From your experience, which of the nationalities speak the best English?

My ranking based on the guys I met:

1) Vietnam
2) Myanmar and Thailand (tie)
3) Laos
4) Cambodia

I agree most of the Viet guys I meet have some decent English ability. Especially the waiters at Freshboys.

Met quite a few guys from Myanmar working massage in Saphan Kwai who had limited English but those who worked in Patpong bars tended to be more conversational.

Depending on how long they've been working in bkk, I found that Lao and Thai guys had enough English to make themselves understood. Same I think for Cambodians.

strange , but based on my experience Cambodians are coming on top of the list and Myanmarese will be last

I should have specified the Myanmar guys who work Hot Male beer bar. 🙂

I thought the British speak the best English, but they are not even in the list

So I go for Vietnamese and Cambodians.

Slippery slope

All the Cambodian guys I met in Siem Reap spoke adequate English, whereas guys in Bangkok, whatever nationality, I find are not so fluent. I did fuck one Chinese boy I BKK, who spoke good English, found on Grindr.

These days Cambodians for me 100%

I remember visiting Siem Reap in 2004 and not a word of English could be found away from the hotels.

One generation later it's hard to find any Khmer who doesn't blabber away in English!

And to clarify. There are plenty of khmer boys who show up in Pattaya or BKK not speaking a word of English.  Ages months later they are full of chat. At the same time their local contemporaries are still on 'what your name'

The best English is spoken by the Scots, specifically in Inverness. 😁

My judgement is biased/incomplete by the fact that I spent time since Covid in Thailand and Cambodia, but not elsewhere, and speak more Thai than the average Thai speaks English.

Best English: Cambodia and Myanmar.

Can't judge: Vietnam and Lao.

Worst English: Thailand.

Those who come to Thailand for work are the most agile, both mentally and physically, of their country.

I had Thais refuse to meet me in Silom because it's to far from Sukhumvit (where they are).

Best English has always been spoken in Brooklyn.

The OP gave a limited list. But of course, if you include Philippines, all Pinoy I spoke with in person (in Thailand) or online chatting were fluent in English and would come 1st place.
