Recently tried a Bangkok restaurant known for combining Thai and Italian cuisines. The result was dishes that looked Italian but tasted like Thai. And the portions may have been small but you couldn’t  say that about the check.

 I love both cushiness but trying to get one to impersonate  the other I do not.

It happened to me with Banana Lotti desert and Thai traditional omelette I used to eat it before but not more it's freid with too much oil or melted margarine .

I grew up on the Japanese version of Italian food.

On my trip to Italy I was really looking forward to trying the real thing. I was very disappointed as the food was quite bland compared to the Japanese-style. My Italian "friend" here told me the originsl delicious food can be found only in the home, and preferably cooked by nonna.

Next time I go to Italy I think I'll take my own Dolmio sauce!

BTW, the Japanese Western-style food (called 'youshoku') is better than anything else I've eaten in any Western country, including France. Their beef stew is to die for!

I drank red label most of my time and somehow their red label taste so different and weird

Personally  I am not alcohol consumer at go go bars  I usually order Soda with lemon or orange juice but I can see the sense of buying whisky and mixers if you coming as a group to the bar of 2/3 people or more and want to spend couple of hours there .

In my slightly younger days, I found this was a wonderful way of breaking the ice, as it were, and being joined by a group of handsome dancers. @Olddaddy should try it. Great way to become a people person with cute guys.

another advantage is that if you have bottle opened next time you and 1-2 of your friends accompanied enter bar free , no need to bur a drink

That's right up there with my own favorite photo - a beauty salon that was on Pattaya Tai, just outside of Center Condo.  Unfortunately the shop disappeared years ago.

Rebottling cheap wine and spirits has been a time-honored scam world wide for years. It’s most profitable customers are the wealthy who can’t pass up a potential bargain. Even when they realize they were taken in by their own greed, they’re too proud and embarrassed to acknowledge it.

Another popular habit when China was developng its private sector in the 1990s and 2000s was to show off to friends how you had an unparalleled knowledge of wine. It was not uncommon to see groups of businessmen at dinner with a bottle or two of Chauteau Mouton Rothschild. Whether it was the hugely expensive real thing or rebottled and replaced with cheap plonk, I doubt if any of them knew. For it was a common habit to dilute the wine with coca cola!

And they've been having their payback ever since, flooding markets with fake/pirated copies of everything, lol

this discussion brings us to another point : are really all those brand name , luxuriously priced goods , drinks and foods really worth their price ?

Will really 200$ suitcase last 7 times longer than cheap 30$ one? Does that 500 $ whisky taste 10 time better than 50 $ one ? And even if we think it does it's because is really that better or because we know it's expensive one so subconsciously we grade her above the other ? 

After many years of trying, mostly for fun,  I must say my experience is somewhat mixed. I have brand shirt which after 30 years (yes , still fits) is not showing any sign of wear even in close inspection. But one I had even more expensive , so impressive that even guy who interviewed me for a job at the time commented how elegant she is ( I got the job , quitted after 3 months),is  long gone because started fraying on cuffs and collar quite fast .

So that coca-cola diluted cheap plonk may actually taste better than that expensive thing appreciated only by by those who either know it must be excellent because of price or nor brave enough to say loudly the truth. On another hand sometimes forking out few more dollars may result in exponentially better and /or longer experience. 

It's almost the same like with our boys where higher tip expected doesn't guarantee better experience (although in my opinion almost always guarantees better built or endowment or both) and it's up to us to assess whet we prefer -nicely packed sand bag or off the mill skinny but clingy his younger brother. I for one will go for packaging.

 

if you can't tell the difference between wine and coca-cola you should stick to the latter and save your money.
