Michael's Trip Report 2004 - First Visit To Thailand
ChristianPFC replied to TotallyOz's topic in Gay Thailand
Thank you for sharing your report and praise you for mentioning prices. Assuming 200 Baht drinks and 300 Baht off fees were the average in 2004, and 350 and 600 in 2015, I calculate an inflation rate of 5.2% per year for drinks and 6.5% per year for off fee. -
I'm a paper person, if I receive a letter and the sender dies, I still have the letter. I would apply the same to digital messages. In addition, there is not even a note, if I hadn't found out by chance (exchanged messages and profile deleted and all messages gone on the same day), I would have searched for profile and message until I turn mad. On gayromeo and the forums, messages remain even if the sender deletes his profile or gets banned.

Never used Uber and can't see me using it in the future. Where I travel, it's always faster to hail a passing taxi. But friends swear by it and even claim it's cheaper than regular taxi (how can that be when regular taxis have been complaining for years prices are too low?), so I had a look at their pricing scheme: https://www.uber.com/cities/bangkok UberX Base fare ฿25 + ฿1 per minute + ฿4.50 Per kilometer which is indeed cheaper than taxi: http://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/learning-from-news/449490/taxi-fares-go-up-in-bangkok-today regular taxi 35 (base fare and 1st kilometer) + 2 per minute when slower than 6 km/h + 5.5 per kilometer (rising for longer distances) But I'm a cash person and avoid digital and electronics wherever possible, so I will continue hailing down taxis, even it is 10 or 20 Baht more expense per month than Uber. Weird recent experience: I was in a taxi and after about 100 m, taxi driver asked me if I could change to the empty taxi behind us because he just got a booking from Uber. That was no problem for me, and he didn't charge me (then I would have protested). Language note: Uber is from German "über" which means "over, more than, excess of"

I did not notice above average number of cute boys in Malls, otherwise I would go more often. (But on Klong Toey market, which is the opposite: outside, therefore no aircon, dirty, but cute boys in large numbers so I go whenever possible to buy fruit there.) I don't spend much time in Malls (go less than once per week, and if I go it's for eating at their foodcourt or as a meeting point; very very rarely do I buy something in a mall, about once per year, at the moment I remember I bought a phone and two pairs of trousers in 2013).

From experience with grindr and hornet: different program, same shit! I wrote about them here: http://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2014/12/what-fuck.html and can now extend: Why the hell does hornet have 150 MB data in cache? Hornet app on my phone remains total crap. I wrote about spamming my phone's memory; not just that, I have to pay for it was well! When I open hornet and look at a few profiles, I get SMS for my data connection "you have used 10 Baht today already...". Third and further pictures load very slowly, on a friend's tablet as well (so it's not my phone!). Starting at such a poor level, introduction of hornet for computer (works without problem here) deserves praise! However, now there seems to be a problem with requesting private photos. I had two more cases where a boy deleted his profile and all chat was gone as well.

Gaybutton, you should go out more! When I walk around, I often see homeless people with nothing more than they have on their body. Or after sunset, people scavenging piles of waste for recyclables (adults, not in tourist areas, whereas in Siem Reap even children right in Pub Street). However when it comes to slums in Bangkok, it's not as bad as it looks at first. They all have running water and electricity.

You are late to the party, Bruce, everyone is home already! (But I see in last post you now are up-to-date.) I have some of Out-in-Thailand's last issue (April 2015), I recently gave one to an 78-year old friend and told him to keep it for 20 years, then it will be a collector's item.

Burma is on my list of places to go, but with recent visa free entry to Indonesia and Vietnam, these two come first. And then there is the hotel price issue, if I can't get a room for under 20 USD at similar standard and availability as in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia, I will wait! I vaguely remember, I read somewhere mocys are banned in Burma for individual transport (only for army and police).

Do you remember timmberty? He once told me "I don't post there (sawatdeenetwork) any more" when in fact he has been banned!

Can you elaborate on the sauna in Savannakhet? I have been to basic mixed gender saunas in Vientiane and Luang Prabang, out of total 4 visits combinded I chatted with one cute boy in Luang Prabang in the sauna.
-
Can you elaborate on boys from BBB? I had an eye on 12, 23, 80 in August. How much did you tip your boys? Were they in a hurry to leave? Was there an bad attitude?

Nice Boys or Power Boys is usually my first port of call when I am in Sunee, usually have a good time there, only rarely disappointmented (low number of boys, but then I walk out and go elsewhere). Eros is second (like to watch sleaze, but most of their long time staff does not appeal to me).

This is only the second time I learn of requiring payment upfront (after from Bucky on SGT) in Pattaya, and charging more than usual in addition. The short-lived Fuse (opposite Soi Twilight in basement of Wallstreet building, did last only a few months, then Bangkok Bounce, now Zip Club gay disco) had a similar policy of charging entry/drink price at the door, I didn't go in. Number and type of boys in Nice Boys (and many other bars as well) can vary considerably. I would not order a drink without having a look, and if number of boys is too low (unless there is a stunner), I make an excuse and leave. Try this: ask doorman if they have a pink unicorn in the bar. Wouldn't be the least surprised if he answered "yes".

So, I bit the bullet and went to Dreamboys tonight
ChristianPFC replied to floridarob's topic in Gay Thailand
Arrogant assholes, as I said before! But fortunately, there are other places where prices are lower and attitude is better. Some posters assume the boys can get one or two offs per night. What I heard is the opposite, boys in Dream boys complain about lack of off (no wonder at these prices). -
From my August visit http://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2015/08/pattaya-august-2015.html I have seen several boys who are half African half Thai. There is one other in Pattaya, supposed to work in Toy boys, didn't see him. One boy in Good Boys looks half African as well. There are/were three in Soi Twilight over the last two years: a fatty in Hotmale, another fatty in Fresh boys, and a slim one with big dick in X-Size (gone now, anyway mercenary which I don't like: in taxi negotiating price up). And a straight boy in my neighborhood whom I'm hitting on. I like brown skin, and these half African boys are a real turn-on for me! Let us know how it went, I'm interested!

In BKK now... GoGo bars (and boys) price crazy??
ChristianPFC replied to floridarob's topic in Gay Thailand
Nature boys was low on boys in 2013 and 2014 (not warranting 150 Bath drink price when you can get more boys in Super A for 100), but on my recent visit and according to others, now busy enough to warrant a repeat visit soon. A little slice of Eros in Bangkok, how wonderful! Individual underwear, but dicks come out quickly. -
Wat Hua Lampong, a short (5 min?) walk from Soi Twilight. Nearest MRT station is Sam Yan (entrance is just in front of the wat), whereas MRT Hua Lampong and Hua Lampong railway station are km away. Beside live cows, there is Ruam Gatanyu, a society that collects bodies of people without relatives, and you can make merit by donating for coffins which are displayed (empty). There is a Chinese shrine as well with so many burning incense stick, it borders on chemical warfare.

Not posting prices clearly visible outside is psychology. By going in and asking for price or menu, you have already half committed to that place. Even worse for markets without prices displayed: overcharging tourists! (Jumping from bars to restaurants). Restaurants often have a menu outside so you can peruse it. Most Soi Twilight bars have price posted outside. I prefer places that have price clearly posted outside. I was in Paradise massage two days ago (same building as Mosaic apartment, towards Tuk-Com, mixed gender staff), ground floor massage room, but only a curtain as separation to hallway.

Erawan waterfall is accessible by public transport, however there are only a few buses per day and when I went the bus was crowded (had to stand or sit on chairs most of the trip). The waterfall and national park is similar to others I've been to, just better advertised and on organized tours. Thai for "it hurts" is เจ็บ jèp [to be] hurt ; injured ; in pain http://www.thai2english.com/dictionary/1290129.html (although the pronunciation is too long, the e is much shorter; watch Thai porn where the bottom asks the top to go in slower because it hurts to get pronunciation right)

In BKK now... GoGo bars (and boys) price crazy??
ChristianPFC replied to floridarob's topic in Gay Thailand
Classic is ground floor, upstairs are Hotmale, Dream Boys, X-Size (forgot X-Size in my previous post, price displayed outside). I think it was Michal who reported the German manager of Dream Boys wouldn't reduce drink price even for him (generous tipper, multiple visits with company, order many drinks) because he has plenty of other customer who pay. -
Regarding jumping from "Asian" (in the op) to "Chinese", this is justified by statistics (number of Chinese visitors to Thailand). I have read that some bars in Soi Thaniya don't let Whites in, only Japanese. When walking through Thaniya, ladies don't even look at me. Ignoring white customers in Hero is news to me. However, every time I go to Super A (which is every other month), the boys shortly look up from their phones and then go back to playing with them. I have to wait for another customer to come in to see the boys standing on stage. (That is partially because I only have one drink, don't buy drinks for boys and rarely tip. A vicious circle: boys don't pay attention to me because I haven't offed a boy for a long time, I don't off a boy because they don't pay attention to me. But Super A remains best value for money in Bangkok, and one day I might take one off.) I have never to Prince but might go some day. A friend reported (Mar 2015) there is one boy who demands 2000 Baht minimum tip because he has big dick. Such attitude is a bad start in my eyes. I want the boy to thank me for choosing him.

I'm not a beach person either (go to beach on 1 out of 20 days spent in Pattaya), but if I go, I want to sit in shade in a deck chair and maybe have some food (no, skip the food, eating in deck chair is uncomfortable, but it's good to know you can get food). There should be enough space to have deck chairs and umbrellas and free space (sand and sun) on a public beach. There is a beach in Bang Saen popular with locals where I estimate 20,000 (twenty thousand) deck chairs (sample count of rows, columns and concessions), wonder what is going on there. If it wasn't for drinking and washing, I wouldn't touch water at all!

ChristianPFC replied to floridarob's topic in Gay Thailand
Price posted outside: X-Boys, Fresh Boys, Hotmale, Dream Boys, Tawan. Classic has price on right top corner of the board (?) that doorman shows you. Not sure for Screwboys, I think there is no price posted. Asking for menu is a good idea. Some places have hot tea, which is a nice change from orange juice or pineapple juice (which I usually order: I don't drink alcohol and can get water for free at home). -
Well written, entertaining and I even learned something new: Will see if I spot Vit at Scandic and if moment is suitable might go for him. (So far, the 1500 upfront has deterred me. In normal massage, I can decide in the course of the massage if I want more and adjust tip, but not here.)

In BKK now... GoGo bars (and boys) price crazy??
ChristianPFC replied to floridarob's topic in Gay Thailand
Can you and others share in which bar you negotiated drink to which price? Here my recent experience (October with German friend B and his Thai boyfriend N): Classic boys from 350 to 300 (in May ? we tried 250 but settled for 300). Screwboys wouldn't go down from 300 (similar report on Sawatdeenetwork), so we didn't go in. This is usually not my style; when a price is posted I either take it or leave it.* If the late previous owner of Sawatdeenetwork hadn't written that he negotiates prices, I would never have gotten the idea (that was around 2011/2012, when I first got a discount 250 instead of 300 at Hotmale). But at those outrageous prices, you have to let them know what you think, and if necessary walk away. *And when no price is posted, this is a pretty sure sign someone wants to overcharge you, especially if a pocket calculator is lying nearby. All markets where locals buy have prices posted, markets for tourists usually not.
