brall3 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 At the airport where is a good money exchange store to exchange A SMALL AMOUNT of money to hold one over until arriving in the city itself? Quote
Popular Post zoomomancs Posted April 25 Popular Post Posted April 25 Go downstairs to the skytrain level. Walk to the left of the skytrain office where we buy tickets. On your right are some change booths which give a better rate than all the upstairs change places at bkk. When I was there earlier this month the rate there wasn't that far below the best in the city. Farmos, FFbtm1974, Londoner and 2 others 5 Quote

The reason why these booths offer best rates is because they are not "in the airport" but they are technically in samut prakan, the province surrounding the airport. so if you want to change money at the airport always go there. it is like 10% better rate than at the other airport levels. vinapu and Travelingguy 2 Quote
ChristianPFC Posted Thursday at 04:17 PM Posted Thursday at 04:17 PM Suvarnabhumi airport is in Samut Prakarn province. While airside allows entry and change of airplane without visa or immigration, and has different laws for customs and taxes, the banks are all landside. I guess it has nothing to do with Samut Prakarn province, rate in the airport are just like that (poor compared to elsewhere), because the banks there form a cartel. You could argue that those banks are inside the airport, whereas those at the ARL are inside the ARL station. But the operators are different as well, as far as I observed. Quote
vinapu Posted Thursday at 04:37 PM Posted Thursday at 04:37 PM whatever are reason , it's great that we have better rate option achievable at the airport with little effort. As for rates inside airport that are worse indeed but compared to many airports in the world, difference between airport and city rates is not that dramatic. As for uniform rate they offer it may be cartel arrangement but also it may be requirement of the term of lease. Quote

jimmie50 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Is the exchange rate at the various SuperRich locations in Silom the same? Or is each location slightly different? I would think they would be the same, but you never know...which is why I ask the question. Quote
Members daydreamer Posted 10 hours ago Members Posted 10 hours ago As you may know, there are two different SuperRich money exchange companies in Bangkok. One has a green sign, and the other is orange. Both the orange and the green are called SuperRich on their signage. Both companies originated from the same family, and now both of them have many branches. Yes, the exchange rates vary slightly from branch to branch, depending on location. The exchange rates for each branch can be found in drop-down menus on their websites. The best exchange rates are at their Ratchadamri main shops and are sometimes matched at various branches. The difference in most of the branches is minimal, unless you have a large amount to exchange. Both the green and orange have their head offices on Ratchadamri Soi 1, very close to Big C Ratchadamri. The photo below shows the two headquarters, directly across the soi from one another. https://www.superrich1965.com/en https://www.superrichthailand.com/#!/en jimmie50, vinapu and jamiebee 2 1 Quote

hank75 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago There is also SuperRich Turtle (operated by SuperRich orange) which is conveniently located in some BTS stations including Sala Daeng. Good for changing under 10-15k but for higher amounts I prefer the SuperRich inside Central Park or X-One as recommended by @vinapu daydreamer and jimmie50 2 Quote

I actually had no idea there were two different companies with the same name. I used the SuperRich located in the lower level of the new Central Park Mall, but do not recall if the sign was green or orange. Not something I really knew to pay attention to until now. I also assumed SuperRich was all one company so the exchange rate would be the same at all locations. Sounds like I need to shop around a little before exchanging currency in the future. Quote

That one is orange and usually the recommended one. But honestly the difference between green and orange is so minimal that convenience takes priority. As far as I am aware, there isn’t a green outlet located anywhere near the bar district so the best choices are either Central Park or X-One depending which side of Patpong you’re on. Or as @spoon mentions, if you have time to go to Silom Plaza. Myself, I don’t enjoy the long walk in the heat because any savings will immediately be spent on a cold beer to recover. jimmie50 1 Quote
spoon Posted 26 minutes ago Posted 26 minutes ago X-one has been my choice for a while now, as they are usually offer slightly better rate, and less queue. Only reason i would go to silom plaza one is if i stay at pullman or furama. Quote
