I'm kind of wondering if others beside myself count calories on a daily basis? Or nearly? Anyone have a goal as to calories? Me. I try to stay under 2000, closer to 1500-1700 on days when I am not doing much active stuff. Other days go up when I'm very busy away from the house and then there are the binge days.

The Truth About Calories By Clint Carter, Men's HealthThu, Jun 02, 2011 You can't go anywhere without being confronted by calories. Restaurants now print calorie counts on menus. You go to the supermarket and there they are, stamped on every box and bottle. You hop on the treadmill and watch your "calories burned" click upward. But just what are calories? The more calories we take in, the more flab we add—and if we cut back on them, then flab starts to recede too, right? After all, at face value, calories seem to be the factor by which all foods should be judged. But if that were true, 500 calories of parsnips would equal 500 calories of Double Stuf Oreos. Not quite…

Short URL: http://con.st/10017193 it's just corn sugar Study: HFCS Leads To Much More Weight Gain In Rats Than Sugar By Ben Popken on March 28, 2011 3:00 PM (Princeton University) A study from Princeton published in the February issue of the journal Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behavior (PDF) shows that high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), used as a cheap sweetener in everything from Coke to Progresso soup, is not the same as table sugar, namely for the way that it makes you gain 48% more weight. We wrote about this a year ago, after the study was first completed. Over 6 months, one group of rats was fed rat chow sweetened with HFCS and another just regular rat chow…

Something health related that I haven't seen addressed yet in these types of forums: Isn't it time to start shaming the gay related bloggers who promote stealthing stories and fantasies and give tips on how to stealth guys? The worst offender of this is RawTop and his "Breeding Zone" section which actually has stories about dudes who work in gay bars microwaving the condoms the bar gives out so that they will break, detailed directions on how to ensure the top's condom will rip without the bottom knowing and suggestions about how to find married guys to do this too so they'll bring the bug back to their wives. One of the stories is actually called "Pozzing The Rent Bo…

Just returned from a Doctors visit and my 3 month sugar average went through the roof. If I do not bring it down with diet and medicine he might have to start me on insulin. Ironically I do not eat many sweet foods but the past few months I had been doing so. I realize that being type 2 diabetic goes beyond staying away form sugar .... so I am trying to once again kick start a weight loss program. I even went food shopping today something I have not done in months. Here I go again

Just curious how everyone who is dieting did over the holidays? I worked very hard on diet and gym last week prior to the weekend. I never actually went wild, considering there were 30 dozen cookies out on the porch, and enjoyed whatever I wanted for the weekend. This morning was weekly weigh in and I actually lost 3 pounds so couldn't be happier. So how did everyone else do???

Their world had been rocked, and the questions came fast and furious: A 31-year-old teacher from Midtown Manhattan who had barely touched a banana in six years wanted to know if she could really consume them with impunity. A small-business owner from TriBeCa wondered whether she was being nudged to part with that second (or third) glass of wine. And a woman with silky brown hair, on her way out the door after a Weight Watchers meeting in the basement of a Park Avenue South office building, had a particularly urgent need. They and others had been searching for answers and grappling with their implications since Sunday, when Weight Watchers began unveiling its first major …

Well today I begin ... thanks to you guys for all the awesome suggestions in my other thread. In the past I would say that I'm starting diet number 898,099,116 but instead I decided to just call it the start of some major lifestyle changes for me My immediate goal is to lose 60 pounds by the end of the year. Considering my size this should be very realistic. Then my next goal is to lose 60 more by my birthday that is in mid-April. Again I feel that is a realistic target as well. I know I health wise I am pushing the odds ... and playing poker all these years has taught me a lot about odds. So its truly time for me to get serious if I wanna hang around for a while .. an…

Just found this forum and am enjoying the posts. But, I have a question for some of the "pros" here. I recently started a weight loss program with a nutritionist at my doctor's office. I completed a one week clear liquid diet and am not almost finished by a semi-liquid diet phase. The next phase will be soft foods and they want me to minimize (hopefully eliminate) all carbs and increase my protein in-take. (FYI, I've already had to give up coffee, non-herbal teas, soda, alcohol, starches, etc.) In this phase they want me to get away from drinking my meals / protein and increase foods with high protein. A co-worker suggested that I start using TVP. Is this a better sour…

I just got back from a month long trip, during which I ate some unhealthy food and no Optifast. Much to my surprise I weigh 10.3 pounds less than I did when I left! I did a fair amount of walking, and tried to eat healthy for the most part. Splurged occasionally, but on the other hand if I wasn't loving something I stopped eating it. Something of the Eat this, not that model (being aware of calories and especially fat/saturated fat in foods). I ate plenty of fruits/vegetables. Started each morning with cereal or oatmeal or eggs and grits and tried to eat something every 3-4 hours. Most places have some healthy options on the menu now, but they often have problems…

This is a recipe I've used for a while. It's not mine, but I can't remember where I got it. I figured that there are a number of guys here on diets that might need an ok sweet snack if they get really bad cravings. Each of these bars has about 100 calories. Ingredients: • 1/4 cup butter-flavored vegetable shortening, such as Crisco Butter Flavor • 1/2 cup light brown sugar • 1 large egg (may use 1/4 cup egg substitute instead) • 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 3/4 teaspoon sugar (you can substitute Stevia or another no-cal sweetener) • 3/4 cup flour • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda • 1/4 teaspoon salt • 1/4 teaspoon freshly …

I am absolutely the worse when it comes to even trying to eat healthy. I have lost a huge amount of weight twice in my life. Once in the mid nineties. I went from 380 pounds to 220 pounds ... on my own plan. Basically everything was very low fat. I was doing the Subway thing long before Jarred .. had I known there would have been such a huge payoff I would have stuck with it It took about 8 months to lose the weight and I kept it off for less than half that amount of time. Someone very important to me had died and I used it as an excuse to eat away Then I lost a decent amount of weight in 2005 right after I moved from Las Vegas to Dallas. I went from 410 pounds to 2…

Day 1: Monday Oct 18 I started a new diet today. Well, it is not really a diet as much as a way to track my weight loss progress. I don't like typical diets and never did really well with them. What I did well with was eating a balance of protein and carbs consistently throughout the day while eating little sugar. I would say it is kind of a zone approach. I'll try to eat 5 small meals per day. I'll also try to do exercise of some sort every day. I have a program called Perfect Diet Tracker. It keeps track of my calories for me and tells me where I stand each day on my goals. I will limit myself to 2100 calories per day. If I eat more, then I need to exercise …

A group of us did this once. We sat around all night before a 4th of July slurping beers, gossiping and generally having a jolly ole time. It's a wonderful way of spending a holiday with friends and the results are every bit as delicious as this article describes. The best thing about this method is that it doesn't require any special cooking skills. Just be sure to keep the heat from the coals low to keep from charing the outside. The rest pretty much takes care of itself. ultimate holiday BBQ

Hey Guys, When I say I do not cook at home I am not joking. While I do have nice cookware I do not have anything else like pantry type stuff one needs to cook with. I am planning on starting a few lifestyle changes this weekend ... one obviously related to my diet. I know there are really knowledgeable people here so I am asking for suggestions on the basic items I should buy to be able to cook some pretty basic meals for myself. I guess I mean things like spices or flour or oil or whatever you think I should have on hand. At my old age I never have bought much pantry type stuff aside from salt & pepper which I know is pretty pathetic to say but its true With th…

One thing that I am sure helped me lose weight both times was I made it a point to walk just 15 minutes a night every night even in the rain. In fact the first time I lost the large amount of weight I actually enjoyed my nightly walks and would stretch them out to 30 minutes or more. It was for me a reasonable amount of exercise since prior the most walking I would do was to my car. Have others here who are or had been changing their eating habits used exercise to help reduce the weight?
