good news are piling up

A few heavy showers this evening, that's all.

Just taken the 14:00 North Pattaya bus upto Ekkamai, only took 2 hours, so a normal run. Did notice numerous cones on the motorway ring-fencing areas of loose tarmac from the recent floods.

Traffic levels same as an early Sunday morning. Bolt to Hilton Silom, only had to wait 1 minute. Journey time only 20 minutes, last time was 90 minutes!

Don't know what all the fuss was about.

I guess that's the risk of travelling in area's rainiest month.

I remember someone telling you about September and you said ....I don't remember what you said, but that it wasn't important.....I avoid the 2nd half of Sept always.

First 3 weeks of December have always been my favorite, they used to invite me to King Rama IX birthday Dec 5 every year, I was born in the same hospital as him 😎

On merit , I was once in September , two weeks in the middle back in 2017 and weather was much better that I expected and was primed for by comments here. On another hand I recall gettind messages that I got lucky because right after I left rains become much more substantial

In Thailand? If it's because the weather is lovely at that time of the year and things are lively enough without the Christmas and New Year madness, I agree.

Some board members will have a record of 15 nights confinement, thanks to covid quarantine.

Images of flooded streets in Bangkok/Thailand, keep popping up in my (news) feed. Does anyone have firsthand updates? What is the situation like in Bangkok and Pattaya right now? And how bad is the damage? I read just today that another spell of heavy rainfall is expected.

As reported on another thread, centre of Bangkok was unaffected. On Tuesday, sat by river having a beer, in sunshine. No heavy rain up north, so river not at high levels. As can be seen, however some areas, apparently in East Bangkok were badly affected.

Bangkok consists of 50 distinct districts.

I believe that most forum members visit the Sala Daeng / Silom areas which reside in the Bang Rak and Pathum Wan districts.

You can see from the below flood map, that Bang Rak (#26) sits in a moderate flood area and Pathum Wan (#15) sits in both a moderate and high flood area. Of note is also district #28 - Sathorn - which also sits in a moderate flood area.

Regarding the second part of @emiel1981 question the Thai Meteorological Department recently released the below rain forecast for the next couple of days where it seems that rain is expected for the Bangkok area tomorrow and Monday 6 October - but Bangkok and Pattaya are coded in the yellow color - so it is not forecasted to be a deluge like what we experienced previously.

The situation right now (10:39 am) today in Jomtien is that it is sunny and pleasant outside - but off in the horizon I see big clouds starting to form - and this was the same scenario that we had yesterday - beautiful morning, then storm clouds rolled in and it rained - but nowhere as intense as last week and then it stopped and all was normal for the evening going out time.

@jason1975 is now in BKK so perhaps he can give @emiel1981 an on-the-ground weather update for Bangkok :>))

I am in Bangkok from only Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. No rain throughout but cloudy.

Jason left in the morning but old trusted Vinapu happily reports that as of now Sunday, Oct 4 at 2 pm Silom is basking in the sun. Air quite steamy though and few minutes ago there was some noise from heavens above so perhaps some storm is brewing but definitely area is dry and far from being under water. So was airport yesterday at early afternoon.

Visit to 7/11 though showed that there were tougch days recently as shelves in some sections were quite empty and they started restocking only now

I'm Glad you stayed away especially end of Sept....because I've been known to say "I told you so" 😁
