mauRICE Posted yesterday at 05:08 PM Posted yesterday at 05:08 PM I'm curious as to what time people start their evenings for a night out on the town and bar-hopping? Does it start with an early dinner and you guys go on from there? I try not to eat after 7 PM which means I have dinner relatively early following my diurnal activities, then return to my hotel or apartment to rest, shower, before setting out again around 9.30 or 10.00 PM. I try to look presentable and dress appropriately even at the most humble of venues but these days shorts and t-shirts seem de rigueur at the gay establishments. It seemed to me that I was often among the latecomers at the bars and occasionally ended up not having enough time to go to the venues that I wanted or see the shows that I wanted to see. What about you all? jimmie50, floridarob and vinapu 3 Quote

I usually start 7pm except if I'm doing a all nighter ...eg going to dance at DJ station 👯♂️🕺🏿,then I will go later maybe 11pm I have found out you need to plan your sleep / recovery if you do that If I know I'm going to DJ station on Friday night ,I won't sleep Thursday night or have maybe little sleep ,then I will sleep Friday afternoon ready for the all nighter Friday night 👯♂️ I don't drink as much nowadays because my recovery is not as good ...not easy growing old I also try to eat carbs before going out ,bananas etc and take a Berocca vitamin drink 💊 mauRICE and vinapu 1 1 Quote

To be honest, not even sure where they are located in Denver. If I go out here, it is usually for dinner with friends or to a show. When I was in Bangkok, I tried to eat between 5 and 7pm. I don't like to eat any later than that. Then I would go back to the hotel to relax and freshen up. The night I went to Moonlight I got there after the show had started, so probably after 10pm. I went earlier...around 9pm when I went to Hotmale and was the only customer for awhile. I actually preferred going early, so will probably follow that routine when I return next month. As for attire, I am almost always in shorts and Hawaiian shirts. Unless I had some important meeting at school, dress codes for students and staff in California were very lax or non-existent. Most of the staff attire was very casual. Probably 95% of the time I was in shorts and the floral shirts. That is pretty much what I wear when in Thailand, too. Because of the cold and sometimes harsh winters in Denver I have had to adjust that long pants, sweaters and long-sleeved shirts. Hate it! vinapu, mauRICE and pong2 2 1 Quote
Popular Post macaroni21 Posted 14 hours ago Popular Post Posted 14 hours ago I don't know why I am even replying to this thread since I don't see myself doing "nights on the town" anymore. I don't do this in my home city -- never been much of a nightbird -- but in line with the OP's framing, I shall speak only of Bangkok. I'm not much of a drinker, and if possible I try to get dinner before 7pm. If I have to eat after that (e.g. if my massage session ends at 7:30 or 8pm), then it will be a small meal (e.g. Thai-portioned meal, at Foodland). Most of the time, the massage would have been satisfying and I would see no point in heading to the bars after that. If I do go to the bars, it's mainly to update myself about changes, which means I have no urge to visit a bar more than once in a trip. I won't be looking for an off, though I've been know to make exceptions. In any case, unlike some others on this board, I don't do long-time offs, so there's no need to go hunting in the bars, when a late afternoon or evening massage is far more pleasant than dealing with mamasans and constant pressure for tips by any number of staff in the bars. Prices are also getting ridiculous (see my recent reply to @spoon at https://www.gayguides.com/topic/78207-bangkok-trip-report-10-days-of-bliss/page/7/https://www.gayguides.com/topic/78207-bangkok-trip-report-10-days-of-bliss/page/7/ jimmie50, vinapu, bkkmfj2648 and 3 others 5 1 Quote
vinapu Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago While morning and midday meal tend to be regular for me, when comes to eating in the evening I follow rule" eat when you are hungry". As for bar visit attire, always classy, multipocketed shirt, not floral motives though. I leave that to gays. Then shorts, also multipocketed and finally plastic Birkenstocks. I always make sure I shave before setting off. As for timing it depends if other members willing to meet are in town then I usually yield to their sugestion or I go alone. Preferable schedule : dinner at G's or Foodland at 8.30, then people watching at Banana outside or Midnight, over Chang beer of course, no glass. Hitting bars around 10.00. I don't like to be only one in bar but don't like being squeezed in corner for being late even more. bkkmfj2648, TMax and mauRICE 2 1 Quote
PeterRS Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago My bar hopping days were basically divided into two. From the start of my visits more than four and a half decades ago, most of my many visits were solo and I'd generally hit just one bar each evening of my long week-ends. The boys did not change bars very often in those days and I had quite a number of favourites. Like @macaroni21 I was rarely interested in overnight and in Twilight's heyday we'd make it over to the premises in the Suriwong hotel's garage with offs. I did once try Twilight/Hotmale's own upstairs rooms which were basic and not at all conducive to a pleasant hour or so. On the other hand, the upstairs facilities in some bars were quite agreeable, as in Solid Bar. I recall one off Sukhumvit which was more like a Japanese love hotel - circular bed, full length ceiling mirror - but I now just cannot remember which bar I attended prior to that off. From the late 90s on I was almost always out with friends. But as they lived in Bangkok - which I was to do from the start of the new millennium - we'd usually only go on Sundays and make an evening of it. We'd meet around 7:30 in various restaurants in the area. We'd always start with dinks, margaritas for my friends and vodka for me. We saw no point hitting the bars much before 10:00. And as earlier, we tended to hit just one bar each Sunday, having a couple of boys over for drinks before sometimes an off. The cutest bar boy I ever met was in Solid Bar. Just a gorgeous looking guy, spoke more than reasonable English and delivered big time. After a few weeks, he had disappeared. I asumed he had been taken on a long term off. But the manager told me he had discovered he was on drugs and had to get rid of him. Sad! Whereas many now seek massages, I was also into saunas which I might visit during weekdays. I actually met two boyfriends from sauna visits but none from bars! vinapu, mauRICE and jimmie50 2 1 Quote
