Yes, another gem used in such situations is "He's (or she's) in a better place".  Really?  I'd sure as hell rather be alive than stuffed in a box and be put on public view.  I can't think of many worse places to be than inside a casket.

Vampires view caskets as very Welcoming places......   A worse place to be is ANYWHERE Trump is !

...you FOOL...

Not that I agree with everything that @Suckrates says, but it would be nice to be less personal and in-your-face. It's one thing to say "...you talk like a fool..."  or "you're arguing like a fool," and another to accuse someone of being a fool. I think it's also part of the TOS.

A small semantical distinction.....  In the end, a fool is a fool, and it encompasses how they act AND how they speak.  Any attempt to soften a reply to a comment you deem "foolish" or suppress your opinion of that person would be "disingenuous".   Calling a person a fool is simply YOUR own opinion of that person and nothing more, and until Trump takes our right to free speech away,  I subscribe to "honesty is the best policy".  Saying "you talk like a fool" and calling someone a fool are distinctively DIFFERENT reactions, so substitution isnt always right in a  situation.

And BTW Uni, I would NEVER expect you to agree with everything I say.  Wouldnt that be unrealistic and unnatural ?

It's more than a semantical distinction. One can have differences of opinion, even major ones, without resorting to name calling. There are plenty of posters on this forum who I think often argue like fools, but I would never call them a fool (even if I think it likely they are). There is one person on the board whom I have no problem calling a liar, but that is a statement of fact, not an opinion. By definition, "A liar is a person who deliberately tells falsehoods or misleads others with the intention to deceive." When a poster willfully makes false statements with the intent to deceive, he's lying, by definition. This poster does it habitually (and has been proven to do so multiple times), so he simply is a liar by definition. Many people say stupid things, or certainly things I consider stupid. They make argue foolishly, but one has to know a lot about a person's life to brand someone a fool, which is a judgment call.

Which is exactly what you are making Now.....   How about just letting people be who they are and act the way they want, as long as its within the law.   I am guilty of judging when I called the poster a fool, and you are guilty of judging when you question MY behavior which doesnt comport with yours. We ALL are guilty, so lets just call it a draw ?

Well, if we're talking about this board, it's probably breaking the rules of this board, by attacking the person rather than the argument. In terms of legal statutes, blanket statements about a person's character might be defined as defamatory/slanderous. Attacking a person's arguments couldn't be labeled slanderous, but labeling a person might be. I suppose it's probably OK to say "I believe you're a fool," but not "you're a fool." Can you see the difference?

NO, I dont see the difference, other than one is more definative, but we are NOT trying a case here.   People call each other names all the time as easily as they breath.

The dictator of the USA has made a habit of it, and normalized uncivil discourse.  If you dont like the direction, take a different road.  You are free to do so...  but the biggest problem in todays society are people (other that bodies of law) believing THEY can tell others how to live their lives....

I have always been the girl that believes in "you do YOU boo, and let me do Me"......   I may JUDGE you for being You, but I will never deny your right TO BE...

WHERE are the "Happy GAY Pride Month" wishes ?

Seems EVERYONE have lost a sense of civility and Unity ?

Well, TODAY is official Gay Pride Day in NYC,  so to all the members of OUR community HAPPY PRIDE DAY....  Many towns across America have CANCELLED Pride Month and Pride Day because of pressure from Trumps WH....  We in NYC are still lucky and blessed to still have the freedom to Celebrate.  Our fight must continue against THIS government....

AND, we should point out the HUGE crowds attending the NYC Pride Celebration as compared to the EMPTINESS  at Trumps America 250 State Fair .   even Patriotism and Pride in America couldnt get people to attend his partisan, RACIST event, that he unsuprisingly made ALL ABOUT HIM !

Everything Trump touches or is involved in turns to a Golden pile of SHIT.....   and people are clearly LOSING INTEREST.

Gay pride in my birth city is in August so in my opinion it's a little bit early to wish a "Happy Gay Pride Month".

Thank you for your honest reply Thomas, BUT Gay Pride is not only about YOU....  You are participating on a site with scores of Gay people from all over the World,  many of whom celebrate on designated days EARLIER then yours....  But you have demonstrated one important thing about the worlds "consciousness" in these Trumpian times....EVERYONE thinks of themselves and not others.   As stated, you will only give Pride wishes to those that celebrate in YOUR timeframe....   Do other GAY people not count to you ?   It's interesting, and I am thankful that you were honest in your reply...  The insight is priceless..... A MAGA Trump administration has given the World license to be SELFISH and self-interested.

But, I will be EARLY and wish those in your part of the world Happy upcoming Pride, although my previous wishes extended to EVERYONE celebrating their Pride wherever and whenever it is.   .   :3249_gayhearteyes:

Speak for yourself. No need to berate @Thomas_88. He was just pointing out that not all countries share the same Pride Month--not trying to negate your good wishes.

Uni, STOP stirring the pot,  there was no BERATING done,  merely pointing out a point Thomas may not have been aware of.   You do it all the time, but you usually do it with an air of "superiority".    Sometimes people need to be taught self-awareness.

What Thomas actually said was that there wasnt need for good wishes because HE wasnt celebrating yet, and there was no need for YOU to speak for what he was saying.

If all you heard was that Pride is celebrated at diff times in diff places,  then you might have a similar problem as his ?

My point was that in todays culture it seems people have become LESS caring and considerate of others.   If you dont agree, that's FINE !   Your perogative.

Yes, there was.

No, that wasn't what he said.

Look in the mirror. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I feel a song coming on.

"Happy GAY Pride Month"

Nice rainbow fireworks display last night presented by IconSiam in celebration of Pride in Bangkok!  We didn't know about it in advance, but could actually see some of the display from our condo window.  Imagine it was quite spectacular in person with the reflection of the sparklers in the river in addition to the sky.
