Hosts bars in bangkok

Seems like more and more hosts bars/clubs opened up in bangkok, maybe catering for local thais and most of them have social media presence. Below are a few that have popped up in my social media.

Anyone has any experience visiting them? Similar type of clubs are in pattaya as well. Would love to hear trip reports if any.

I’ll ask the question a different way to hopefully obtain a sensible response. How do they differ from say the go go bars like Dream Boy, Good Boy etc.

They're essentially bars with hosts to keep you company and entertained as you drink. It's similar to the karaoke bars with female hostesses. Their main and primary business is to sell alcohol, not sex. The hosts make their money from the number of drinks you buy them and some of the popular guys can easily get a hundred drinks a night (that's 20,000 to 40,000 Baht per night depending on the bar). The host bar concept comes from Japan, I believe.

I've been to several of the host bars in Bangkok at the invitation of Thai friends but rarely stay longer than a hour as I don't drink and my tolerance for fools, excess and banal conversation diminishes as I get older. On the other hand, I might feel differently if I did drink. 😅 Broadly speaking, I'd say the guys in these host bars are better looking than the ones working in the go go bars. A lot have had cosmetic surgery or at the very least a nose job. Also, heavy filters are used in their promotional material on social media and they may look a bit different in person.  Mostly Thai is spoken at these venues with Chinese a distant second at some bars.

I'd say the clientele are mostly women (60%?), ranging from bar girls to social media influencers, online sellers and well-heeled professionals in their 30s and 40s. The composition might change depending on location and time of year (Songkran, New Year, etc). I've rarely seen anyone over 50 (but don't know about the host bars in Pattaya). Quite a few Thai women married to older farang too out to spend their husbands' money with hot, young, Thai guys. These people have got money to burn and on top of drinking themselves to death, gambling and sex, love to indulge in that other Thai passion - showing off. I laugh when I read silly farang whose experiences are limited to Patpong and Pattaya  say that Thai customers don't spend. They spend, and often obscenely. Farang just don't know about it. There are bidding wars (for your favourite host), drinking games, money garlands for the hosts, prizes for contests...all manner of ways to make the customer part with his money.

Two muscle host club i know is fake and changsa in bangkok. There is another one in pattaya called big banana club that have more my type.

It does seems to target thai local, and if sex is strictly off the table, im also not interested lol

Same here.  If none of the hosts are able to be taken off for some fun, then it doesn't interest me all that much.  Cannot see the value of paying money just to have someone sit with me for a drink.  Just my take on the situation.

Speaking about all that paying guys to drink, idea which I don't like.

On Wednesday I went to Prince, basically to reaquaint myself with Bangkok princely way. One of boys on display was guy I recalled from Jupiter so selection was easy. While  going through stamp collection we talked and I asked him about reason to move. His answer was he couldn't stand all that driking forced on him day after day.

Agreed, my time in Thailand is limited.  I can find better uses for my resources.  Like eating banana fritters at Foodland (I may have become obsessed).  Or walk in Lumpini park, Or a massage,  or Gogo bar,

If I want someone to sit with me for a drink, I can go to pool bar and buy bartender a drink for much less.  I usually have a soda and am ok if he does too.  A bar boy who was between games had a soda….

Although, ive had heard guys from fake club do went with customer after bar closes. As with any working guys, things can happen if there is mutual attraction, physical or monetary. Perhaps, its much easier to "date" one of the guys in host bars than say random guys we found in restaurants or construction site? Hehe.

I stopped pursuing my beach chair attendance at pattaya when he is attached, sadly to a girl lol

The basic concept may have come from Japan but if you are used to Jomtien host bars, don't go anywhere near one in Japan. The reason is twofold. First the best known Tokyo ones are in Shinjuku's Kabukicho district where they are virtually all for young girls. More importantly, you'll need several credit cards and thousands in the bank - of $$ not ¥! The whole point of these bars is not to get close to a girl outside the confines of the bar and not to have sex with the customers - although both occasionally happen. The aim is to develop a relationshp with a girl who will come back to spend time and oodles of cash on booze with you as often as possible. As a host on one youtube video says "These bars are creating Disneyland for customers and they end up believing they need to revolve their whole lives around this Disneyland."

This vdo below has been included in these columns before. So it is slightly out of date. It features the No. 1 host in Japan about 7 years ago, but the principle is exactly the same today. The video starts off with the host arriving at his bar in a new white Lamborghini, a present from a customer. Cost? Probably around US$370,000! He makes tons of cash every month from commissions on the huge mark-ups on premium booze. One 19-year old girl who technically cannot drink alcohol in Japan gladly tells the camera that the most expensive bottle of booze she bought in the bar was a Magnum Decanter of Louis XIII Cognac. For this she paid US$110 - in cash!

I posted in another thread about a new host club called Oasis. Around 5 Jupiter & ex Jupiter boys went to work there. Last week I saw in the videos they were back on stage at Jupiter. Unsure if they couldn’t make money there. Some boys can’t appeal to the host club audience, as there is a specific look. But others just can’t stomach the endless drinking.

I was also told that boys often start the night at Jupiter or the other bars, and if they don’t get takers, they move over to the host bars which only get busy around 11 or midnight.

Oasis made the Jupiter boys take off their shirts to show off their abs, I wonder if it was because regular host bar boys don’t have as good physiques as those who have to parade in underwear nightly If I can find the video again I will post it.
