  1. Did you buy travel insurance? It should help to cover that.

Years ago, when there is a political situation in Bangkok (quite bad), Thai Airways did refund me on a non-refundable ticket. That surprised me.

Last year, I didn't manage to get my Thai Pass approved in Dec for my Feb trip, the hotel refunded my first day hotel stay + PCR.

FYI: I have booked The Venue. That is to my surprise a Test&Go hotel.

Here’s the link u can check for T&G hotels. I got this link from Thai Pass website: https://web.thailandsha.com/shaextraplus

Book directly from the hotel. Your TP will need to route to the hotel for approval. If there are any changes, u can talk to your hotel directly.
I booked mine with hotel directly. The hotel will be responsible for all the test and transport from hotel.
I read some folks had little problems here and there when booking through 3rd party website. And u have more options when booking directly.

The approval is no longer able to get it done in 1 day. It needs more than 3-5 days. Do it early and more than 1 week advance.

I am also looking to go to Thailand again after 2 years.

The PCR test is easy to arrange. The proof I have health insurance is easy to arrange.

But I understand I can only book at certain hotels and must arrange already from home to trip to Pattaya.

How is this done? How and where can I book taxi to the hotel up front? When I go to booking.com or hotel.com it will be easy to see which hotels you can book and which I can not book?

Better book the hotel directly. The first approval is the hotel itself. By booking directly, the hotel has your reservation records and it is easy to get them to approve your TP fast. You can let them know that you had submitted your TP so that they can look out for it. Going through 3rd party will have some delay.

Is it true that the 5th day testing and quarantine doesnt apply if your trip is shorter than 5 days? And by extension, if your trip is within 5-7 days, u cab use the pcr test for your pre-departure pcr returning home too?

Yes for the 1st question. I believe the answer is yes to your 2nd question depending how your country's requirements.

Also, I'm ticketed for departure on Feb. 7. Since  I can't apply for the pass until Feb. 1, there's a high probability it would not get approved in time. In that scenario, I lose my investment in two quarantine hotel reservations and insurance premium.

Although I'm retired and have more flexibility, those using vacation time would be more than a little inconvenienced.

I'm planning for departure on 4th Feb.  I'm taking a gamble on this.  Wish me luck!

** I'm waiting for Royal Gazette to release tomorrow (hopefully) so that I can start my bookings.

in, God forbid, such a case I'd be trying to contact hotels , they may show flexibility with arrangements as well as extending check-out and check-in (my own experience   )

Hyatt Bangkok allow me to cancel the booking even though it states that no cancellation is allowed after I email them and of cos showing them the TP rejection.

Years ago when there is a huge protest, Thai Airways also allow me to cancel my non-cancellation ticket after I called them.

Something I like about Thailand is that they are willing to make things happen unless it is beyond their ability.

World went amok over covid issue, lunacy prevails. I like description ' manufactured panic" , brilliant !!!.

Only consolation is , all countries seem to be stupid over issue , either too strict or too lax so we in the same boat. The same follows with populations, a lot of too panicky or too dismissive. I'm already enemy of some neighbors because I dared to travel and return bringing unspeakable danger  to the whole building. I'm kidding you not.

You neighbours need to understand that you are traveling to places with low infection rates while most of my countrymen's leisure travel to US and Europe are having higher infection rates when they are back. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the lockdown will not be back especially we are just less than a month to Chinese New Year.

So long you had your booster, all is well.

  8. There goes my trip in Feb. There were some thoughts going in December but my bf and I decided on Feb for 3 reasons:

    1. More people from US and Europe going to BKK during Dec. So Feb will be the best timing since it is Chinese New Year holidays for Asia.

    2. Planned cruise (to nowhere) with big family in end Dec so better avoid going anywhere.

    3. More shops will be opened and less restrictions.

Too bad, everywhere is battling Omicron and govt around the world doesn't want to repeat the same episode as Delta.

The last time I took the bus to Pattaya Northern Bus station, I was quoted 200 Baht for the Baht bus, whilst the nearby Thais were quoted 30 Baht.  Which they also didn't like.

I obviously didn't take up that offer, on principle !  I haven't used that bus station for years.

The superior airport bus usually departs on time and goes direct to Pattaya with no extra stops before Sukhumvit, Pattaya.

About 10 years ago, there were also reports of the local mafia in brown doing shakedowns of farang at Ekkamai.  Searching their luggage and collecting tea money for any drugs that theoretically need a prescription in Thailand.

Yesterday I watched a youtube video on a trip (recent) to Kanchanburi and part of the trip consists of a slow train where the locals were charged for 3 baht while 100 baht for foreigners.

Im more interested to know which bars have those muay thai guys performing? Also, that dj station scene at the end, is it pre-covid?

The "muay thai" guys are from this bar/restaurant called ChangSha*. The content creator only put it's location in the VIP section which I'm not a member. I also did tried searching for it as well but I can't find. The creator only mentioned that it took him 30 mins drive from Sathorn. It could be quite far from the silom area.

Here is another youtube video focusing on the bar/restaurant. The guys are mostly straight (as mentioned in the video) and they will keep you company while drinking eating. I'm not sure if there are any other services provided.

*ChangSha is a location in China.

  11. Did u just went there yesterday? Was it crowded?

I had many good experiences there too. I found someone that was very good when I was in Hero Feb 2015 but I didn't manage to take his pic. So when I went back again 6 months later, the mamasan couldn't remember who is he even though I gave him the name.

He's Noh. If anyone knows him, please post his pic.
