bkkmfj2648 got a reaction from splinter1949 in I may do a side trip
I just returned from 12 days in Da Nang, Vietnam - as I needed to escape Thailand's Songkran water splashing madness.
I LOVE Da Nang - a mid size city right on the South China Sea with little to no pollution as the winds from the sea keep things fresh.
I live in Jomtien, Thailand and I found that Da Nang from a financial point of view to be between 20% to 30% cheaper than what things cost in the Pattaya area - I believe that is because the VND - Vietnamese Dong currency is not doing well at the moment.
I hired a local gay guide to show me around and he was great - DM me if you want more info about him.  No sex - but a great kind guy who has his own car and could take me out of Da Nang to nearby Hue (to see the imperial city), Hoi An where we went to the nearby off-shore island of Cham to do snorkeling and on return to Hoi An proper we visited the unique coconut island water farm in those typical round circular Vietnamese boats (this was one of the highlights for me on this trip to Da Nang).
The other thing that I did was rent a motorbike for several days and I just LOVED driving out of Da Nang up into the surrounding hills where you have an amazing view of all of the beaches and the Da Nang city skyline off in the distance.
Da Nang has 1 gay bar = https://www.facebook.com/qbardanang1
I did not visit it as I was too busy touring around and getting my daily massages in my lovely 22nd floor AirBnB that overlooked the entire South China Sea.
To meet guys, the number ONE app is BLUED - now renamed to HeeSay.  Hornet is not big in Vietnam like it is in Thailand.  and then there is Grindr (which I hate).
Just from the HeeSay app alone - I received over 300 messages in 12 days - truly off the scale - for sex, dates (even for just a romantic walk on the Da Nang seaside), massages, and general queries.
Food was great and my gay tour guide turned me onto a different type of Vietnamese coffee - which is called - Cà Phê Muối = sea salt cream coffee - this is now my MOST favorite Vietnamese coffee.
so, I guess I need to do a trip report - how do I hate those - as they are so much work to write a proper one with maps, photos, info, etc. - but I will do it eventually.

    here my answers:
    1. since I stay in the area rarely I need transport to hotel and legend that boys are reluctant to walk is gross exaggeration  .
For going back I almost never give money understanding and if they ask, explaining that they got enough already.
When one boy protested he doesn't have 'small money' i pulled wad of  few red notes and offered to change brown bill. Shockingly he did not take an offer, ever more shockingly since then we met at last 5 times and he never asked for tax money.
2.I almost never tip mamasan , exceptions are if they were helping to translate, rarely necessary or I know mamasan for long time( like Lucy at Banana or Screwboys mamasan ) and I'm in spending mood or I asked mamasan to bring boy who is not working today, in short once every two trips.
    3. that may happen but even if I dint not like boy much I would consider that money well spent
    4. 127.38% agreed, for me main advantage of long time is to wake up in the morning next to warm body with dick firmly attached.  It's why I hate when they deprive me that small life pleasure by asking to go home earlier

No dispute that there were more choices  in the past. But did most of us really used it? Perhaps expats or people on 3 months vacations.
I like it better now because it's now and presents options I can use currently.
Boys I was drooling about 10 years ago now are  often balding , developing respectable waist size and often trying to forget about their past job.
For me no memory substitutes for moment I'm entering bar  and spa now, curious as ever what I will find on other side of door . If I dream I rather visualize  my first walk next trip through soi 4  toward Jupiter on my way greeted by owner of G'Bangkok or barkers at Banana then recall some exciting first walk through soi Twilight bak in 2015 as much as I miss it. But it's gone   .
On merit of Sunee it's easy for me as I never really considered the place substitute to my more favorable digs - Boyztown. I liked Good Boys though but still can't say I missed it since it's not there anymore.

    .......
It's mamasan.s job to be pushy so learn to ignore them or tell them you like the girls, they will not believe you but get a subtle  f...off message
in Moonlight there are two categories of guys, models and floor boys. Floor boys are those who usually sport numbers indicating they are available. Of fee 500. Some floor boys are better looking than some models IMNSHO
Models have their own parade and are introduced by the name , off fee 1000. Tip expected may be steep
Since you like both Jupiter and Moonlight you may be interested to know that Moonlight is in old Jupiter's location before they moved to soi 4.

Like JackR said above don't get discouraged by bad experience. It happened to all of us , even very experienced ones.
Skill of navigating system comes only with experience and training yourself with help of what you learn here on forum.
Keep in mind though we posters are showing world as we see through our lenses. Every bar and every boy in them will be either top of the line , not to be missed  for some but also run for others.
I said this billion times on this forum that my best and second worst encounter was with the same Tawan boy two years apart
No doubt guy you offed from Screwboys acted as an asshole. As professional he sensed that you are new to the scene and skilfully milked you of money  (and some other stuff I gather,  as well ). Those things happed but they are rare.
Sometimes we lose head in heat of the moment and ignore warning signals, sometimes we see them but still feel like acting fair by keeping our side of bargain , usually to regret it later.
For me one of those is when boy or mamasan marketing him seem to be too eager or too pushy.
Check your bin in the bar  and don't assume you already paid for this or that. If they see you careless with money they may exploit it. If you have doubt, ask.
Thais on the street are very honest bunch but inside of bars many morals are taking back seat in the corner.
You seem to be surprised  by advice that you should tip boy sitting with you if you bought him a drink already. Out of that drink he may get 20-50 baht , in few bars only as much as 100. In meantime you are holding him beside, scaring of other prospective customers. It's why you should tip him, at least  to compensate for possible loss of earnings.
You will see it for yourself, boy of your dreams sitting with some customer while you are salivating ,  praying that old , fat troll will go home in 5 minutes.
As Spoon advised above  , if you are subsequently taking boy with you, no need to tip him even if you had him sitting for prolonged time.
hope it helped and have luck with Tawan guys

bkkmfj2648 reacted to reader in Pay gap in adult film industry
NOTE -- Not surprising that longevity in the industry depends on ability to deliver the "money shot" on cue over course of career.
    From The Thaiger
A renowned Japanese adult film actor sparked a considerable online buzz after revealing the disparity in earnings between male and female performers in the porn industry. Known for his fitness and stamina, the actor shed light on the financial aspects of male performers’ roles, which are significantly less lucrative compared to their female counterparts.
This revelation has captured the attention of adult film enthusiasts globally, highlighting the challenges and endurance required in the profession.
Shimiken, the actor in question, took to Twitter to discuss the compensation or fees that male adult film actors receive. He outlined that the highest payment for male performers can reach up to 50,000 yen per film, which equates to approximately 12,000 baht.
This peak compensation, however, is reserved for those who have progressed through the industry’s ranks to land leading roles.
Beginning at the base level, amateur male leads, who are part of the film but not in scenes with top actresses, receive about 10,000 yen (2,400 baht) per film. These actors often remain unnamed and unrecognised. Their ability to perform under pressure is crucial, as any failure to do so could result in no pay.
The second level involves a step up from the base, where actors have more involvement in the films and can control their performance, earning them 20,000 yen per film. The third tier includes actors who understand the intricacies of the job and can perform in various types of scenes.
These actors can control their physical responses on cue and are paid 30,000 yen per film.
At the fourth level, actors capable of filming one-on-one scenes with leading actresses and possessing camera skills, such as those required for intimate hotel room films, can command 40,000 yen per film. These roles are typically with independent actresses not affiliated with any major studio.
The fifth and top level is where actors earn the trust to debut with new female performers. Shimiken notes that these trusted and mistake-free performers can earn 50,000 yen per film. Popular actors like Daisuke Sadamatsu and Muscle Sawano, who frequently open films, have become leading figures in the industry, with opportunities to act in more than 40 scenes a month.
An actor’s ability to perform multiple times a day is essential in this high-demand profession. This level of trust from film companies and support from fans requires not only talent but also a robust physical constitution. The insights provided by Shimiken, a respected and experienced actor, offer a rare glimpse into the financial aspect of male performers in the adult film industry.
Shimiken, whose real name is Ken Shimizu, is 44 years old and has been active in the adult film scene since he was 18. With a career spanning over two decades and featuring in more than 10,000 titles, Shimizu has established himself as a prominent and beloved figure in the industry, amassing a significant fan following.

Boyztown was full. You'd struggle to get a seat in BB on Saturday nights. At Panorama, seats in the front three or so rows were invariably full by the early evening.
There was an air of vibrancy, movement and  excitement quite different to anything visible in the last fifteen years plus.
The number of dancers was staggering. BB invariably had up to one hundred. Cockpit forty plus. Toyboys thirty or so.
Many punters plus many guys equals vibrant. Or for those of us lucky enough to be there, the Golden Age. Those times have passed.
Nevertheless, I still travel there enthusiastically three times a year...well, to  Jomtien/Pattaya. And there are many aspects that are better than in those days....restaurants, for example, travel to the airport, a real bug bear in the Golden Age. And the growth of jomtien and improvements to Pattaya's beach. And I forgot, the apps for those who get bored in the afternoons.
    Read Michael Burchill's book.

Yes he did. He was returning to the US for treatment to his kidneys.
Some posters on another forum loathed him, even gloating at his demise. Not that board's finest hour, in  my view. He had made enemies when he owned it.
We'd often breakfast together at Ambiance. He was good company. He had two rooms there on a long-term rental. Penthouse suites, one for him, the other for whoever his plats de jour were. Note the plural.
I knew one of his entourage well, indeed, had been offing him for some years. Whatever other posters said, he was liked by his guys (a big thing for me, much more important than being liked by falang visitors and expats) and this was confirmed by P who knew him by repute and whose judgement I respect.

One of the joys of retiring in Thailand is that the past is still alive.
When I lived in New York City in the 80s is was still popular for concierge / bell boy services to still be free and abundant in many of the NYC residential buildings.
Fast forward with the western move to outsource everything and to eliminate formerly "free" services - these types of free concierge services quickly disappeared - remaining only for the elite and ultra rich people.
I moved to Pattaya 18 months ago and the services available to us condo dwellers in View Talay are amazing and remind me of that time in NYC when we also had these free services.
For example - I don't own a car - but when I first started settling into my condo - I had to make many big purchases and rent special Bolt vans - SUVs to get these purchases home.  I would struggle to get them out of the Bolt when it arrived to the View Talay lobby and amazingly, many from the condo security team would run towards me to help me unload these large boxes and then assist me with the freight elevator and bring them into my condo room - all for free - and with a BIG smile as they are always happy to see you return home.  Of course I tipped them all.
This is one example of many where the free services we get in Thailand are a remnant of what we used to get back in the west....
so, retire in Thailand and have the joy of going back in time :>))

I am well aware that nothing is done for "free".
The point that I was trying to make is:
In the 1980s in New York City (NYC) these types of concierge services and access to a type of bellboy service were readily made available to you by the building that you lived in.  Yes you had to tip them - so it was not free and their salaries were in the condo assessment fee.
Now in the 2000s these services are no longer readily available - except for the elite and ultra rich - due to cost cutting and outsourcing.
Now in the 2000s (2024) what was once available in NYC in the 1980s is still available in Thailand in many of the large condo places.  Yes it is not free - as their salaries are included in the condo assessment fee.  But what is more important is that these concierge / bellboy services were not taken away from us in Thailand.
So, by living in Thailand - you can have the joy of going back in time to the good old days and get services (not free) that were readily available in the 1980s that are still available in Thailand.

    Part 4
After breakfast, T left me with an invitation to join him in his birthday celebration with friends. I smiled and replied, saying I would try but wasn't very sure since I had friends coming over. I suggested we could go out after his birthday. He seemed satisfied with my answer, and so was I. Part of me suspected that I would end up spending a substantial amount if I went, and it would be awkward to be a stranger among his friends during the birthday party.
As I busied myself with work, housekeeping auntie cleaned up my room. Meanwhile, I received constant SMS updates from Jake, letting me know where he was on his flight. The last message was a selfie with the airport pickup staff holding a paper with his name. I chuckled at his enthusiasm. Later, he would express how he felt like a VIP seeing his name held up at the airport, appreciating the experience of airport pickup I arranged. It was another realization of how mundane things for some could be a source of delight for others.
About an hour later, Jake arrived, beaming with smiles, and we exchanged a big hug. Despite my initial worries about feeling awkward, the first few hours turned out to be pleasant. We went to a cafe for his brunch and my second coffee, continuing our conversation. By midday, I asked him what he would like to do next. He smiled mischievously and suggested going back to take a shower. I supported the idea, and soon we found ourselves showering together and more.
Due to the scorching weather and his early flight, we decided to relax in the room and take a nap, waiting for Bangkok to cool down. Around 4p.m., we took a Grab taxi to Siam Paragon to enjoy coffee and people-watch. We indulged in a massage and then headed to Surawong for an early dinner.
After dinner, we found ourselves at Starbucks in Montien. As I sipped my fourth and hopefully last coffee of the night, Jake asked me which bar I would like to go to. Although I had no prior plans to visit any bars while with him, I decided to finally try Sol bar since he asked. If it turned out to be disappointing, at least I would have someone to share the disappointment with.
As we navigated through the space, the tables and chairs proved to be a precarious obstacle course. The small leaner tables, each paired with two high chairs, appeared as if they might topple over with the slightest nudge. Even without any alcohol in our systems, we found ourselves teetering on the edge of disaster as we attempted to find stable seating. It was clear that the furniture was ill-suited for this type of place.
Despite the less-than-ideal seating arrangements, our attention was soon drawn to the stage where a performance was midway. However, any anticipation we had quickly dissipated as the show unfolded. The performers seemed disinterested, going through the motions without any genuine enthusiasm.
While I'm not particularly a connoisseur of bar boy performances, one particular attempt at a BDSM show at Sol bar left much to be desired. As the performance unfolded, it descended into what can only be described as a cringe-inducing spectacle. Towards the conclusion, it appeared more like a guy being awkwardly thrashed with a makeshift whip fashioned from a black pool noodle. Jake's discomfort was obvious as he repeatedly buried his face on my shoulder, and it was evident that nobody in the audience was truly enjoying the display. The climax of the performance, featuring the supposedly dominator blowing several sticks of candles off and pretending to shove it down the other guys arse, prompted me to make the decision to end our evening and settle our bills. Sadly, Sol bar fell short of providing even the bare minimum of we had hoped for. Even Jake, who usually found enjoyment in most experiences, appeared visibly unimpressed. With a sense of resignation, I made the decision to cut our losses and call it a night.
Outside the bar, Jake's mixture of cringing and laughter mirrored my own bemusement. A few days later, I will have a chat with the Papasan at Screwboys who mentioned that Sol's owner is from Malaysia and is not familiar with the Bangkok scene. What the Papasan said next totally captures the current Sol bar - "they don't know how to make gay customers happy". I really hope they will be able to turn this around and improve in the future. At the end of the day, the more decent choices us clients have, the better.
Meanwhile, we decided to stop by 7-11 to buy some supplies and drinks. Reflecting on the disappointing show, Jake suggested we go home, where he promised to put on a better show for me ------ And I can gladly report that he did!

Hey folks. I've enjoyed reading trip reports on here in the past (most recently CallMeLee's excellent thread) so I thought I would share my experiences. This is an on-going report, so I will update it as needed as the month progresses. I'm only including my experiences with moneyboys and the bar system, and won't include day-to-day activities or personal hook-ups. I will detail sauna visits in as much as possible.
My interest in doing this is partially to understand more about the system and how to work it effectively. I can't help but feel like I'm being scammed when I compare these experiences with ones I've read in the past. Please share all that you know with me, and I'll try and answer any question you have. I am a younger caucasian male and my interest is in big cocks and muscular guys who enjoy flexing. While this may sound typical, most of the reports I've read are more Twink-focused and haven't been helpful in getting what I want. I also haven't seen many detailed reports about the system, just brief mentions. I hope to make it easy for everyone to understand.
First Experience, Two Nights in Space:
Having already been in Bangkok for a few nights, a friend from outside of the country decided to make a short stopover. I told him I wanted to go to Jupiter2018 and see the show and he agreed to join me. I did see the Jupiter show on a previous trip, but merely for the show itself- I was naive and even younger. I told my friend what I had remembered of the show in the past. The men in Jupiter were like boyband members, lean and muscular, with meager rhythm and mediocre talent. They would go on stage and preform a number, interspersed with drag performances, but they were often good-looking and charming.

We arrived a little after 10:00 PM and I paid 500 THB in entrance fees for each both of us, for 1000 THB total. The bar was quite packed, and perhaps as clientele that didn't look like they needed to spend money (my friend is a well-built caucasian male), we got sat in the corner table left of the front stage. We had a partially obscured view, but the advantages would be apparent later.

Once sat, a waiter comes up with a flashlight and a menu. A drink is included with the entrance fee, but it's non-alcoholic. You pay extra for that, are you surprised? That's fine with us as we want to see the show we weren't planning on drinking. We order a Coke Zero each. To me, the 500 THB fee is worth it for the show. I wouldn't recommend ordering a second drink though. Spend that money on something more worthwhile.

I was actually giddy with excitement. While not particularly horny, I am always interested in seeing an attractive guy showing off his physique. Luckily the men met my expectations. Nearly all of them had lean, muscular bodies with several being substantially larger. Only one model was an average looking Twink, and I actually felt a little sad for him being surrounded by what was on stage. Many of the models had tattoos and gave a polished gang vibe, like they'd definitely slam you against a wall by your neck. Hot.

My favourite thing about Jupiter is that you can see the gym equipment and watch the models pump before their performances. It's also a two-level stage, and models often hang out on the top portion and look down after they've done their walk. You can view them at a different angle. It's a good venue and offers more voyeuristic opportunities than any other.
The show itself starts with the introduction of the models. They each come on stage, one by one, and walk along a track through the bar. It gives the crowd a good opportunity to see them up-close, and of course to offer them a tip if you want to get their attention. That's another positive about Jupiter, but I'll touch on that at the end. The performance continues with an act from 4 of the men. It's a dance number with okay choreography, but one of the models doesn't quite match up. The models perform with a serious, stern look. It's quite sexy and gives an intensity to their performance.

After this, I'm approached by one of the many mamasans of the bar. My friend points out that he's pretty attractive himself. He's in his 40's but I agree, a retired performer himself? More feminine than most of the models though, but not overly. I'm asked which one I want and I'm surprised I'm given such an early pick. That's not my intention tonight though. I'm just here to watch the full show with a friend, and takes notes for a future visit. "All of them!" I say, smiling ear to ear. They take the hint and walk away.

My friend says that he might take the offer in the future. I'm a little surprised as I didn't expect him to be open to it. We each talk about which ones are our favourites. My choices all have big muscles, big ears and tattoos. There are quite a few I would consider! Upwards of 8. Does Jupiter have the best roster, or should this be expected everywhere I go? I have my answer... you'll find out as the report goes on.
The next performance has a model spin a hola-hoop around his waist in a beautiful, ferocious manner. The sheer strength and endurance of this performance arouses me to a great degree. My friend leans over and whispers, "Can you imagine him in bed?" I'm instantly rock hard. He is not my type physically, but he's added to the list.
A drag performance is next. I know they're unpopular with a lot of you, but I honestly don't mind. You just need to have them scheduled appropriately. The pacing needs to be right. I don't walk into a bar like this to see 6 drag performances and 3 male model performances. Luckily Jupiter does it right again. The performance is good but not great, thankfully the queen can lip-sync as I unfortunately found out that's not a minimum requirement for a lot of these place. Imagine that.
There is a drag performance immediately afterward, but this one is more of a mixed performance. The drag performer plays the role of "the woman" and a one of the models plays the role of "the mysterious man." He wears a trench coat with no shirt underneath and looks down, taking long drags from a cigarette as smoke envelops around him. The drag performer lip-syncs from above the stage as he stands on the lower stage, eventually stripping down and "showering." He shows an enormous cock very briefly and my friend and I are shocked.

This man is immediately my number one choice as he fits every criteria I'm looking for. He's big and broad with ripped abs, has many tattoos, big ears and as we just witnessed, a massive cock. I'd estimate it at 8 inches and quite thick. As we are on the front side of the stage, we get quite a good look at it! I think I have done enough research. I have my choice, but not tonight.

We slowly sip our drinks and no one bothers us again. They do sit another patron at our table. They approach him several times and eventually he's moved to a better seat. I tell my friend that it's because he's spending money. Surely enough, he's soon sitting with one of the models.

The bar has several women in it tonight. One Chinese woman is dressed very nicely, and keeps buying shots for the models. She also places a 1000 THB ring around two of the model's necks. My friend and I question what this is. Is he the top performer? Is he off the market for the night? I found out that it's merely a way of giving a large tip. I was wondering why she was so special! Her attire threw me off. Was she attending a gala immediately afterwards? Did I see a diamond tiara on her head? Oh, no, it's just her radiant beauty sparkling from across the floor. Another patron in front of us gives a 100 THB bill to each performer as they walk past him. He gropes them with each tip and jiggles his belly with glee. He's a young Chinese guy. I keep this in mind for future visits.
The show finishes off without any other memorable performances, and as the night goes on, the stage is filled with less and less models. One of the performances ends and then nothing else happens, so my friend and I assume the show must be over. I believe there is a second performance, but I can't imagine it would be as good. Who's left? Do they restock with a fresh set of faces? We both have to be up quite early tomorrow as we are taking a day trip together, so we quickly sip the remaining soda we have and we walk out.
We say our goodbyes as we are staying in different hotels, in opposite directions. He says he enjoyed the show and would like to go to the other show I told him about, Tawan. I agree. I watch as he walks away and wait for him to look back. He turns the corner. All I see are night vendors.

I pause for a moment, my cock twitches. I consider walking back in and bringing one of the models back home with me...

We first tried to see the BoyzBoyzBoyz show at 10:30 but all tables reserved except for the horrible ones to the side of stage. They said they had to hold the others so we left without a show or drinks.
Toy Boys was second stop and boy Tawan boy and I both found boys we liked and had them over for drinks. Mine was from Laos and cute and on a normal night, I would have taken him but I can to celebrate the beloved's BD so I let him pick someone. Needless to say it was a fem boy.    But, very sweet and good English. We brought him back to the hotel and the BF had about 2 hours of fun with him. When I asked why I only get 45 seconds of fun every time, he said, "that is you and not me."  Oh well, age has both advantages and disadvantages.
We had stopped here after a trip to Sunnee. It was good to see that NiceBoys still has that photo of Charlie. Wow. He was such a fun guy and good to that bar.
As for ToyBoys, honestly, there were at least 4 or 6 guys I would have taken on my own. Some cute and well defined bodies. I did get my drink boys LINE as he said he comes to Bangkok some and wants to spend Songkran there.

This is one example of many where the free services we get in Thailand are a remnant of what we used to get back in the west....
so, retire in Thailand and have the joy of going back in time :>))

despite democratic veneer this debacle still proves what Thailand is , Third World feudal autocracy.
You don't like opposition party , dissolve it. You don't like opposition politician, ban him from public life for crime of not clipping his nails or wearing wrong coloured tie.
And then one day you wonder why  country inflamed or just collapsed without a shoot like most of East European communist regimes did (Romania excepted).
