their supermajority in each chamber. The two-seat pickup in the Senate is viewed as the final hurdle needed for passage of the marriage bill. Given those dynamics, the Republican leader of the Senate is offering an alternative. 19. There is a new cable show called Shameless. I just watched the first episode. I enjoyed it. It did remind me a bit of The Riches out a few years back and that show didn't make it too long. Anyone else catch a glimpse of this show?
  20. Only first hand experience and I didn't have my phone with me. I'll try to take some photos for you though if you want.
  21. It is very classy and IMHO brilliant. It looks great and was very creative.
  22. The old Kaos, Villa Rouge is now open as a beer bar. The new decoration looks Fantastic! I love the way they took the boys from the large sign and moved in inside as wall decor. The bar is large and open and lighted. It brings new life to that area of the Soi. They had a soft opening tonight. Lots went in for drinks and to support the bar. Good luck to the new owners of Treet's Bar!
  23. I am not sure. Perhaps control? I have been to Babylon several times and was hit on by very handsome Thai guys but never was interested in a dark room. I guess I much prefer the comfort of my own room most of the time. When in Brazil, I don't have much of a choice for safety reasons I would would take most of the guys to my room.
  24. BANGKOK (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of "red shirt" demonstrators marched in Thailand's capital on Sunday to demand the release of the movement's leaders in their first rally since the lifting of an eight-month state of emergency last month. The protest by about 30,000 people aimed to pressure the government to end what the red shirts say are unlawful detentions and suppression of dissent in the wake of deadly clashes between troops and demonstrators last year. The latest request for bail for the leaders, charged with terrorism, was denied on Tuesday and the march from two symbolic locations where 91 people were killed and more than 1,800 wounded showed the movement's strength had yet to wane. The mostly rural and urban working-class protesters gathered at Democracy Monument in Bangkok's old quarter before moving on foot and on motorcycles toward a downtown shopping district which they had occupied for seven weeks last April and May. Troops had forcibly dispersed the demonstrators on May 19, prompting a spree of arson attacks and rioting that marked the country's worst violence in decades. More than 1,000 police were deployed to maintain security at Sunday's rally. The protesters planned to light candles and release thousands of balloons in memory of those killed during the clashes. The "red shirts" blame the government and the army for the deaths, which they say have not been properly investigated. The rally took place at the Ratchaprasong intersection outside Southeast Asia's second-biggest shopping mall, Central World, owned by Central Pattana. It was one of several malls and luxury hotels shuttered for weeks and was one of more than 30 commercial buildings set ablaze during last year's riot. http://ca.reuters.com/article/topNews/idCATRE7081RY20110109
