There was very heavy rain in Pattaya last night and some of the roads were flooded. I've seen some of the pictures but can't share them because I haven't got clearance from the boys. It was bad (but not devastating) and apparently some of the boys in Jomtien Complex couldn't get home. I hope everyone got home safe eventually.

I recall seeing fisherman in Boyztown one September; they caught two fish outside Funny Boys. Meanwhile, in Pattaya Tai, the market vendors were standing up to their knees in muddy water; nothing will stop a Pattaya tradesman/woman. When I arrived back in the hotel with tiny bite-marks covering my legs. Take care!

Keithamrose is complaining about bad weather in Siem Reap as well , I guess that's the risk of travelling in area's rainiest month.

Yes, I knew it was rainy season, its just that a good ticket was available. So far, there are dry intervals between the rain.

I just returned to Pattaya (Jomtien) after 4 days over in Bangkok (Philippine Embassy stuff).

Many people were complaining about the intermittent rain in Bangkok - but it was no where near as severe as the torrential downpours that Pattaya has been experiencing - including today.

When I booked my Bkk trip for the first week of October, I thought the rainy season was over by then! Now I'm thinking I better pack a rain jacket!

In my ninety-plus visits to Thailand, I've had morning activities spoilt, afternoon ones and evening ones....but never a whole day. Even in Krabi. Don't worry.

@pylonguy71 Londoner is right - during the typical monsoon season here in Pattaya - there are breaks in the rain throughout the day.

The good news is that our current monsoon madness should subside by 28 September - which is good news for your first week of October arrival.

it must be raining bad as this morning I got a clip for one of my boys showing submerged street. No , no financial assistance request for new towel or something was attached

My partner in the north was telling me today that recent heavy rains, at least in that region, have been at night; ideal for farmers. Of course, all decent people are asleep in bed at that time so nothing to worry about for anyone on this board!

easy to buy at 7/11 , they carry umbrella too, some hotels , not even necessarily multi star , have umbrellas on reception guest can use. In short - travel light

Today I got cabin fever (too many consecutive days of monsoon storms), so I decided to have a late lunch over at Tinnies.
Left VT5 via Dongtan Beach and the rain was tolerable but the gale force winds were too strong.
As I turned into the short cut that is in-between VT7 + Casa Myka - 7-11, the winds were super fierce and snapped my umbrella in half.
So, I continued forward without the umbrella and made it to Tinnies soaking wet.
Ate an excellent lunch and then I asked my favorite waitresses where can I buy a STRONG umbrella and they sent me directly across the street where I bought one of those large umbrellas that are very strong. All was ok on Thappraya road until I reached Jomtien Beach where the winds were too strong even for this new more powerful umbrella - so I shut it and just braved my walk (I had a rain weather parka on) to the Jomtien Night Market - soi 9 as I wanted to see the actual stranded and sinking "Dolce Vita" tour boat.

What a sight to see - as the waves were crashing through the lower deck windows and it was listing on its side.
On the upper floor there appeared to still be a person aboard who was just sitting in the middle deck - perhaps to watch the ship ??
I felt sorry for him but he seemed to be ok as the ship was now so close to the shore that it was not going to sink any further.
All of the life jackets that had floated away from the ship were already collected into a big pile near the Jomtien Beach footpath.
There were also other objects that came off the ship - 2 water slides and some parts from the siding of the ship.

When I lived in Italy and the Costa Concordia cruise liner sunk off the coast of Giglio island in Tuscany in January 2012 - as soon as I could get free time from my job - I drove up from Rome and took the ferry over to Giglio island so that I could observe the partially sunken cruise ship before they towed it away for salvage.

I packed an ultra lightweight, breathable rain jacket, only worn it twice. Meridien has very good solid umbrellas. Indeed they charge you if you lose it, which I am wont to do!

If you were in Pattaya right now - you would need to anchor yourself down as the visibility just dropped to the bare minimum due to the intense monsoon rain and gale force winds currently underway.

Hopefully the situation over there in the Silom area is much better ?

I hear this is the time of year when the Pattaya Flying Club does its full dress rehearsals for the holiday season when susceptible folks are at their most vulnerable.

It's all very sad and I wish there is a better way for them to manage their mental health other than drink, run or jump.

Interesting, the local news regarding new PFC entrants has been eerily quiet lately.

After 4 years here - I have noticed that it tends to increase during the high season period - and now we are in the lowest of the low season cycle.
