This is a very cavalier statement to make. Perhaps not afraid, but one certainly needs to be careful and vigilant especially as one gets older (and/or have been drinking) and one's reflexes may not be as quick as they used to be. You need to be careful not only when walking on quiet streets at night but also in crowded places such as clubs and markets, even more so as you don't understand the language, can't intuitively pick up the nuances of what's happening around you and your social circle is comprised of people who aren't exactly law abiding or known for their scruples. Also, bear in mind that the enforcement of local laws more often than not works against foreigners. On a related note, the ubiquitous and seemingly normalised commercial sex industry in Thailand may be packaged like Disneyland - which tends to lull a lot of visitors into complacency and make them throw caution into the wind - but make no mistake, there's a huge underbelly that comes with it.

From what I've read and seen on social media, The Venue, M2M, Candy, M and Sunee Bars have regular (daily?) shows. There's another one where vinapu went on a wild goose chase looking for a performer last year - the name of the bar always escapes me. Do all the shows start at the same time or are they staggered so that we can take in more than one show in one evening? Which are the ones that have appealed to you?

Agreed 💯. I'm trained in mental and men's sexual health for my volunteer work and I've seen clients with ruined teeth from long-term meth use and compromised cognitive and emotional function. They become addicted to it and the "chem" becomes more important than the "sex". Session or sesh refers to just that: long session (which can last for days), short session or simply a session. Smoke means to smoke the drug using a bong or some other contraption; shoot means to have it injected intravenously for a quick rush. Believe it or not there are doctors doing this and it's hard to spot who's a user and who's not as they come from all walks of life. Quite a few are regular, fit-looking, gymbod guys!

It's funny that you observed this because I find that they act and sound the similar too. They're into the same gym trends, listen to the same type of music, visit the latest "in" exotic holiday spots, imbibe the same drugs and indulge in similar outrageous, daredevil, "adventure" sports. It's as if they're performing a role from the same gay playbook. To be fair, the Asian guys who attend the White and Songkran parties are not that much different. It's ironic that a group that used to be defined by its creativity and individuality is now producing cookie cutter clones.

Interesting bit of gay Bangkok trivia @Patanawet. The owners were gay and wanted to change a successful gay-themed disco into a straight one. 🙄 Hmmm, I don't suppose they actually banned gay customers - how would they screen them? - but used themes and advertising that would appeal to straights. Still didn't make sense as according to you the disco was already drawing in straight customers. Or was this during the time when the AIDs epidemic was coming to the surface and seen as the gay man's disease?
