Dept. of Careful Where You Surf in the Village Voice online... Pho Sure 120 Christopher St., New York, NY 10014 (212) 929-0811 The pleasure of a bowl of pho is principally in the broth, which should be aromatic and round, a brew made of beef bones, sweet charred ginger, star anise, and cloves. The pho at Pho Sure—a jokey name predicated on a mispronunciation of the soup, which is actually pronounced "fuh"—wins more than half the battle with its properly beefy, flavorful broth. The restaurant makes three versions of the soup, but the notable addition to the pho genre this year is the mo pho, a steaming bowl replete with beef tendon, tongue, and penis, which looks disconc…

  2. About 30 percent of heart attacks, strokes and deaths from heart disease can be prevented in people at high risk if they switch to a Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil, nuts, beans, fish, fruits and vegetables, and even drink wine with meals, a large and rigorous new study has found. The findings, published on The New England Journal of Medicines Web site on Monday, were based on the first major clinical trial to measure the diets effect on heart risks. The magnitude of the diets benefits startled experts. The study ended early, after almost five years, because the results were so clear it was considered unethical to continue. The diet helped those following it even…

Remember Nathan Lucas, the shirtless hunk that taught us how to put icing on a cake a while back? Well, just in time for Valentine's Day, he's here to help us make a frozen treat, and lucky for us, it requires a lot of shaking. Remember the harder you pump, the stiffer the cream will be. . .

I made this today and it was great. 1 cup frozen organic raspberries 1 tbsp coconut oil 1 Tbsp chia seeds 2 scoops protein powder (I used Teras whey Acai flavor. delicious!) 2 scoops Standard Process complete powder (your nutritional insurance) ½ of a fresh squeezed lime small handful fresh mint or parsley water to liquify (I used citrus-infused water from my pitcher) Add ingredients to blender in order listed. Blend until smooth. Feel free to add more or less water depending on consistency you like. This makes 2 servings so you can pour half in a glass and the other store in fridge for later. http://nutritiousyogi.com/my-favorite-meals/2013/1/30/ras…

The Facts About Low-Impact Training When it comes to working out, people spend a lot of time talking about high-impact training. This makes some sense – we live in a culture that wants to get the most bang for their buck. People see high-impact training as a short cut to losing weight and getting a ripped body that people will notice. So, they often dismiss low-impact training as something that's not for them because it might not deliver the results they want as quickly as they want. But, the truth is that low-impact training can be just as important, if not more so, than high-impact training. And, high-impact training isn't appropriate for a lot of people. It can be d…

The Healthiest Veggies Getting healthy and losing weight is an important part of most of our lives. We want to look and feel our best. We know that eating right and exercising are an important part of that process. The problem is that we never learn exactly what we need to do to stay healthy. It's one thing to tell people to “eat healthy and exercise.” But that won't help people if they don't know how to do it! And let's face it - nobody teaches us in school how to really be healthy. We just have to try to figure it out on our own. But the bottom line is that what you eat can have a huge effect on your overall health and your weight. Our experts were quick to point ou…

I did so well on a program I was on but the past three months have been a disaster. I simply cannot get restarted and I've easily put back on all the weight I've lost, once again. Very very very depressing ... its like being a drug addict maybe worse cause your body needs some food whereas u don't need that hit of speed or piece of crack.

The ranks of obese Americans are expected to swell even further in the coming years, rising from 36% of the adult population today to 42% by 2030, experts said Monday. Kicking off a government-led conference on the public health ramifications of all those expanding waistlines, the authors of a new report estimated that the cost of treating those additional obese people for diabetes, heart disease and other medical conditions would add up to nearly $550 billion over the next two decades. The sobering projections also contained some good news, the researchers said: Obesity's growth has slowed from the record pace of most of the last 30 years. If those trends were to conti…

Well now that I have entered the mainstream world of work ... and moving around a bit more ... I can really feel my size weighing me down So I guess its really time for another change ... in diet once again. Headed down the lower carb path as it seems to work best for me at this stage. However, this time I am gonna try not to think about it for 30 days just do it. Maybe if I do not focus on the "diet" it will be easier to follow it. Time to start me up

Just "discovered" that you can eat at Panda Express, and get a two entree combo, and still consume under 500 calories.. Pick the steamed veggies for the side, and mushroom chicken and string bean chicken for the two entrees. It comes to 410 calories. Even if you eat the included fortune cookie (32 calories), you are still under 500 calories for a filling and reasonably healthy meal.

  17. How to Make Perfect McDonald’s-style French Fries at Home By Sarah B. Weir, Yahoo! blogger | Shine Food Even food snobs who shun McDonald's have to admit that they serve the mother of all French fries. Ray Kroc, one of the chain's founders wrote in his autobiography that the fry was "almost sacrosanct for me. Its preparation a ritual to be followed religiously." The end result is a crispy golden-brown baton showered with just the right amount of salt. The exterior's initial crunch yields to a tender and steaming white center. More, please? "They are consistent," says David Myers, chef/owner of Comme Ca in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. "I can't imagine how many millions of…

http://www.edgenewengland.com/style/food_drink//130119/inhalable_caffeine_to_be_reviewed_by_fda U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials plan to investigate whether inhalable caffeine sold in lipstick-sized canisters is safe for consumers and if its manufacturer was right to brand it as a dietary supplement. AeroShot went on the market late last month in Massachusetts and New York, and it’s also available in France. Consumers put one end of the canister in their mouths and breathe in, releasing a fine powder that dissolves almost instantly. Each grey-and-yellow plastic canister contains B vitamins, plus 100 milligrams of caffeine powder, about the equivalent of the …
