I watched, the very anticipated, "Call Me by Your Name". I read the book this summer and liked it a lot. There has been a lot of hype about the release of the movie and I was counting the minutes until it was released. I was worried it would be a let down, but, it wasn't thanks to Timothee Chalamet's performance. What an amazing young actor he is. He is practically in every scene and he never drops the ball. He brought memories back of my own first love experiences and the agony that involved. Armie Hammar is the perfect foil. He's the unobtainable American beauty. Tall, blonde, masculine, confident, and extraordinarily handsome. Decades ago, I had an experi…

I'm like a lot of people that lost interest in The Walking Dead soon after Steven Yeun's character Glenn Rhee was killed off. Glenn was a key original character. The writers should have done better. He's awesome. But this post is about an award winning movie he stars in, Minari, which will hit theaters in February and will stream at some point. Looks great! (It's an American film.)

Apparently there were gays in the military during WWII. A photo book shows them nude. Titled "My Buddy. World War II Laid Bare," the book has tons of photos. https://www.vogue.fr/vogue-hommes/culture/diaporama/world-war-two-soldiers-stripped-naked-literally/50600?image=5c3612cfcf01b0232e608f83

They just had a reunion. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/queer-as-folk-cast-reunites_us_5b1dd215e4b0bbb7a0de93fa I enjoyed the photos and the interviews I found online. This was one of my favorite shows years ago and I had parties in NYC with gay guys who would sit in my small living room to watch each episode. It was delightful. BTW: Peter Paige is the one that did The Fosters.

Adam Driver is all over the entertainment news. I saw him last week in The Report, and I saw him last night in Marriage Story on Netflix. The movie received six Golden Globe nominations yesterday, including Best Actor for Adam Driver. The movie is certainly well done. Scarlett Johansson plays the wife, Laura Dern plays her lawyer. My review says that the women in this movie are awfully harsh on the men. Driver can't win when they gang up on him. Dern, in particular, plays a ball-cutting divorce lawyer. Ultimately, the movie was just depressing. If two well-intended people cannot make a go of marriage, what's that leave for others not so committed? Relationships …

The Waste Land BY T. S. ELIOT FOR EZRA POUND IL MIGLIOR FABBRO I. The Burial of the Dead April is the cruellest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire, stirring Dull roots with spring rain. Winter kept us warm, covering Earth in forgetful snow, feeding A little life with dried tubers. Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee With a shower of…

I saw Pieces of a Woman at the Venice Film Festival last September. I saw it again last night on Netflix with subtitles on. It's a depressing movie, for sure, but there is so much talent at work on this production, I had to give it another shot. Vanessa Kirby is amazing in this performance. I can't imagine what it takes for an actor to reach this level of commitment. The same is true for Shia LaBeouf. I'll never forget the first time I met Shia. He delivered an unforgettable impact. His film Honey Boy is an incredible look into his very painful, personal past. He certainly has issues, but my god, what a talent this guy is. In Pieces of a Woman, Shia exposes his …

Of the things I miss during the pandemic, one thing that's crossed my mind more than once is when will I attend a Rufus Wainwright concert again. He has concert dates set for next summer and fall in Europe, but nothing in the States. I look forward to COVID free times! He will perform tomorrow night on Austin City Limits taped last month. In the meantime here is an oldie. Tomorrow's set list is from his latest album plus an encore of an old fave.

A fantastic indy film that is coming soon to streaming! It will be available on demand in the US January 15. Carey Mulligan is fantastic in this, and a surprisingly good performance from Bo Burnham as well. Used to seeing him as a stand-up comic but he really shone here in this more serious role! Also... Jennifer Coolidge is almost unrecognizable in this, but delivers a great (even if quite small) performance!

Interesting movie from Taiwan, It's about the love between two boys, pure love which continued for more than 30 years! Do NOT miss it if you like Asian and Chinese cultures. Storyline from IMDB In 1987, decades of martial law is lifted in Taiwan and two schoolboys, A-han and Birdy, are about to enter an illicit love affair after meeting in the school band led by a Canadian priest named Oliver. While the whole country commemorates the late president, the two boys bask in each other's presence as A-han's affection for Birdy is awakened. However, society is homophobic and the threat of violence and social shaming enacted by adults and their fellow teens caus…
