Nobody is saying garotos don’t deserve what they make or that they don’t have to work for it.

But if the army pays a soldier 2400 reals a month for risking his life doing counter-drug operations in favelas, while a garoto can make 13,000 reals a month getting wined and dined, with occasional european vacations, clothes and new cell phones paid for, then comparatively garotos don’t have it that bad.

Hi, thanks for responding.

Did you know that military service is mandatory for most young men in Brazil?

Therefore, if a Brazilian soldier is paid a nominal amount for his duty in dangerous areas,  that just goes with the requirement of the law.

If garotos did not feel it is worth working in a sauna, they would not do it.  Plain and simple.

By the way, most garotos do not make anywhere near 13,000 reais monthly.

The garotos above described is one in a million, ok, one in a thousand. Some guys have all the luck...

Ok, a European vacation might be rare, but more than a few garotos I’ve talked to in Brazil have traveled with clients abroad.

Drinks, meals, clothes and presents are very common I think.

Any attractive garoto could make at least 5,000 a month.  10,000 is not at all unheard of if they are in high demand/very attractive

I knew registering for the draft was mandatory, but from what I understand only about 25% of eligible guys are actually conscripted...I could be wrong.  Most of the garotos have not mentioned doing military service, but admittedly I havn’t asked them specifically.

I know in countries like Israel and Cuba, all men serve at least a year or two without exceptions.

I do get plenty of free sex in Rio.  I rarely write about that here because it pisses people like SolaceSoul off.

I understand these boards are about escorts and saunas, so those are the focus of my postings.

And again, I have not gone around talking about how hot I am, nor would I - it’s totally gauche.  I made one minor comment and it got blown out of proportion by the bitter gringo SolaceSoul

Perhaps if you would have taken a little time to read some of this board’s history instead of blathering on about your first trip, you would probably already know that no one could ever mistake me for a gringo, Asked and answered.

You know what else is gauche? Publicly stating that it causes you some consternation that an older or overweight client — on a board where there probably are a number of readers who just may fit that description — was able to pay less than you for a sex date.

Feel free to call me “bitter” all you’d like, hermano, but I’m not the one who spends even one precious minute concerned about what sex workers charge strangers, and if I am hotter or younger than them, or what that may suggest about my desirability. You may have only mentioned it once, out of all the things that you say, but it was a revealing comment.

And 6’1” and what? Donald Trump claims that he is 6’3” and 238, and we all can plainly see that he looks like warmed-over shit. If I had a buckle for every guy on Grindr and the other apps that described himself as “VGL”, “hot”, “built”, etc. that really wasn’t, I’d already have that beach house in Buzios. But if you say you’re hot, great for you.

And another perspective is the unskilled worker who sees garotos making $41 for less than one hour of work.

If you want to feel sorry for Brazilians, don’t feel sorry for garotos, feel sorry for the rest of the population that work at $2 an hour.

Sure, that’s one perspective. But also, everyone in the population won’t do or cannot do sex work — for a multitude of reasons.

Psych! These $ discussions always derail. Money is money.

And I do believe SolaceSoul by his own previous reference is not Caucasian, if gringo is meant to convey ethnicity. But perhaps gringo refers more generically to a category that transcends race? Not sure.

If I could offload anxieties for others about the persistent theme of being laughably exploitable, by myself being numero uno 'patsy', I would. Why worry? Believe me, I do not.

What range of psychological tools do garotos possess to manage and reconcile their profession, many in the context of marriage and parenthood? Very narrow. I'll take being the butt of a joke if I can take being the butt of a hot stud's bargain bsmnt cock. I get the last laugh, if I want, but I don't want ... I have no interest in their expense.

Stop the world. I actually agree with the loquacious Riobard!

Regarding “gringo”, it can vary by Latin American region, but this Urban Dictionary explanation is probably the most succinct:

”A gringo is just a North American or Anglo-Saxon. It is usually a white person, but it does not have to be. It isn’t a hateful derogatory, but it can be used derogatorily. It also represents peculiar behavior and attitudes that Latinos consider to be uniquely “American".”

The interesting part is:

Conscription

According to Brazilian law, military service is mandatory for all Brazilian men, but conscientious objection is allowed. Women and clergymen are exempt from compulsory military service. In the year that they turn eighteen, men are required to register for the draft and are expected to serve when they reach nineteen.

About 75 percent of those registering receive deferments mainly due to the excessive number of conscripts. Generally, those from the upper class and upper middle class find ways to defer, and as a result, the ranks are made up primarily of lower-class and lower-middle-class recruits. A growing number of recruits are volunteers, accounting for about one-third of the total.

The conscript system is primarily a means of providing basic military training to a sizable group of young men who then return to civilian life and are retained on the reserve rolls until the age of forty-five.

Again, I’m sure the only person who looks like warmed over shit is you.

Being bi-racial doesn’t automatically qualify you as not being a gringo.  I missed the post where you said you are Latino?

Lots of your posts are derogatory to white people, it seems like you have a lot of racial hang ups and/or a chip on your shoulder.

Funny how you and badboy, both men of color, feel the need to gang up on/attack another minority.

If you aren’t concerned with what sex workers charge strangers, then what are you doing reading a topic about that very subject?

Feel free to contribute your own trip reports, and blather on in them as much as you would like.  At least badboy does actually writes trip reports.

Feel free to imagine whatever you wish about my physical appearance, if it makes you feel better about yourself. But I’m not so insecure about my looks or desirability that I would get bent out of shape if an older or fatter client more than me.

“Trip reports” aren’t the only meaningful contributions that traveling posters make to this board. And as can be plainly seen, all “trip reports” aren’t created equal.

Terms like “racial”, “minorities” and “chip on the shoulder” are about the whitest, gringoey-est things someone can say. Por cierto, mi abuelo negro era panameño.

BTW, regarding posting any criticism, I think your posts, like anyone else’s, can be worthy of both praise and criticism. If you say something worth praising, you certainly get that — but when you say something that is foul and deserves criticism for even condemnation, that’s fair game as well. If you want nothing but sycophants worshipping your every word, then you can start your own blog where you can delete comments and prevent dissent.

There are definitely people on this board who get perturbed if you mention that you are attractive enough to find sex without paying. For me, I like to hear about the other side of tourism...sex clubs, cruisy theaters, parks, etc.

It seems to me that it only becomes a problem whenever some poster makes a post that is derisive or dismissive about other clients’ looks, girth or age. It isn’t that people don’t want to discuss free sex or cruising — but the constant Mean Girl-ing at the board reminding grown men that they might not be as cute or as young as the self-proclaimed In Crowd gets to be a bit much.

Haha, you are the mean-girl SolaceSoul.  Or you don’t realize that a high percentage of your comments are snarky, condescending, and bitchy?

I’ve never tried to put down your appearance, but you certainly have tried to take me down a notch or two, first by calling me a mediocre gringo, which backfired, and then speculating that I look like warmed over shit.  You then went on to mock my generosity as likely being worth an extra $12.

And yes, you do have a thing against whites, Americans, and so-called “gringos.” No doubt you hate that you can’t play the race card with me.

So what if I don’t like paying more than somebody else for the same goods/services.  Somehow to you that gets twisted into psychobabble about being insecure.

I take ownership of my snark. But I punch up, not down. I try not to insult or taunt the aging and the overweight. And I often call out those that imply (or directly state) that they are doing a favor for those in poorer nations by paying them a fair wage for their services.

Read your sentence again.  Is that what you really meant?

You might want to clarify what you wrote as it implies that you go to the saunas in Brazil to escort.

I have not seen where you previously wrote in other posts "I have said numerous times I go to the saunas for the same reason - - - escorts do."

Breakdown-

I go to the saunas to do the same thing the the guys who are not hot or black or escorts....

I go to Brazil for tons of reasons but definitely not to escort

I got to pay for sex with hot guys...Period

no...not anything like the U.S.......our only obligation is to sign up Selective Services.....I enlisted into the Army at 17. I've always said that we should have a mandatory Basic Training/Boot Camp at the minimum for everyone once they reach 18.
