I worked out to Sydney to Alice Springs .....is the same time equivalent of going from Sydney to Bangkok hence why I wouldn't waste my time

Really, Olddaddy, I have flown from Sydney to Bangkok. It takes 9 1/2 hours - roughly 6 hours longer than to Alice Springs.

Again that's funny in a sort of weird way. Do you have your own DC3 that requires refuelling? Because Qantas says the flight time is 3 hrs. 20 mins. Now that fits almost exactly with @Kiwi306's estimate of 3 hrs. 30 mins.

Australians have a habit of getting flight durations wrong, remember years ago pulling Jimmy Barnes of Cold Chisel up over the lyrics to Khe Sanh, their early 1980's Top-40 hit, where he wrote:-

Today it takes 09:40 hours. Jimmy's reply was "it rhymes better"!

how long is flight from Alice Springs to Chiang Mai ? I'm looking at direct flight with 1 refuelling stop max

Getting even more back to topic of Chiang Mai...If somebody was planning on travelling to Chiang Mai in the near future, he could do worse than to read Shamelessmack's record of his visit there last December.

He writes about it on his blog, https://shamelessmacktwo.travel.blog/

Open the blog and search for Chiang Mai. It will bring up four or five entries, covering his adventures in places such as Circle pub, Adam Club  and the Acqua Club massage.

He gives you quite a good idea of what you will get from the places.

 

 

I thoroughly enjoy reading shamelessmack's travel blog.  I did read all of the posts about Chiang Mai as well as many others.  Unfortunately, he hasn't updated his site since May and I haven't seen any posts by him on this site recently, either.  Hope he is ok.

To be fair to Mike’s taxi, unsafe drivers are everywhere. Thais have their own ways of calculating and managing risk and safety.

That was my one and only bad experience with Mike’s taxi. What put me off them was no response to the feedback I sent. That motivated me to look elsewhere….

So after years of using them, I decided it's time to let go. Stick mostly with Nam taxi & the bus nowadays.

Yes I gave Mike away too after their owners changed , 

Nam is the lady drivers , they were good too although they drive too slow
