Just a brief report to get going. Flew Thai Airways as usual and arrived 20 minutes early (arrived 15:00), immigration was a breeze and only took about 15 minutes but could have been faster except for the idiot in front hadn't filled in his form and was doing it at the counter. Grabbed a sim card for the phone at the airport and slipped downstairs to grab a taxi, even handed the driver the Raya card with the map on it and he still didn't know where to go but eventually he got it when I started naming things close by and Soi Thaniya were the magic words. Traffic into the hotel was light (by Bangkok standards) and the journey was relatively quick, could have been quicker except for an accident on the freeway had reduced the flow to a crawl in one place and the traffic on Surawong was bumper to bumper. After checking into the hotel and a quick freshen up I went for a massage, wasn't feeling like too much play and just really wanted a massage to iron out the kinks. The original intention was to head over to The Prince but instead I called into Senso to check it out, chose a lad whom I shall refer to as R (turned out to be bottom but all cool), there were about 8 boys there at 17:30 and some good looking lads they were. Chose the 90 minute massage for 1490 baht, room was okay and had a double bed but the bathroom definitely needs a freshen up. R had good massage skills and the massage was a combination of deep and soft at times so I was very happy with that as it got all the kinks out of the muscles. He started work on my back rather than the legs which I didn't mind at all and another good thing was he didn't use too much oil. After turn over time he only did a bit of massage on the thighs and this was more to get me aroused than anything else, just a happy ending to finish off which was cool by me. Showered alone at start and together after, tip was 1500 baht (minimum tip for 90 minute massage there). Dropped into G's German restaurant on Soi 4 for a meal and a couple of beers then off to Foodland for a spot of shopping, by this time my ancient body was feeling a tad tired so back to the hotel for an early night. Here is an idea based on some experiences of some friends of mine, the so called Patpong ping pong shows are upstairs and are a trap. A couple of friends went up to see one once and got ripped off badly, they had to pay a lot of baht to get out of the place. Just tell them that it's a rip off run by crooks and the people will try to rip them off. If they really want to see the girly bars they must only go into the ones down stairs at street level.

Raya and Tarntawan have been popular here, I like the Raya and will be staying there again soon

About time too, I remember reading about the problems down there a good 10 years back and even then the the problem with raw sewage going out into the waters was a big problem and the hotels and resorts promised top stop it and clean it all up then.

I usually tip extra but if the service isn't up to standard then I just tip the minimum

Okay all booked now, decided to take the morning Thai airways flight and be damned with the traffic, also got the room booked at the Raya. Hopefully I should be at the hotel before 7pm and may just slip up soi Twilight for a massage and a shag.

Not so worried about bars, the other hassle for me on a morning flight I have to be awake at 3am and have a long drive to get to the city for the flight, I'm usually stuffed by the time I get to the hotel anyway.

The old notes shouldn't be a problem, the article that I read they said the old will remain in circulation and from what they were saying they will be for quite some time

Thanks guys, something to consider. Another problem with the morning flight that I didn't mention are the annoying screaming kids, I'm like a magnet to them and a friend that always takes the later flights says there are less than the morning flights.

Started looking at dates for my next sojourn to Bangkok, so far I have narrowed to 2 weeks somewhere between mid June to mid July, been there before around this time of year and like it then. Of course it will have to line up with room availability at the Raya hotel. Choice of flights on Thai air are a morning flight that arrives around 5pm with a bit of a queue at immigration and traffic into the hotel making the freeway look like a slow moving car park (my last 2 trips the traffic was horrendous). Or I can take an afternoon flight which gets in around 11pm (less traffic into hotel as well), now here I have a question for those that usually arrive around this time, what is the queue at Suvarnabhumi immigration like late night? Not that it matters too much but just like to put approximate arrival time on the hotel booking AND maybe catch a bit of fun (massage and afters) before sleep. Thanks in advance.
