After 3 hours of testimony in a jury trial, two Kentucky gay men were fined one penny for protesting their inability to get a marriage license. According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, "Dominique James and the Rev. Maurice “Bojangles” Blanchard all but admitted on the witness stand Tuesday that they’d broken the law by staying in the Jefferson County Clerk’s office after closing time — protesting when they were denied a marriage license." They turned down a plea bargain offering to drop the charges in return for five hours of community service, and went to trial, where they risked a $250 fine. Instead, they received the smallest fine in state history. Read more: ht…

The Thai Democrats and some of their fringe allies (what's left of the yellow shirts and PAD), like the Republicans in the US, seem to be totally nuts in what posltions they stake out on various issues. Instead of actually coming up with a policy that might be helpful for the Thai people, they seem to choose any topic they think they can use to undercut the current Thai government. And, for whatever reason, they seem to always select the dumbest positions on such issues. The International Court of Justice ruled over 50 years ago that the Vihear Temple belongs to Cambodia. And, like it or not, there is no (zero) possibility that the Court is going to reverse that ru…

I was just reading an article about how to handle various holiday meal problems. I found it amusing but then there are a lot of "cooks" who are inexperienced. Deep frying a turkey is not difficult but it does require some diligence such as cooking it out of doors and not putting in anything other than a completely thawed turkey. Otherwise, very delicious and easy to prepare and not "full of fat" as some think. Usually a smaller turkey is better, such as a 10 pound one. I think we can all handle holiday meal problems with common sense which is not always common. Being friendly and offering plenty of wine is always a good idea. Best regards, RA1

To help a contestant struggling with his sexuality, The Biggest Loser Trainer Bob Harper, made the courageous decision to come out publicly as a gay man during Tuesdays episode of the show. Bobby had admitted on the show that he was gay, but had not yet been able to come out to his father. I havent talked about my sexuality on this show ever, Bob said to the cameras. And now, meeting Bobby, I really do believe this is the right time. I want to show Bobby that he doesnt have to live in shame. When I came out, when I was 17 years old, it was one of those things where I realized that there was going to be so many obstacles, but being gay doesnt mean being weak, he told…

Warning: Major Spoiler Alert They really killed him. Like in really, really dead. Like in not coming back at the end of the episode. Or next week. Or ever. Dead, dead, dead & dead. I mean so dead he's already been replaced. And that's about as dead as you get in a TV series. Ok, so don't look unless you really want to know: "A regular on Seth MacFarlane's popular animated series since its pilot in 1999, Brian the family dog was hit and killed by a car during the Season 12 episode Life of Brian, in which Stewie destroyed his time machine and the Griffins adopted a new pet. The show's executive producer Steve Callaghan spoke to E! Online about the painful deci…

There are about 500 million Buddhists worldwide, but it's unclear exactly when in history this religion began. The Buddha's life story spread first through oral tradition, and little physical evidence about Buddhism's early years has been found. Now, scientists for the first time have uncovered archaeological evidence of when the Buddha's monumentally influential life occurred. Excavations in Nepal date a Buddhist shrine, located at what is said to be the Buddha's birthplace, to the sixth century B.C. The research, published in the journal Antiquity, describes the remains of a timber structure about the same size and shape as a temple built at the same site in the third…

Why all the emphasis on the "lifestyle" of a turkey slated for a holiday meal? Certainly I want my food to be as healthful as possible. I prefer the least amount of "doctoring" to the feed and the fewest chemicals used to either raise or process my food. However, whatever lifestyle might be offered, the ultimate point is for it to become food. I do not believe in mistreating animals. But until and unless persuasive proof can be offered that lifestyle makes a turkey taste better, I see little point in allowing them to walk about and "enjoy" life. If they are going to be pets, that is different. Any other opinions? Best regards, RA1

Samsung pays Apple $1 Billion sending 30 trucks full of 5 cent coinsNovember 13 This morning more than 30 trucks filled with 5-cent coins arrived at Apple’s headquarters in California. Initially, the security company that protects the facility said the trucks were in the wrong place, but minutes later, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) received a call from Samsung CEO explaining that they will pay $1 billion dollars for the fine recently ruled against the South Korean company in this way. The funny part is that the signed document does not specify a single payment method, so Samsung is entitled to send the creators of the iPhone their billion dollars in the way they deem best. Th…

See, if we had a dedicated Television subforum, this kind of crap wouldn't have to clutter up the main forum here. Doctor Who's least fearsome foesAs you may have heard, the Time Lord turns 50 this week. But if the UK's favourite teatime children's programme is so great, how do you explain this sorry bunch? Joe Bishop The Guardian, Friday 22 November 2013 08.00 EST Sil Sil has the unfortunate burden of looking like the perfect stool. Top to bottom, Sil's anatomy screams "juice cleanse" and "baked kale". Up from the smooth ridges at his base, his pectorals form those sticky clumps that are bound in crud, fitting together so magically, a shitty Pangaea before t…
