Popular Post vinapu Posted September 17 Popular Post Posted September 17 On my last trip I tried this brand new hotel, yes name spells Hotei and can recommend it with whole heart. They are still working on the lobby so during day it was some construction but it should be over very soon. It's small place - just two rooms per floor but there's elevator. Located on corner of Narathiwas and Suriwong , steps from Amara and Red Planet. During day somebody should be on reception, if not there's clear instruction how to call somebody and they will show up in 5 minutes if not sooner. At night entry by card only, either from street side or from the back and it makes ideal place for those who price discretion. Sign says ' no overnight guests allowed" but how they police that is unclear. Nobody said the word when my gest was leaving around 11 am one morning. Rooms is quite big and despite facing street quiet enough to sleep comfortably. Only thing I would like to see is safety deposit box but one can't have everything I guess. Perhaps in future ? If you want your room cleaned you need to put sign outside, otherwise they don't bother but will hang a bag with 2 bottles of water, pack of napkins and roll of toilet paper on your know. I actually liked that system very much. Next door is hostel with restaurant where one can have a breakfast for 159 baht, plenty of food options in Silom market nearby. Bit of walk from Patpong bars an to BTS but nothing to make you or your boy tired. Two 7/11 within 2 minutes walk. Few pictures below: tm_nyc, TMax, emiel1981 and 7 others 10 Quote
jason1975 Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Spacious room. The sofa in front of bed is something only 5 star hotels have. Can accommodate more than 2 people in room for sleeping. But personally too far for me. I wouldn't want to walk that much back every night. I prefer 56 surawong, raya and ibis styles. Quote

I was lucky, one of boys I hosted there lives in condo nearby, another one has a motorbike so did not heard any complains Quote

Best value for hotel with pool in the area seems to be Trinity Silom but it's generation since I stay there last time Quote
10tazione Posted September 20 Posted September 20 The annoying thing with Trinity is that everything is in different buildings, you need voutures for everything and too many security barriers ... Butbpool is very nice and price is low. vinapu 1 Quote

I used to always stay at the Rose back in the early 2000s, and it was old even then! But it could still be an option for some, as it's close to the action and the pool is great. I wonder if those 3 women are still working there? I believe they were sisters. They were very accomodating regarding my visitors. On the odd occasion the guy did not have ID, they would interrogate him before deciding if I should take him to the room. If I returned to the hotel alone, they would ask : 'you don't have friend tonight?' Lol bkkmfj2648, floridarob, Gottab and 2 others 3 2 Quote

If you think that was old, my first stay there was in 1980! This is the pool in the old hotel with the excellent restauant Ruen Urai at the end. Now there is also The Rose Residence. Its entrance is on the left as you approach Ruen Urai. I believe The Residence also has its own roof top pool. Rates presently seem to be around US$100 - $110. vinapu 1 Quote
TMax Posted September 21 Posted September 21 I stayed at the Rose on my first Bangkok trip in 1988, the rooms were very basic but the restaurant downstairs served up some very nice food and the staff were very good and helpful. For me, I like the Raya but every time I go online to check on booking them it either says no rooms available (unless I book at least 6 months in advance) or the price is up a bit too high. I liked the Tarntawan of old but my last stay there the aircon was all screwed up, literally water coming out of it and all the maintenance staff did was to keep mopping it up plus the thermostat was stuffed and it was freezing cold as there was no way to adjust the temperature on it. I don't mind the Ibis at all, yes the rooms may be a bit small but then I'm not there to dance around a big room, it has a very basic gym which is OK and the pool is a positive for me and add to that the food and staff were good too. Location wise I also liked the Ibis, next trip (most likely second half of 2026) will either be Ibis or Tarntawan. floridarob and vinapu 2 Quote

Even by the early 1990s you could swim there with no buildings overlooking you. Now there are multi-storey apartment blocks on two of those sides, the hotel on the third and a soi on the fourth with tall buildings on its opposite side. I suspect most in-town hotel pools have buildings overlooking them unless they are riverside hotels or on roofs. (Oops, forgot! The Rose Hotel Residence pool is on the roof!!) Quote

forrestreid Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I stayed at the Rose Hotel just before Covid and really liked it. The rooms were a bit old-fashioned and (in the case of the cheaper one I booked), quite small. But the staff were friendly, the breakfast was good, and I especially enjoyed the large ground-floor pool surrounded by greenery. I remember swimming alone in it—it felt peaceful and secluded. Although it was overlooked you did not get that feeling. One thing I did not like was crossing Surawong Road to get to the bars in Patpong 2. Although the Rose Hotel is probably, as the crow flies, less than 50 metres from that strip of bars, crossing Surawong Road, just at that point where the lane meets it, was surprisingly difficult. I felt very nervous trying to cross—just as the cars passed in one direction, motorbikes would follow immediately behind, and before you could even react, traffic from the opposite direction was already coming. I sometimes waited five minutes just to find a safe gap. It might seem like a small detail, but that experience actually put me off booking the Rose again when I visited Bangkok last year. I ended up staying at Le Siam Hotel instead. (It is further away from the bars, across Silom Road, but you can cross Silom Road using the Skytrain station) TMax, vinapu, JimmyJoe and 1 other 4 Quote

jason1975 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 No choice but to cross Surawong Road if staying at Rose, 56 Surawong, Raya or Le Meridien. But there's a proper crossing just outside Patpong. Cars slow down for tourists to cross. TMax 1 Quote

You just wait for a small gap, and off you go. You can even wait in the middle. I find that the traffic is pretty forgiving. There are indeed a couple of marked crossing by Patpong, which make it slightly easier, if necessary. I also find it helpful to cross at the same time as a local, traffic even less likely to run you down! During the height of the rush hour traffic can be stationary, though, as mentioned, watch out for motorbikes. JimmyJoe, TMax, vinapu and 1 other 4 Quote
