TotallyOz
I have an old and very sentimental automobile in the USA and I was thinking of bringing it over to Thailand when I retire there. As the steering wheel is on the wrong side for Thailand, are there any legal issues or other issues in importing the vehicle?
biguyby
I've seen a classic 50's Chevrolet Impala (left hand drive) driving around in Pattaya for may years. TotallyOz
paulsf
Won't it be a case of driving Miss Daisy, and the boys will be doing most of the driving. TotallyOz
t0oL1
Aside from the hefty import fee, I hope it has a/c. Good luck. TotallyOz
mahjongguy
There's a Corvette I see on Jomtien Beach Road. Be great to have one but how can you drive it on the left without killing someone? TotallyOz
Travellerdave
Millions of cars from Britain have been driven on the European Continent and vice-versa. You just have to adapt. TotallyOz
mahjongguy
Sure, you can adapt in a civilized country. Here you've got motorbikes coming at you on or over the yellow line. My friend drives over to Laos but he always brings along a passenger who can lean out and tell him when it's safe to pass. TotallyOz
Thanks guys. I'll have to think about it but I don't see safety issues as I am slow and careful but you are right that motorcycles do make a difference. Years back there was talk of changing the location of the steering wheel in Thailand and the side of the road. I guess nothing will ever come of this. Guest
Years back there was talk of changing the location of the steering wheel in Thailand and the side of the road. I guess nothing will ever come of this. Thailand has already got that decision right & they drive on the same side of the road as their most successful neighbour, which is Malaysia.
