In fact, if you go to 7/11 opposite it from 1am to 2am, you might see guys from bars who finished work. Most of them will happily accept an invitation to Raya hotel room! ditto if you go before bars open as boys often shop there or eat on the stairs. On last trip I met that way Lao guy who was sitting with me in Freshboys night before and I could easily off him if I did not have boy booked already. Quote

For uninitiated , Nishitetsu is whole 50 meters from soi 4. Few years ago waiting for green light on South Pattaya and Second Road intersection I was witness of two Japanese looking girls asking taxi ' how much it will be to Wat Chai ", he said 200 without blinking an eye and they accepted ride which lasted probably 25 seconds at most. I once for fun accepted 20 baht lift by motorsai from Baan Silom to Silom, 2 minutes walk but at least I knew what I was doing . so bottom line is I agree with you ( as always ) Quote

I really like the sofa at bed. Maybe I will stay there in future trip. I don't mind at al. Hotel information is there for all to read on the top. We put that sofa to good use on quite a few occasions , believe you me. I really liked that entry by card without prying eyes on reception watching who I'm dragging with me . It can be done both from street and back ( parking) side . I need to try their family room. Studio seemed adequate but much smaller than my room, just like Ibis Styles rooms size wise.  Quote
asntp Posted yesterday at 04:24 AM Posted yesterday at 04:24 AM I stayed in the Raya on Suriwong on my last trip. It's a nice hotel for its convenient location and relatively large rooms. However, I found the threshold between the bathroom and the bedroom a bit treacherous. It is very tall and matches the floor. Several times I nearly tripped and was at risk of falling on my face. Finally, I put a towel on the threshold so that it would be obvious and easier to avoid. It seemed to me a design flaw that could be easily remedied.   vinapu 1 Quote

Cars are fairly careful. I try to wait for a local to cross, safety in numbers! vinapu and jimmie50 2 Quote
zoomomancs Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago My advice is to look in all directions on Bangkok's major roads. I have seen three accidents at that part of Surawong near the night market. My lucky escape was noticing a truck reversing on Silom as I crossed. Quote
Travelingguy Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago What do you call someone who looks in one direction on a one way street?  An optimist. vinapu 1 Quote
hank75 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Recently walked past a nice new Voco right next door to Le Meridien with official opening date listed online as this month, December 2025. Starting rate around 4000 baht which seems fair for the comfortable room, well equipped gym and impressive pool, if the photo mock ups do not lie. Down side is the basic room size seems small, 25 sqm. I played around with some hotel booking sites and while the rates spike over Christmas and New Year, they fall back to 4000 baht after high season ends.       vinapu 1 Quote
vinapu Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago looks very nice but with those rates I can't envision myself being guest there unless we will have another pandemic with related dramatic drop in prices Quote

I think it’s pleasant to have another “5 star” offering which is more reasonable than Le Meridien but still with full gym and pool facilities. Value for money I agree with your pick of Hotei, and also other Japanese hotel like Nishetetsu. I like the small touches, efficient layouts and after googling Hotei I’d quite like to try the Japanese inspired room where mattress is on the floor. Seems conducive to a number of things! vinapu 1 Quote

Or maybe just official hotel web photos. The first two pics are of the “Grand” room which is a handsome 39 sqm, and depending on which site you’re looking on (in this case the official hotel website) can be booked for 4,500 baht per night inclusive of tax, so no other hidden costs. This is of course after the Christmas and New Year peak. 25 sqm “Deluxe” is the third pic I posted. It appears some Deluxe rooms even have access to a small balcony and two chairs which is very helpful for those that are particular to fresh air, or boys that smoke. 200-300 baht more. So I guess you can pick if you want a balcony or more space. This is a big selling point for me and it’s hard to find rooms with balconies in Bangkok, even down riverside where you’d think they’d be de facto but alas no.
