I am aghast every time I read in the news that even our civilized countries discuss if the right to perform your religion is more important than human rights (circumcision) or animal protection (kosher slaughtering). For me, it's no question that the right to perform your religion has lowest priority. I hope one day religion will get the place it deserves: being equivalent to supporting a football team or being fan of musician.

I would guess in civilized/secular countries you can get married and buried or cremated without any involvement of the church. Where and how and how expensive and with or without church, it's all up to you. (I once read about a couple in Germany, they took bus to registry office, answered "Yes" to the relevant question, and then walked back home. No money other the absolute minimum, no church.)

In addition to dirty floors in lesser visited places as mentioned above, stone gets damn hot in the sunlight. In many cases when walking around bare feet in the outside area, I have to keep moving or stand in the shade. Furthermore, my feet can be quite dirty after a day walking in the dust, so removing shoes does not improve the situation much.

In addition to wearing cheap flip-flops that are not worth stealing (unless someone else stole your shoes and you don't want to walk home bare feet), I sometimes wear different styles on both feet. That will absolutely confuse any thief (and confuses even friends). That came when one flip-flop was close to breaking, and then I found a single flip-flop for that side that fitted.

There was a communal storage room with racks for shoes, with many people going in and out. Standing with white shirt and black trousers is the thief putting on my friend's shoes. I had a 100 Baht slip twice in central Bangkok, and a scratch card minutes after at a 7/11 just 100 m further from the one where I got the slip, because they had no slips. It all doesn't make much sense.

Spent 13 in Suphanburi and 14 in Kanchanaburi sightseeing with a friend with a car. If I hadn't know, I wouldn't have noticed that it's Songkran. Don't recall any water splashing, no traffic problems, some hotels booked out in Kanchanburi. 15 and 16 largely stay in, in Bangkok. On 16 evening out by bus, no problems. Today 17 we (same friend from 13 and 14 with car) did sightseeing trip in Chonburi province that was supposed to end in Bang Saen (sand castle festival). However approaching Sukhumvit road in Bang Saen, there was Songkran mayhem/chaos/pandemonium, getting to the beach might have taken hours, and then where to park, and how to stay dry? My friend refused and turned around and we went back to Bangkok. As the sandcastle festival seems to be always on Wan Lai, it will always be the same and the only way to experience it without traffic jam will be to arrive before and stay in hotel in walking distance?

Some days ago, a friend had his shoes (expensive, 4900 Baht) stolen at Wat Pho. Footage from security camera shows the thief in operation, who must have experience to choose expensive shoes. I wonder what the resale value of stolen used shoes is. Wat Pho supplied a pair of shoes so my friend could get home.

I walk a lot in Bangkok, but for the distances you mention, I would uses bus or taxi. Do the headphones block sound from around? That could get you into dangerous situations, not hearing what goes on around you. I'm not sure if I understand that correctly, but a 100 Baht tip for 1 hour oil massage is at the very low end of expectations in tourist places. There are many Tesco Lotus around Bangkok, without specifying which once, this information has little value. R3 sauna is near Fortune Town shopping center (there is only one Fortune Town). (my underline) An awkward and time consuming process which I had to endure once. The Royal Palace will not let you in in shorts and tank tops. In other temples, there is often a board with a note about polite dress, but I often see Thais in shorts, sometimes basecaps, so that does not seem to be a problem. I get sunburn easily, when I go out in daytime I use an umbrella or cover my body completely, even wear gloves. I look like one of these women in burka. I don't know how sensitive you are to second hand smoke, but I am. In Silom Soi 4 outside seating you will be subjected to a lot. Some gogo bars are non-smoking, others allow smoking. DJ station has smoking room. GOD allows smoking inside, and customers make ample use of it. Regarding street food: I was never able to trace my stomach problems to a particular place or dish I had, but reading on the forums, it seems to be rather the more expensive places that can have a hygiene problem. Checking on map, I have walked past many times. And as I like fish in lemon sauce (but only little chili), I will try it there some day.

Now that you say it, I have only seen stalls that offer either khao man gai or kha moo, but never both. Only this one experience. I will not try again on my own, maybe if someone with experience shows me where and how to eat it.

I thought Ka Moo ขาหมู is pig leg? I had it once (on a Khao Man Gai stall that had run out of chicken, on South Pattaya Wat Chai Market), and didn't like it at all, pure jelly-like fat.

Just when I thought I have figured it out, I got a slip with 100 Baht for 1-2-call in a 7/11 in Uthai Thani! Whereas elsewhere (see previous posts) I was told no slips at all or minimum 300 Baht.

Pure greediness by hotel management, fleecing some unsuspecting tourists. Similar charging guests for WiFi. Should not be supported. Same for displaying prices in menus in restaurant with a footnote that they are subjected to VAT and service charge. In civilized countries, such practices are outlawed. Another thing to look out for is minimum age. Malaysia hotel has introduced a minimum age of 20 years for guests to rooms (this is merely hotel policy, not based on any law), I don't know other hotels that have 20 years minimum age, but 18 years for obvious reasons. In Thai hotels, it does not seem to matter how many people you bring in. I had three cases (Pattani, Nakon Sawan, Uthai Thani) where I paid for a room with double bed, and three people slept in it. No questions from staff. I guess when the Thais travel, they will stay with a whole family in a room that is designed for two guests.

Tourist visa for Germans is 60 days, can be extended by 30 days at immigration for 1900 Baht. Visa free entry is 30 days for Germans. For Singaporeans, different durations for tourist visa and visa free entry might apply.
