Neighboring countries compete with Thailand for foreign retirees
KeepItReal replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
It's okay. You don't have to visit. I will take care of corrupting those handsome young men all by myself! It's a burden, but I shoulder it well!! ๐๐ -
I see. Of course Al Jazeera and The Times of India is famous for their western propaganda. ๐

Talk about desperate - have you seen Putin sweat this past week? Running around the country, trying to raise support. It is a shame so many people have been killed to prove what we already knew...the Russian war machine is made of paper. It turns out the big red Russian bear has no claws. Their tanks have thin armor, their rockets only strike on target 33% of the time, their troops carry paintball padding as body armor and their much hailed stealth fighter is less stealthy than an F/A 18 Hornet that dates from the previous millennium. Ukraine has been kicking their butts with previous generation equipment...just think what current generation NATO equipment would do to them. It makes one wonder if their nukes are even a real threat... which is probably why everyone is ignoring all those "red line" threats and the red line keeps getting pushed.

Neighboring countries compete with Thailand for foreign retirees

Sure, there is crime. But there is crime everywhere. I compared Cape Town with a similar sized city in the USA, Memphis TN, Baltimore MD and found the crime rate comparable. Like most cities, there see neighborhoods you should avoid and some local knowledge will bring down the risk of being impacted by crime significantly. -
Neighboring countries compete with Thailand for foreign retirees

I am broadening my thinking and reconsidering if I should look beyond my planned 2nd home in Asia. Frankly, I really enjoyed my time in Cape Town, South Africa. Tax laws are fairly friendly and property is relatively cheap while the dollar is strong. Watching some YouTube videos about how it works and experience from those who have done so at the moment. -
In case you missed it... Still a good idea to get vaccinated if you are not. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2849873/experts-warn-mpox-poses-serious-threat-to-thailand

Two killed as Thai actorโs jet ski crashes into long-tail boat
KeepItReal replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
I am surprised the long tailed boats aren't required to carry lights in dark conditions. During a recent visit to Pennsylvania-Dutch country I notices that even the horse and buggies the Amish use are requires to carry lights and reflectors when using public roads. -

Thank you! Interesting that they are looking for GMAT scores too - I thought that once I had a masters they would no longer care about those since these scores were a requirement for a masters enrollment.

That is true - I know a number of poor finance professoes. But I think you will appreciate that my masters capstone project focused on the economics of the tea trade! It didn't make me financially rich but certainly enriched my understanding and appreciation! ๐

I have no interest in a legal degree - I am looking at a doctorate in finance to build on my masters in finance and economics.

Procurement is usually in the top 5 areas of fraud and corruption - ask any auditor. ๐ค -

My time in Thailand has been mainly visiting/recreation thus far. Since I plan to retire in Thailand in a few years, I am concerned that I will grow bored after a hectic working life. So was thinking that I may take on additional studies - pursue a doctorate program in Thailand perhaps. Does anyone here have any experience with higher learning institutions in Asia? 1. Is Thailand's universities a good (and relatively cheap) choice? 2. Is it difficult to enroll? 3. Are cute teaching assistants available (just kidding!) I'd appreciate any thoughts you may have!
