Gradually some of the rivers are being uncovered. This link provides more info https://www.inyourpocket.com/lodz/Rivers-of-Lodz_70954f#google_v PeterRS 1 Quote

Do you really want be forced to call Germany Deutschland ? or Hungary Magyarorszag? Tell Slovaks to switch to Venezia from Benatky or Hungarians to start calling Pozsony Bratislava and you looking at dark blue around your eyes The Flemish/Dutch name for the French city of Lille is Rijsel. The Belgian city of Mons is called Bergen, and the city of Tournai is called Doornik. In Flanders, they'll at least put the French names in parentheses, but not the names of the Belgian cities in French-speaking areas. The only place one will find city names in both languages in Belgium is in Brussels proper: vinapu 1 Quote

PeterRS Posted May 14 Posted May 14 CNN has obviously seen @unicorn's post! There is an article on the website today illustrating how to pronounce some British place names - including at the end the name of that that massively long Welsh village (although I still defy anyone actually to pronounce it anything like correctly!!) https://edition.cnn.com/travel/commonly-mispronounced-british-place-names unicorn 1 Quote
caeron Posted May 20 Posted May 20 I remember when I first moved to Portland Oregon many years ago, I pronounced the Willamette river as anybody who knows a bit of French would. A kind employee explained to me that it was the "Will-am-it" and rhymed with "damn it". unicorn and vinapu 2 Quote
