Problem with this is that it encourages laziness and after some time, the expectation of easy money just dropping into their laps

and disappointment likely soon follows

great report and pictures but I wonder what wrong with you with all that exhaustions. You are in Bangkok  after all , one doesn't go there to sleep, at least not before hitting bars no matter how hard day was. I'm afraid , upon return home you will be regretting wasting all those opportunities city presents.

Sadly the Kanchanaburi museum was closed when I was there.

Which one?

Kanchanaburi has several museums related to the railway:

  • Death Railway Museum and Research Centre (aka Thailand-Burma Railway Centre) near the cemetery
  • the JEATH War Museum Kanchanaburi at the southern end of the town by the river on Pakprak Rd.
  • the World War II and JEATH War Museum near the bridge and POW memorial

This may be a case for some but not for all.

Yes indeed it is not my intention to generalise but sadly I have enough real life examples in hand (some quite literally!) to be certain this is not just my imagination.

I definitely agree there are others who pleasantly surprise by being hardworking in bed and out of. Yet for every one of these I can name another who is alcohol or drug addled, video game addicted, lost all his savings to gambling or just too deeply in the easy street lifestyle to give it up.

I don’t mean to sound doom and gloom, it is what it is.

I know at least three , indeed out of shape  boys still holding to the bar jobs but having some gainful employment out of scene  in daytime.

Some of them don't even wait till they're out of shape to start looking for new work. They know they're aging out of the scene.  I have a memory of a guy from a bar who said we wouldn't need to walk back to the hotel; he had a bike. When I got to his parked bike, I saw a Grab jacket and even a Grab helmet. He explained that he was a Grab motosai driver in the day.

Good for you -- I thought.

Ok. My bad. Thanks for the clarification.

My Thai niece was my guide and she didn't explain it to me.

Really fantastic report @jamiebee thank you for taking us along on your adventures. Do we have to wait another year for the next one?

Thank you for reading through all my rumblings/trip report 🤣.

Unfortunately yes I only travel for a trip once every year of between 20-30day holiday split from visiting home in the Philippines and somewhere else.

I've only started visiting Thailand from 2023 main focus on Bangkok especially because my preference for Big Bulky Muscle men is located here.

There are still lots to discover, so my 10-14 days allocated for Thailand makes sense for me that I will always have something to look forward to.

After Thailand, next on my list will be Taiwan, and with the easing requirements for Filipino's will be Japan in the future.

Awesome report.

I went to Erawan last year. Really spectacular and totally overlooked by most tourists. In fact it's hard to believe that you are actually in Thailand.

There's another Erawan where it's impossible to believe that you are not in Thailand 😈:the-erawan-museum-1480.thumb.jpg.5d21ecd2d2161c565b2bafcf1467e0a3.jpg

I have seen some big bulky Filipino, some of them look like Samoans or Tongan.

By the way, a prospective visitor might ask what's the difference between the three museums. I'd say the Death Railway Museum by the cemetery is a well-funded modern museum and visitor experience up to modern international museum standards. The other two are essentially one-man (or one-monk?) projects - labours of love but sadly underfunded. The JEATH War Museum has reconstructed POW huts housing press clippings and original art works made by POWs, and a memorial to one of the Japanese soldiers, who stayed behind to help with reconstruction. The museum near the bridge (if it's still open) is a miscellaneous collection of stuff vaguely related to Thai life in WWII. Obviously the visitor experience will be very different for people who lost loved ones here.

Also, the War graves cemetery itself is worth a visit, very moving.

Yes, the museum by the bridge was closed.
