Spa Sathorn is an M4M massage spa a short walk from Chong Nonsi BTS station. It doesn't seem to get reports on this forum. I got there about 6:30 on a weekday evening and there seemed to be about 8-12 or so guys milling about. I was ushered into the front room and the manager was very nice and promptly showed me a tablet with photos to select from. I think overall the guys are typical for the larger locally-focused shops - better looking than average, but not all necessarily model looks. Mostly more manly types. There was no price list or menu - which may simply be that there wasn't one in English or that they just don't have one, or that they just didn't show it to me. I knew what I wanted so I didn't really care. One hour oil massage 700 baht. No mention of minimum tip. The facilities are a tad bit run-down/basic, but the towels were clean and large and nice quality, water in the shower hot. Massage table in room with shower. Shower alone before and after. The masseur entered wearing a towel, he dropped before starting the massage. During the massage he was naked throughout and used all the appropriate opportunities to let his junk rest/brush against me when he was giving the massage, which I like and wish more guys did. Massage started with legs, as usual. Paid more attention to butt/glutes than most. Very nice. Flip over and move to "special services" were excellent. There's a review on travelgayasia.com that says the masseur was more interested in his own happy ending than the customer's - in may case I would say it was more like 50-50 equality on that front, which was nice. (At some of the more high-volume shops I think the masseur will often try not to come so he can quickly go back into the pool.) There was no mention of a minimum tip so I gave I think 1,200 (1,000 for a basic 1 hour massage plus extra because I liked the extra effort he put in.) Overall I liked the place. King Spa - Bottom Line: Skip It. In the process of updating my BKK massage review guide, which brought me back to King Spa, which is by the Bang Chak BTS station on the Sukhumwit line. Last year I had good experiences and good reports, and I've pretty much been a booster, although I recall one forum member reporting inconsistent experiences. My guy from last year is gone, so I booked someone different. Lest anyone think I only give positive reviews - this was not a particularly good experience. King Spa is a bit of a walk from the BTS station, but there's no traffic so it's quite pleasant. The house is fine. Massage room large, big mat on floor, shower in room. I was on time, but had to wait a bit for the masseur - typical BKK time. Not a big deal. If you don't book ahead based on pics you select from the guys in a room with a glass wall by the entrance. When I'm in "reviewing" mode I tend to be go-with-the flow, let's see how it goes when the masseur is calling the shots. In the first instance I think it's fair to judge a shop on their terms. I also usually start with 90 minute massages - just to see if the shop will fill the whole 90 minutes or do you often get cut short. Masseur wore sarong/pants throughout. The massage was ok, if a bit gentle, but I got the feeling pretty quickly that the guy wasn't a particularly well-trained or good massage (or maybe didn't care). Just basics. (BTW- lack of training or poor massage skills aren't the end of the world for me - enthusiasm will, for me, make up for a lot.) Everyone is entitled to bad day, and maybe a bad masseur (although this guy has been working there for a long time) - they're quick to respond to booking requests but can't be bothered to reply to complaints even with a simple "sorry you had a bad time, next time better" means a management problem as well as a masseur problem. Truth is had they responded to my note I probably would not have written this, but I would have stopped mentioning them as a place to go. So the good news is I get a pretty good story out of it, even if I do feel a but taken advantage of. The better news is that there are already so many other massage shops in town that I really like that I can cross King Spa off the list without worry, and direct my energy and budget to more satisfying places.

I think basic rules for Soi Twilight gogo bars are as discussed. Different topic of course regarding some guys featured in the "shows" or coyote dancers (in some bars) can't be offed until after they've done their job. And then of course there are the [in]famous non-offable guys at Scorpion. Arena is very up front, I think it's even on their website, that after the massage you and your masseur are free to do what you want. Other shops, particularly those with a smaller stable of guys, have different rules, and now that more and more shops have special outcall rates, you might expect to be required to pay that.

It may be that some bars treat some of the "salary" as coming from the off fee, or boys get bonuses based on offs - assuming they've complied with all the other rules. I don't know. Some boys have different arrangements. Dancers making more. But I think we're agreed that the if the boy doesn't show up when he's supposed to he has to pay the off fee (bar fine), and then doesn't turn around and get any of that back as his cut. So there may be different ways of thinking about it.

I do not think your info regarding guy go go bars is accurate, at least in Bangkok - I haven't checked recently but I did do a bit of a informal chat/investigation about this last year. At the Soi Twilight gogo bars, the boys definitely get 20 (maybe 30-40? I forget) baht for each boy drink. (they get a little slip of paper and get cashed out - I think weekly). Paulsf clued me in that although the bar/mamasans want to push you to buy an expensive drink to look cool in front of the boy you are chatting with, the boy may well be happier if you decline the suggestion to buy a drink and slip him a crisp note -- and you get to save some money. Agree they do not get a cut of the off fee. I think there are occasionally rumors that some mamasans may take a cut of the tip, and some may have special "under the table" arrangements with some boys in exchange for preferential recommendation - but the general rule is they do not get a cut of the boy's tip. There seems to be enough competition among the bars for talent that abusive practices like that don't seem to take root widely. Some if not all of the bars pay each of the boys a relatively modest payment for showing up and parading on stage (as long as they show up on an agreed schedule). This and the payment for the boy drink gets paid in arrears, so the bar has a little leverage over the boys. Last year X-Boys was paying people about 120 Baht I think. Also, as we all know, if a boy doesn't show up for work on his assigned work day (night) he has to pay the bar the off fee. Lengthy unauthorized absences or absences not on the best of terms can lead to punitive charges if the boy has to go back to work in the bar. Agree. I like to mix up the places I visit. Sometimes the smaller shops, which often involves picking from a book or tablet - and sometimes having to wait while the guy gets to the shop. But for me there is just something fun and thrilling about a place where you walk in and there are 30-40 simply gorgeous guys. 60% may be straight-top-only, but that still means there's plenty for everybody. The key to success in my mind is very up front communication at every stage and reasonable expectations. If you're used to finding guys on apps, then maybe more comfortable selecting from pictures at massage shops. [Note - someone could create an app to undo the affects of the filters the guys here use for their Hornet photos. It would darken the skin and put back the acne....] But avoiding shops just because you have to select from pictures does mean you may be depriving yourself of some star talent. I wouldn't put BKK My Hero in the top two. Selection is still pretty limited and at a minimum people need to be alerted to the crazy high "list" price. Until they officially publicize the "promotion" rate -- which is still high -- I don't think it's a must-go-to spot. Seems a little shady to me that sometimes they try to get away with the high price, until you ask or hem-and-haw, then they may (or may not) tell you about the special price "just for you." It is not the old Hero, and selection is much less than Arena, VCK (formerly V Club 7) or Prince. Also, note that Hero specializes in hunky guys around 30s+/-. If OP is shy, at Arena the proximity of the guys can be a little awkward, particularly if asking the manager who has the big cock. Also, worth reminding newbies that at Arena the minimum tip includes only a hand job (and massage and shower). Anything more the guy will expect more.
