10 discontinued cars we're going to miss Last week we looked at cars that deservedly got the axe in 2013. This week we'll be a lot kinder because we're looking at the models that are disappearing altogether or making way for generation 2014, but that we'd love to have in our garage. For lack of a general-interest film/TV forum, this here. It looks great. Also Nathaniel Philbrick's historical account In the Heart of the Sea referenced below is well worth the read. The Whale: the terrifying real voyage that inspired Moby-Dick Moby-Dick is the story of a captain driven mad in his pursuit of a whale. But, as a new BBC drama reveals, the events that inspired Herman Melville were even more terrifying Charles Furness and Jassa Ahluwalia in BBC One's The Whale By Philip Hoare 7:00AM GMT 09 Dec 2013 The Telegraph Two thousand miles from the nearest land, the crew of the Essex watched in horror as the enormous bull whale headed for their mothe…

New studies at UNC (Chapel Hill) document that 0.8% of young American women give birth while still virgin. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/12/17/usa-health-virgins-idUSL2N0JW1UF20131217 And if Brenda Sue Hopkins of Dubuque, Iowa, can pop out a virgin birth, why couldn't Mary? (Cynics note in vitro births were excluded so shut your traps.) Just something for our resident scoffers to think about. So stop hating on Hito, he may be on to something.

As the new year is quickly approaching, I thought I would mention again the dates for Phoenix Pride. We have our pride celebration early here, before it gets too hot for outdoor activity. For 2014, the festivities will be the weekend of April 5-6. In past years, we have had little "get togethers" here in Phoenix. We have many bars/clubs that have gogo boys, and we also have Dick's Cabaret, which features totally nude dancers. Lap dances are available at most of the clubs, but the privacy level varies, and at none of the clubs will you experience "Montreal-style" dances. That being said, it isn't unheard of for some of the dancers to be open to some "extracurricular" activ…

I found it interesting that the state Supreme Court yesterday made New Mexico the 17th state in which same sex marriage is now legal, yet no one on this site or "the other site" even mentioned the fact. I guess the subject is no longer newsworthy.

Canada's Anti-Prostitution Laws Struck Down By Supreme Court By CHARMAINE NORONHA 12/20/13 11:12 AM ET EST TORONTO (AP) — Canada's highest court struck down the country's anti-prostitution laws in their entirety Friday, including against keeping a brothel. The 9-0 Supreme Court ruling is a victory for sex workers seeking safer working conditions because it found that the laws violated the guarantee to life, liberty and security of the person. But the ruling won't take effect immediately because it gave Parliament a one-year reprieve to respond with new legislation. Prostitution isn't illegal in Canada, but many of the activities associated with prostitut…

PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS: The fourth season premiere of Duck Dynasty set cable records, attracting an audience of 11.8 million. For contrast, broadcast TV‘s top show that night was America’s Got Talent which drew 9.3 million viewers, Big Brother came in second among new shows with 6 million viewers. I still don't understand this reality TV show craze but I really don't understand Duck Dynasty. It looks like ZZ Top went camping. . .

I have to admit that I was only vaguely aware of this show since I seldom watch tv. I did find a pic of the clan after the inbred old guy made his moronic comments and I noticed a very hot strapping lad in bare feet standing on the far left of the picture. http://www.eonline.com/news/492909/duck-dynasty-family-very-serious-about-leaving-the-show

OK, it being the beginning of Awards Season and all, to liven things up over the holidays, I'm proposing a "Dumb Ass" contest to find 2013's biggest retard. To get things started, I nominate the following ijits: 1: Eldo Kim, the Harvard undergrad who closed half the campus with bomb threats e-mailed from his own computer. http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/failing-grade-alleged-harvard-bomb-hoaxer-needed-more-tor-cover-2D11767028 2: Cody Conner, 17 year old who was talked out of robbing a store when the clerk offered him a job. He filled out the application using his real name. 3: Anonymous Dumbass Words fail me (AS, maybe you can help me out here). Well, the s…

Al Goldstein dies at 77 By The Associated Press December 19, 2013 - 09:42 am NEW YORK (AP) - Al Goldstein, the bird-flipping publisher of Screw magazine who helped break down legal barriers against pornography and raged against politicians, organized religion and anything that even suggested good taste, died at a Brooklyn hospice Thursday after a long illness, according to a friend, attorney Charles C. DeStefano. Al Goldstein, publisher of Screw magazine, dies in NYC after illness. AP Photo. Of all the would-be successors to Hugh Hefner's sexual throne, no one was as out there as Goldstein. Whether taking potshots at sacred cows in the magazine's pages, or plac…
