Bangkok trip report. Don't expect too much!

For 69k a month, I would expect a higher standard of accommodation.

And given that the photo's on booking dot com are quite deceptive, I stupidly assumed the deluxe suite sofa was too big to photograph!

'room service' here is a change of towels and bedding, pop in a new toilet roll, adding two small bottles of water to the fridge and checking to see if you drank the alcohol, then a wipe and dust and quick push with a floor mop. You can put up a do not disturb to avoid the intrusion.  The lady who usually does our room is very diligent and very sweet.

The apartment we have rented in Pattaya looks much nicer, a proper kitchen, balcony, washing machine, large sofa in the photos, large bed, added bonus, half the price of what we paid for the quarter.

Do we really need this sort of behaviour?

Thanks for sharing. That room looks like the one I stayed in a few weeks ago. I had originally booked one of the standard rooms but didn't realise how small it was so I upgraded the next day and I was happy with all the extra space. But then again, your stay was considerably longer than mine.

Your 'afternoon attraction' I have seen walking up and down soi 4 quite a few times. Never met him, only seen him in passing but good to know he is a nice guy.

He couldn't be nicer. He does prefer not to f***k.

He's polite and not demanding. We've seen him in soi 4 and central mall.

He's quite local to this corner of silom.

You can speak quite freely with him about your desires.

Even after we said we wouldn't meet again he was still friendly toward us in soi 4

Thanks for sharing your experiences, @durian I agree that being near to Lumpini Park has its pros. I enjoyed taking walks there when I stayed at Bandara which is opposite Quarter Saladeang.

Did you and your partner visit the bars and watch the shows?

I have personally noticed some guys at urinals standing for some time inside the toilets at Silom Complex. I went in to take a pee when I was shopping.

I hope you enjoy your time in Pattaya.

Great report! Nice with a longer term perspective on staying in Bangkok as that is something I am considering in a hopefully not too distant future.

I recently stayed in The Quarter Saladaeng and got upgraded to a studio apartment. I would be happy to stay here for a month, as it had kitchen, lounge area with sofa and also a small desk.

I do agree that it is not a proper 4 star experience. The lack of attention to details in the fitting of TV and showers is a good example of this.

I also agree that the breakfast is not worth 300 baht. In my rate, the additional cost for breakfast was only around 100 baht, so I was ok with it. Egg station and fresh fruit with yoghurt is what I usually go for, but unless I get a good deal, I tend to not go for hotel breakfast at all.

I also agree that the hotel staff is excellent.

Perhaps it is my Nordic blood, but I found the pool temperature just right :) Also, for a hotel gym, I think the one in Quarter Saladaeng is not bad at all.

I have also tried The Quarter Chaophraya. This place is much more aligned with what I expect from 4 stars. Better pool, a lot better breakfast, and room decor that doesn't lack attention to detail.

I hope you enjoy your stay in Pattaya.

That's my room I had last October!!!

Nothing wrong with it for 1800 baht a night including pool sauna gym

I aways use the Hilton at the river end of Silom Road. Costs last year were around 2300 per night for a King Deluxe High Floor room, so with Hilton loyalty status, I always get upgraded to a suite.

2 bathrooms, couch, double aspect view of the Bangkok skyline and river (a glimpse anyway), a bath, 4m² shower; so plenty of room for sharing, 2 TV's, mini fridge, free unlimited drinking water plus the usual Tea/coffee. Hotel has pool, gym, saunas (M&F) as well as a dedicated breakfast room.

Sorry gentlemen, but for the price of a boy drink, this to me is a better option. Okay, it's a 20 minute sobering-up walk from Soi 4, or 200THB in a Tuk-Tuk, 70 in a Bolt Taxi or 40 on a suicide bike.

Hotel due to start a major refurbishment project in April, after which prices will rise, but expect some decent deals whilst the works are carried out.

The park is a real attraction for us. Cats and men in shorts.

In malaysia we rescue stray cats that live on our estate, heartbreaking at times but highly rewarding.

There's not enough hours in the day for us and cats.

Men in shorts by the dozen, what's not to like when you have a shorts and leg fetish.....

The only bar we have been to is Infinity on soi4. We like it there. We have been five times in the month.

We like going to one place so we become known and feel more 'at home'

I've always wanted to watch a show but we find the bars a bit loud, perhaps in pattaya we can see a show.

We will certainly be doing some sauna crusing.... we were going to sauna here in bkk but looking at the saunas we felt there were too many stairs for hubby and still unsure which was best for us to visit.

We have a friend in pattaya so hopefully we can get some sound advice for our month there.

I should have added that cruising at central silom mall.

I suggested nothing happened inside the mens room, and of course you are right, there is a fair bit of suggestive eye contact and patient waiting at a washbasin or urinal to see if an advance is incoming, so in that sense yes, action. I was going to put a reply to that effect but this will cover it.

My only concern would be later in the afternoon there is the possibility of being very aware many younger people leaving school are around so one's behaviour should be appropriate at that time of day.

We were at the baked rice place on the second floor opposite the lifts, with a clear view, we noticed a couple of people going round in circles pretending to look busy, that was 6pm

We were at Terminal 21 yesterday and couldn't help but notice some lads spending extended time at the handbasin, in front of the large mirrors, which gave a direct reflection of the urinals.... doesn't take long to work that out....

YOU GOT A COMFY CHAIR TOO !

As Terry Gilliam said to Graham Chapman in Life of Brian: "You Lucky Lucky B*stard"

I also agree that the breakfast is not worth 300 baht.  YUP....

I also agree that the hotel staff is excellent. Really excellent, kind and very helpful, a credit to the country.

I hope you enjoy your stay in Pattaya. So do I, Thank You.
