https://www.out.com/television/2021/4/23/ryan-murphys-halston-series-netflix-has-premiere-date-and-first-look#media-gallery-media-1 of the iconic fashion designer Halston. Today would have been the 89th birthday of Halston, who died from complications related to AIDS in 1990. But his story, which has been told onscreen multiple times before, will now be portrayed by Ewan McGregor in a show set to launch on May 14. "He was, to us, the only choice," Murphy told Vogue of casting McGregor. "The thing that Ewan got about Halston was that Halston had a vision in his mind of who he wanted to be in life. He was self-created." The five-episode series wil…

I watched this on Netflix and really enjoyed it. It was produced by Lee Daniels and Idris Elba (who also starred). I enjoyed the story but it has not gotten great reviews. It is truly worth the watch though.

So this is going to be the same movie we already paid to see, plus an hour and a half of extended content plus end on a cliffhanger. Since the original movie was a piece of shit I can't imagine this being anything but a simply longer piece of shit. What is DC thinking?

It's interesting. Based on a true crime I'd never heard of. the thing is the guy had a great scam going in Asia and could have done it forever but then he started killing people which meant he eventually got caught. Dumb dude. When you get a good scam going just keep doing it. Do not vary.

They just released this for consoles a couple days ago. What do you think of it? For me I find it buggy (but less so after the last two upates) but fascinating. You play bisexual (omnisexual?) dude who is a complete addict. I found some heroin in a body of a guy who had been dead for seven days and shot it up. The thing is the guy doesn't know he's insane and assumes all of the relatively sober people around him are the crazy ones. It's really interesting.

On April 16, Amazon will air a new historical drama, Leonardo, about the life of the great painter. It is now well known and documented that Leonardo was gay. Giorgio Vasari's famous 1550 volume "Lives of the Artists" makes clear that Leonardo was besotted with his male assistant Salai. Salai even appears as a beautiful angel in one of his best known paintings. It is also known he surrounded himself with good-looking assistants and pupils. Documents discovered around 1900 show that Leonardo was accused of sodomy before Florentine magistrates in 1476. Yet Amazon's portrait of Leonardo "drags Caterina da Cremona out of the shadows". The show's writer claims this was th…

Man just watched this and it's a great show. Some of the most beautiful dudes I've seen anywhere - and lots of them whether you are into twinks or bears or whatever. Tons of hot gay sex. You even get a scene where a pregnant woman masturbates while watching two dudes fuck. Highly recommended to anyone who likes good TV and good sex.

Until about 25 years ago I knew absolutely nothing about this 15th century painter who was arguably the most important painter of the early Renaissance period. Today his few works continue to amaze me. I came across him completely by surprise. Good friends of mine had bought an old farmhouse on a hill about 20 minutes west of Arezzo in Umbria. One summer three friends and I went to stay in their beautifully decorated home. On our first evening, we had a barbecue by the swimming pool. In the early evening light, the fields stretching down were filled with wild poppies and the fireflies started to come out. Eventually we could see the lights from hilltop Renaissance to…

If any reader happens to be in Tokyo and interested in art, there is a host of large galleries and many that are smaller. One Gallery that is a definite must-see and often not listed along with larger galleries is one started by the founder of the Bridgestone tyre company who was an avid art collector. His collection formed the basis of the Bridgestone Gallery which has recently re-opened after a three year refurbishment. It is now named the Artizon Museum and is situated not far from the Kabuki Theatre. The collection is not large but contains some amazing paintings by Monet, Renoir, Pissaro, van Gogh, Gaugin, Picasso, Matisse and a host of others. This is in addition to…

Although music is not included in the forum title, I assume it can be bracketed with art. James Levine was one of the great conductors of the second half of the last century. He was Artistic Director at the Metropolitan Opera for about 40 years, a record that will never be broken. He also conducted virtually all the world's great orchestras, many like the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic regularly. He died recently aged 77. Like all conductors he was not perfect. In Levine's case, his flaws unfortunately included a sexual attraction to teenagers. Rumours abounded especially in the music profession that the Board of the Metropolitan Opera had paid large…

Last night I ended up binging the whole series of It’s a Sin. It wasn’t until this afternoon that the sheer gravitas of the show hit me. What an utter amazing series which I am sure will stay with me for a long time to come. This TV series is an absolute triumph! Brilliant, funny, poignant, important. I grew up on the London gay scene in the early 00s and by that time, safe sex was so much drummed into us that HIV and AIDS never really seemed like a big issue, but watching this show made me realise what it was like back in those days. Thankfully, we have come a long way and it is not the death sentence it used to be and the vast majority of people go on to l…

Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis is a 2016 memoir by J. D. Vance about the Appalachian values of his Kentucky family and their relation to the social problems of his hometown of Middletown, Ohio, where his mother's parents moved when they were young. A friend had me read the book a year or so ago and I loved it. I just watched the Netflix movie and it was fabulous. Glen Close was amazing and the rest of the cast was excellent. I loved the story and being a redneck myself, I totally pictured myself in this movie.

I loved the speech from Fonda's acceptance. I grew up watching her movies and seeing her life. On Golden Pond was something that even my mom and I loved. Few movies did that. She is great! "We are a community of storytellers, aren't we and in turbulent, crisis-torn times like this, storytelling has always been essential. You see, stories have a way to change our hearts and our minds," Fonda shared. "They can help us see each each other in a new light. To have empathy, to recognize that, for all of our diversity, we are humans first." "Stories, they really can change people," she shared. "But there's a story we have been afraid to see and hear about ourselves and…

Clever, well-paced, tightly written French drama mini-series with Omar Sy in the title role. I viewed it in a measured fashion in order to savour rather than binge.

I am enjoying the first season of Mayans MC. It is the Sons of Anarchy spinoff. I like it. I like JD Pardo who is the lead and think he is adorable. I remember him from Breaking Dawn and wanted to see him do more ever since.

I am excited to see Netflix's new The Boys in the Band with an all star stellar cast! The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons, The Sinner's Matt Bomer and Brian Hutchison, NOS4A2's Zachary Quinto, Black Monday's Andrew Rannells and Tuc Watkins, Teen Wolf's Charlie Carver, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's Michael Benjamin Washington, and In the Heights stage actor Robin de Jesús all featured in that Broadway bow, which won a Tony in 2019 for Best Revival of a Play. They all return now for the film, as shown in the first-look reveal. https://ew.com/movies/the-boys-in-the-band-ryan-murphy-first-look/ I have had the hots for Matt Bomer for ages and love Charline Carver.
