Hello everyone. I've been lurking around reading all your invaluable advice about Bangkok in preparation for a two-night stay at the end of July. It's only a short time, and I don't want to waste any of it, so I wanted to check with you that I'm making the right choices. Basically, I'm not interested in twinks - only men with muscles, whether it's Moonlight model muscles or Tawan bodybuilders in their thirties or forties. So should I just go to Tawan both nights? Or should I check out New Dreamboy or would you suggest anywhere else? What's the going rate for Tawan guys? Is it the same for everyone or do I agree a price? And what do I do if someone I'm not interested in sits next to me? Say straightaway that I'm not interested or have a conversation and tip him? If I tip him, how much should I give?

I'm also planning to go to Arena for a massage on the day I arrive, and am thinking of getting a guide for the second day. Does anyone have experience of the guides at Siam Roads?

Thanks for reading my many questions :-)

Others might disagree, but I would not worry about a guide on a short, two-night stay unless your odds of returning to Bangkok are almost nil. You are going to have to rest at least a few hours (I hope!!!).

  2. You must have seen quite some changes happening to Bangkok. Was the gay area also in Silom back then? Was the traffic also as chaotic as it is now? I assume it all felt far less crowded than it does now? Where there already many high rise buildings and a layout that doesnt look planned at all to me. It is utter chaos.  You can see that in Google maps, you can't make any sense of it. I think back then Thailand was much poorer, how did this reflect/show in Bangkok in 1982? What was the short time price? Which bars from 1982 do still exists now? Did you need a visa in 1982 or like now we could just enter and get a stamp? No need to arrange beforehand a visa?

I would love if some long time travellers wrote down how it was like so long ago. The boys you had sex with in 1982 are now around 60 year old!

500 baht would keep the boys happy for Long Time, which was about $18 US if I recall correctly. I believe my favorite guest house on Pattayaland  1 was about B350/night.. You could get a plate of pork fried rice for B10 from a street vendor. I can not remember drink prices in the bars.

  3. One night I was headed back to my room. I'd just finished seeing the show at Boyz... I had a date to meet a friend and needed to get back. I sat on the end of the bench of the baht bus, and when all seats were taken, a hot cambodian guy climbed on and stood on the carrier next to me. When we got moving he whispered that he saw me online. I smiled and nodded. He went on to whisper that he was headed to see a client. I smiled again. He told me that his customer likes groups and asked if I would be interested. I smiled and shook my head no. I think the lady next to me understood what was going on, her mood told me that she was trying to hard to act as if she didn't understand us.

The guy pulled out his phone and showed me the guy he was going to see. I knew the guy, we had talked on grindr. I declined again but he continued the soft sell. He invited me to just come and leave if I didn't like it and offer that I could just watch if I wanted. He promised it would not cost me anything. Soon we reached his stop and he got off. The woman next to me looked at me as if wondering what i was going to do. I didn't do anything, i just smiled, thought of the possibilities and continued on to meet my friend.

A sex worker trying to pick you up to join in on sex with a client? Only in Thailand...

I think you were very wise not to go off on that adventure.

  4. Ah yes, Tony Dow. And when I was a teenager I thought the Rifleman's boy Mark was awfully cute.

These days Dear Husband is addicted to Perry Mason. Raymond Burr was gay and Canadian, so that's two good points in his favour. Sometimes the defendant is heart meltingly adorable and Perry is especially sympathetic.

Burr Shmurr….William Hopper was the man  :p

  5. I have never seen Sunee so deserted as the last week. On several occasions I've seen many of the beer bars totally empty of customers.

There is no shortage of boys though.

No shortage indeed. I had several at Winner Boys competing for my attention. It is definitely worth a trip up the soi to take a peek.

A month ago, Jomtien Complex was really hopping on the weekends, but no longer. Boyztown, IMO, was rather quiet during my whole visit. I am not sure if the bars on Pattayaland 1 and 2 are going to survive.

  6. I'm finally beginning to see a potential explanation for the early start.

If they expect large numbers of Thai tourists to use the train, is that early start for cheap day trips from Bangkok to the seaside ?

It can make no sense for anyone staying for a while in a hotel, since you want to arrive after 14:00 to check in to the hotel & want to leave by early afternoon.

It might good for folks in Pattaya going for a night on the town in Bangkok. I might try it.

  7. Did you booked Zing delux room?

Did you enjoyed your stay there?

I believe it was the minimum room---I find it somewhat difficult to tell one class from another at Zing. It did not overlook the pool. I did enjoy my stay, though it may have had to do with who shared it with me  :yahoo: .
