Prior to my recent trip I've nearly always stayed in gay hotels in BT or Sunee, more often than not at the Ambiance. However this time I stayed mostly at the Agate in Jomtien. The gay scene seems to have gravitated there in recent times and whilst there are no gogos, there are a multitude of boys of the type I prefer I.e. twinks. As has been pointed out already, transport from BT and Sunee is not a problem particularly if you are ok with walking and motor bikes. Of the two I much preferred the Agate Both of these appeared to be more expensive than Zing.

Pattaya is very much a nighttime place. During the day (say 4am to 6 pm) the entertainment areas are quiet and in effect sleeping. The best plan is to fall into line with this reality and conserve energy for when the town wakes up. My daytime scedule is often as follows; 9am say goodbye to my overnight boyfriend. Have a liesurely breakfast and then have some form of physical activity often gym or a swim. I like to sit on the beach reading a book or newspapers downloaded on my iPad observing the beach scene. Perhaps get into conversation with another chair occupant (on Dongtan this is likely to be a fellow gay sex tourist ). Later I retreat back to the hotel and try to sleep for a couple of hours. The Agate is certainly a quality hotel for a very reasonable price. Very comfortable rooms and a great breakfast served with a smile. They have made an effort with the decor with floors consisting of colourful tiles and there were works of art at intervals throughout the hotel. I sat by the larger of the two pools but it is not big enough for excercise swimming and the so-called fitness area is practically non-existent. The two welcome non-alcoholic drinks were really delicious. Of course for gays the proximity of the bars is a major reason to stay there and whilst it is not a 100%'gay hotel it certainly is very friendly. I will henceforth take glowing testimonials on tripadviser with a pinch of salt. They offered an inducement of a free drink for a favourable one.

I've only travelled once with a boy and that was a short trip to Koh Samet only a couple of hours from Pattaya. It was some years ago when I had longer stay of 6 weeks. Yes work is in progress to improve the seashore but it does not impact on the pleasure of sitting on the beach.
