Members unicorn Posted July 3 Members Posted July 3 My husband calls it obnoxious. I call it self-aggrandizing mutual masturbation. Apparently this wedding is going to cost somewhere in the US $15 to $20 million range, not including the extra governmental costs involved with security (so far news sources haven't been able to verify that the couple will be compensating NYPD, and other costs local governments will be spending). I can't imagine they have enough close friends and relatives to fill up Madison Square Garden. When one thinks of all the starving children in South Sudan, Haiti, and Venezuela, such a lavish wedding expenditure seems a bit obscene. Yes, coinciding with their wedding, they will be donating $25 million this year to US-benefitted charities (primarily the American Heart Association, in honor of her father who had quintuple-bypass surgery, and Feeding America), in the previous 2 calendar years, their donations totaled about a tenth of that, to similar charities. All of this marriage showboating seems rather Trump-esque to me. At least there won't be tanks rolling down 7th Avenue. vinapu 1 Quote
Members Suckrates Posted July 4 Members Posted July 4 I LOVE IT, and I hope she knocks Trump out of EVERY headline for the next few days...... and I want to see her wedding pics EVERYWHERE instead of Trumps "I am the Greatest President EVER" bullshit...... Good for HER....She's rich, but GIVES back to causes that actually HELP people, unlike Trump who is picking our pockets and stealing our money to help HIMSELF..... Why should SHE be the only one thinking of starving children ? Not a single billionaire in Trumps cabinet IS, and HE surely aint.... And I dont want to hear the "2 wrongs dont make a right" crap...... She gives more money to charitable causes than almost anyone..... But she barely "talks about it"...... So, let Taylor have her happiness, and I hope it makes Trump "greener with Envy" than his algae infested Reflecting pool ? She works hard, she Deserves it ! Fuck the haters and Debby Downers...... As for "show boating", we ALL do it to some degree. You wouldnt want me to drag up former posts you made about all your "good fortune", now would ya ? vinapu 1 Quote

t0oL1 Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Not that I'd ever GAF about this but ... https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-80-hijacks-taylor-swift-055117241.html Donald Trump seemed to be getting slightly antsy on Friday night, amid the way too much attention being paid to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's massive wedding bash in Manhattan. So the White House took decisive action. Just 10 minutes after several digital pink signs lit up outside Madison Square Garden to declare Swift and Kelce as "JUST&T MARRIED‚" the White House took a moment to co-opt the newlyweds' announcement. At 8:04 p.m., the official White House account on X shared a post in which they boldly replaced the couple's happy announcement with an altered AI declaration: "DONALD TRUMP IS YOUR PRESIDENT." The post was captioned: "IT'S HAPPENED!!," which most of the public is acutely aware of. see article about his response and hilarious responses to his original response...(couldn't copy them) Quote
10tazione Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Isnt it somewhat hypocritical when someone who spent 50.000 $ on a wedding gets upset about someone spending 20 mio $? Also with 50.0000 you could save a few children in Haiti! Mavica and vinapu 1 1 Quote

Also with 50.0000 you could save a few children in Haiti! You don't have the slightest concept about what you're discussing, nor did you bother to look it up. Aside from it being a bit creepy that you seem to remember the cost of my wedding better than I do, my wedding costs were about average for my area. I don't know where you live, nor what weddings typically cost in your area, but a simple question to AI could answer that question: Since we had about 90 guests, our costs were near the average for the area. It was hardly a showy wedding (but everyone had a wonderful time, with many romping naked in the pool afterward). This certainly doesn't compare to the T&T wedding, which is the most pompous non-royal wedding I can ever recall. Quote
Members Pete1111 Posted July 5 Members Posted July 5 I'm a private kind of person. I don't understand why anyone would be married at Madison Square Garden. Yet, Jeff Bezos did something similar, right? I don't judge them. They have their reasons. I wonder if the ceremony was taped for future streaming? There might be a revenue angle involved. I won't lose any sleep over it though. floridarob 1 Quote

I fail to understand WHY everything is always OK when you do it, and fiercely defend your position, but you take issue if others do the same thing. Do you think that YOU are exclusive somehow. Did the supreme Courts issue you some sort of "immunity" also ? You also have always had a penchant for discussing all your personal business, especially your "extravagances" here on the site, and then take offense when people question it or have an issue with it, although you never hold back when you have an issue with someone or something..... Lets be fair, and treat everyone the same. If you choose to boast about your 5oK wedding, thats fine, but dont get angry if there is someone that doesnt share your viewpoint on it. Taylors grandiose wedding spectacle is part of her job..... She does it for her fans, its probably a tax deduction for her as a business, so it has nothing to do with her being a narcissist or all the other bullshit thrown at her.... Being a celebrity entails being "public", and I am sure she did her research and determined the PUBLIC had an appetite to "share" her wedding with her, since she is one of the most beloved and charitable celebrities today. So take a breath and relax..Your 50K wedding is no different than her 50 million $ wedding in the big picture of things.. except that SHE ddnt have nude swimmers. vinapu and unicorn 1 1 Quote

I could say that snow is cold, and you'd have an issue with it. While Bezos' wedding cost was similar to hers, it was done more privately, and not grandstanding on America's 250th birthday. He's also the 3rd richest person on the planet and regularly gives oodles more to charity than Taylor Swift has. She only gave a large amount this year, and that's because I'm sure plenty of people were ready to be shocked at how much more she spent on her wedding than what she regularly spends on charity (10 times), and would be even more shocked had she not been generous this year. As for Bezos: AI Overview: Jeff Bezos does not donate a fixed annual amount, but his actual charitable disbursements average between $300 million and $500 million per year. And if we look at another man with much greater means than T&T: AI Overview: Bill Gates' 1994 wedding to Melinda French on the Hawaiian island of Lanai was estimated to cost around $1 million. To maintain complete privacy for the 130 guests, Gates famously bought out every hotel room on the island and chartered all available helicopters in the region. AI Overview: $1 million in 1994 is worth approximately $2,261,288.80 today. The fact of the matter is that my wedding expenses were on par with what average couples in the county I live in are paying. To think of that sum as ostentatious is so detached from reality as to be delusional (although I'm pretty sure you don't actually think that, but are just trying to be argumentative, with ridiculous statements, as usual). And the wedding was not about "sharing" with her fans. In fact, it was never even announced publicly, although everyone figured it out--as they were blocked off from approaching the venue. Quote
caeron Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Interesting you choose to judge her for this, but not all the other billionaires for not helping people and spending huge amounts of money on things they want. Why would I care? Weddings mean a lot to some people. Mine was small and relatively cheap and completely lovely. Others want big bashes. Whatever. We could all do more good with our money if we wanted to forgo the pleasure of our own wealth. If we're in this forum, we obviously aren't monks with vows of poverty. We all live in a very large glass house with stones in abundance. jimmie50 and 10tazione 1 1 Quote

As for Bezos: Its quite TELLING here that you consider anyone having any issue with you, or taking you to tsk on an issue as "irrational", as if YOU are above reproach or criticism ? Noones perfect dear, not even YOU, so perhaps you need to get over yourself a bit and be a tad more introspective ? Whether grandstanding is done public or private, its up to the individual, and they have the right to do so, whatever their choice. Just as you took issue with people contributing to "Go Fund Me" accounts because YOU thought they were scams and the people setting them up are "scammers"...... So, let me get this straight, you dont like people "asking for money" OR people "spending their money in ways YOU dont approve" ? Stop being so damn judgy, or is it perhaps jealousy or envy ? You cant be the only person allowed to BRAG about superficial and trivial shit. Stop worrying about other peoples wallets and how they spend their money, and on what. Like you, they EARNED it, and they can spend it, ANYWAY they choose. There is no law that spending habits have to fit the narrative YOU created for them. People might say that you should have spent all your dollars on feeding the hungry kids in impoverished countries instead of on gold-digging, opportunist boytoys ? But girl, you did YOUR thing, and good for you ! Or maybe, tell us again "how many multi-million dollar mansions" did you tour in Calif ? Again, you detailed YOUR wedding, and truth be told, it wasnt as FABULOUS as Taylors.... I didnt care about yours, but want to know MORE about hers ! It makes good "press" and its part of the entertainment business, and actually goes back for decades with stars of the golden Age of Hollywood..... I aint mad at it...... At the same time I support unicorn that such money could be better spent somewhere else and think that making such abandon and frivolous spending public is low class. A no, I'm not from there Of course, your above highlighted comment is TRUE, but you cannot mandate how people spend their own money. Its their choice. People like Musk who is now the worlds first Trillionaire can easily provide enough money to support and FEED several impoverished countries and save dying children, but he chooses NOT to, and rather give his money to Facist leaders..... In fact he was the instrumental force in killing USAID and facilitating the deaths of millions of sick and starving kids around the world as a willing part of DOGE. BUT you dont hear his name being thrown around as selfish, self absorbed and narcissist, like they are labeling Swift...... People need to HAVE an enemy for some reason, and Taylor is simply "the enemy du jour"........ until the next celebrity dominates the headlines for lavish spending on something the general public does not approve of.... People just need to get over it.... That is, IMHO.. floridarob 1 Quote
