MANILA, Sept 6 — Philippine Airlines said Saturday it was filing for bankruptcy in the United States to slash US$2 billion (RM8.29 billion) in debt as it tries to survive an industry gutted by the coronavirus pandemic. My good friend living in Dumaguete contracted the Covid Virus. He was in the Hospital for 3 days and then they told him to go home and quarantine. He got no help with his Hospital expenses and had to buy his own medicines. Things in the PH are just so bad!! Few people are getting the Vaccine and if they are it is the Chinese Sinovac. Terrible job by Duerte and his Government!! My friend is 35 yo and in good shape. He says he has recovered and hopes to return to his work soon. He thinks he got it at the Quick-Shop store he manages. Wish more was being done in the Philippines...

NAIA, Manila has reopened for International Flights starting immediately, May 11. But it is still not going to be easy. All incoming passenger must be Tested at the Airport and then go to a Government Quarantine Facility to await their Test Results. If their test is negative they can leave the quarantine facility but must continue to quarantine some other place for 14 days. Costs will probably paid by the arriving Passenger. My friends there in the PH tell me people are desperate to get money and food. My guy in Cebu has been laid off from his Hotel and is trying to support his Family of 5, including Mom and Dad. He has a degree in HRM but no one is hiring. He says he might make it for 2 more weeks. They are eating what things they can grow in the garden. Well, I have been to the Philippines and fortunately was able to fly back to the USA. I spent 3 weeks in Cebu City and 1 week in Manila. In Cebu most people were not wearing face masks. And the Malls were as full as ever. But in Manila many people were wearing masks and still going to the Malls. With my age, 79, and lung problems I decided to stay away from the crowds. Some very sad reports from Manila and the areas south of there. The volcano centered in a beautiful Lake name Taal has erupted! Sending a plume of ash over 6000 ft into the air and covering many of the Provinces around it in white stuff!! Even closing the main Airports in Manila and Clark. I had been planning a few days on the beach in Batangas in March. Do not think that will be possible now!! The sad thing is that 8,000 to 10,000 people have to evacuate. No homes and not jobs!! Went to Manila, then to Bangkok, back to Manila, and finally down to Cebu City; in November and December. What a trip!! Arriving in Manila from LAX and HKG was no problem; just 25 hours of travel. Met my Guy from Cebu and stayed one night at the Remington Hotel, next to the Airport. The hotel is simple but OK.
