56 Surawong vs The Tarntawan

These two hotels seem to come up the most. Im coming in two weeks and still have not booked. Seems like there is so many choices. Normally stay at the Quarter Silom, its the only hotel I have reference for but but they use some type or air freshener that sets off my asthma. I have to repeatedly ask them not to use that spray. Between Surawang and Tarntawan which do you guys prefer? I will not be bringing any guys to the hotel. I just need clean, comfortable and AC. I am a heavy sleeper so noise is not an issue for me.

I'm team tarntawan... make sure you check all the booking sites via Google, the prices, cancel policies, with breakfast or not can vary a lot.

Tarntawan for me, I haven't stayed there in a long time but at the moment it's looking like my hotel of choice for the next trip.

Between those two I'm for 56 Suriwong as it ticks my boxes better that Tarntawan, only this is lack of safety  deposit box in the room , one needs to rent one on reception.

I'm one of those who prefer NOT to have ID check of guests . Once at Tarntawan two forum members , both Asian looking visited me for a coffee in broad daylight and still had their ID checked and held until they left. I found it weird .

Over all Raya and Baan Silom are my favorites in the Silom ghetto .

I don’t know if I was just lucky but no ID check for my guy last night at Tarntawan

... and I like ID checks, keeps everyone in line... especially if you get a freelancer, someone free from the apps or DJ station guy.

Me too. It's for our own protection. Too many nefarious, scammer type about these days. Some guys from neighbouring countries may be using fake legit IDs. I'll explain what that's about later as I need to step out for a while.

could use a refresh though.

Cold AC, wifi, quiet, clean linens and towels, comfortable beds/pillows, location, nice staff and price ($50usd or less)

Yeah, if security or front desk are sleeping or fucking off, you can take them in without ID, which if it's a known person or bar guy I don't sweat it...but any unknowns, I look for the Reception person to take the ID.

It looks like there is a smoking option at Tarntawan. Due to asthma I can't book a room that has a possibility of being smoking. Can anyone confirm if they indeed have smoking rooms? It comes up on Agoda

I've always asked for a non smoking room and never had a room with a slightest smell of smoking.

Sign from Tarntawan elevator.  Smoking looks to be a thing of the pastIMG_1935.thumb.jpeg.4a6810e4d51e1b72931dd86a31361a58.jpeg

They have smoking rooms...I don't smoke, never had.... never noticed a smoke smell in my rooms, but with the clients they get, I could see them smoking in a non-smoking room.

Unfortunately I need to confirm what Rob says. On my last stay in Tarntawan , even if booked non-smoking room ( I quit smoking in grade 6 ) I was given room with clear smoking smell. It did not bother me as much but guy I brought in the evening was complaining loudly. Learned my lesson and ever since utilize other options in the area although if price was competitive I'd stay at Tarntawan due to location
