Jennny, the proprietor of Madrid, confirmed to Floridarob and me tonight that she was careful to take all the historical photos and momentous from the Patpong location before moving to new digs.Amd she said to tell Vinapu she’s looking forward to preparing Vinapu’s favorite pizza (shallots) upon his much anticipated return.

Is that in 2029?

Glad and amazed she remembers my favorite selection. Not only cherry tomato and shallots pizza but also Chang in the bottle, no glass, proletarian way

Are the old photo's on display, or can you ask to see them? As would be interesting to see if my dad is in any of them.

Not in display in restaurant but safely secured elsewhere.

There’s some artwork inspired by the restaurant’s name, giving the place the feel of Madrid.

This is Jenny with painting of her mother who ruled over the Madrid during those early days.

Thanks for the update. Will ensure to make a trip when next up in BKK and enquire further.

And the pizza pics.... she doesn't do the jumbo pizza at the new location, which I miss, being a size queen 🙄

@TotallyOz was the one that introduced me to Madrid, it wouldn't have been a place I'd walk into judging from the storefront appearance and location.

Oh, she also said to call to make sure she is there and open as she travels from time to time.

Reader treated me to dinner there, what a guy. Then since we both like to walk, 25-30 minutes up Silom with a detour on Soi 6 to look at the massage shops 😉

MADRID: OPEN OR CLOSED?

On my two last visits to Bangkok, Madrid was closed - both in mid-September and again when I visited in the first and second weeks of October. On both trips, I made a couple of visits to check whether it was open, both at lunch time and at dinner time. Additionally, calls to Madrid said that the number was no longer in service. That raised the real concern that Madrid had shut down.

At the start of this year, Jenny had mentioned that she was considering closing Madrid, as she was thinking about moving to Hong Kong to join her husband who has started working there. In May, when I asked her whether that was still the plan, she said no, probably not, but that she might go on regular trips to see him instead. So, it is entirely possible that she was merely away during my visits to Bangkok in September and October, and that's what I hope.

My last visit to check on Madrid was somewhere around the 9th of 10th of October. If anyone has been there since then and can confirm that it is still open, that would be fab. If they are still closed though, I would have real reason to be worried about them reopening. Anyone?

all I can say  is that at end of  August i visited twice , first time it was closed indeed but few days later I had better luck and enjoyed my , as Jenny calls "as usual" ( Chang and shallots/ cherry tomato pizza).

I'd be devastated if she closed for good, God forbid.

Fascinating vdo @vinapu - thanks for posting. There have been threads here that have included the history of Patpong and in particular it being the centre of CIA and Air America activity in the USA's illegal and horrific wars in the South East Asia. But seeing the vdo makes it all much more clear.

Then I always go over to eat at another old staple of the PP area, and that is LeBouchon on Patpong 2.  Down on the left past the Pink Panther bar.  Very good French food, in a very comfortable atmosphere.

Le Bouchon hasn't been in Patpong for a year or two.
Now it has moved to the original(?) Babylon building on the corner and with an outside terrace.. Same excellent food and open lunchtimes for reasonably priced set meals.

On Mon20oct2025 Bangkok I was nearby and wanted to have dinner in Madrid, but found it closed without notice.

Before I take a taxi or go on a longer walk, I would call in all cases to make sure they are open.

Looks you had bad luck as according to my spies Oct 20 was last day of it being closed.
