Name any one city that you really want to see before you die and many will say: Venice. It is one of the great, unique cities with breathtaking views and an extraordinary history going back more than 1,000 years. Yet, as we know, Venice is sinking. In the last 100 years it is estimated to have sunk 11 inches, most of that a result of increasing industrialisation on the mainland. Now it is global warming and rising sea levels that is the key issue. The BBC website has an article about the increasing number of flood days which have St. Mark’s Square under water. On my last visit, there were floods, grey skies and platforms everywhere with long lines of bedraggled touri…

OK here we go. You are given two envelops, one contains the details on how you will die. The other contains the exact month day and year you will die. You have three choices - open the envelop with the details - open the envelop with the date - disregard both envelops Keep in mind, for example, if you select the date ... it only means you will die at that time. It does not give you freedom to do whatever you want (i.e. you walk in front of a bus you might end up in a wheel chair till your death). So which do you select and why?

10 Bargain Retirement Spots by Emily Brandon Saturday, February 26, 2011 provided by Declining home values can be devastating for homeowners. But falling home prices can create bargains for newcomers to the area. Retirees may now be able to afford homes in places they were priced out of only a year ago. U.S. News used our best places to retire search tool, powered by data from Onboard Informatics, to find the places where home prices are falling fast. Average home sale prices have declined by at least 45 percent between 2009 and 2010 in every city on our list. To add geographic diversity, we restricted the list to one city per state. Housing prices are declining f…

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX),Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, 'If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.' In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part): 1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash......... Twice a day. 2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car. 3. Occasionally your car woul…

We Netflixed Patrik 1.5 tonight. It is about a gay couple in Sweden who adopt a young boy, Patrik, who is a year and a half old...or so they think. Turns out that the 1.5 is a typo, and Patrik is really 15, and a homophobe. The actor Thomas Ljungman plays Patrik, and since he is actually 19, I can say that he is a super doll. He plays the role well, and, of course, learns to like the gay homos. We both liked the movie a lot, so give it a try. Patrik

  12. Maryland Senate Votes To Approve Gay Marriage Rights TOM LoBIANCO 02/24/11 09:14 PM AP ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Same-sex couples in Maryland would have the same full marriage rights as heterosexuals under a bill that cleared the Senate Thursday. If the House of Delegates approves it and the governor signs it, Maryland would be the sixth U.S. state to approve gay marriage. Opponents, including Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, D-Calvert, promised that if it does become law that a referendum question would be on the 2012 ballot so voters have the final decision. One Republican, Sen. Allan Kittleman of Howard, joined 24 Democrats to pass the bill with 21 opposing. A m…

  13. President Obama, in a striking legal and political shift, has determined that the Defense of Marriage Act — the 1996 law that bars federal recognition of same-sex marriages — is unconstitutional, and has directed the Justice Department to stop defending the law in court, the administration said Wednesday. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced the decision in a letter to members of Congress. In it, he said the administration was taking the extraordinary step of refusing to defend the law, despite having done so during Mr. Obama’s first two years in the White House. “The president and I have concluded that classifications based on sexual orientation” should be su…

Any GLEEK's around? I was left a little disappointed by the Superbowl Thriller episode. Kind of like the game is normally. And I suppose it kind of matched the BEP performance. Only thing that might have helped is if Fergie had taken Josh Duhamel from behind during the show. Now that would have topped the Janet Jackson "malfunction". Imagine getting to see some tranny peen. Anyway, I loved the direction of the V-DAY show. They brought in Tate Donovan once more. He's great. At least I thought so. He does lots of interesting stuff. Including the look-alike version of himself as Darren Criss' love interest. Anyone else catch that? The show ended on a high note at Breadsti…

A crazed Democratic Majority Leader of the United States Senate, Harry Reid of Nevada, says the time has cum to outlaw prostitution. Now that he is too old for sex, he wants the rest of us saving our money to pay the higher taxes he plans to enact. Well, maybe. Here's the report from Politico via gawker: Harry Reid Hates Hookers, ApparentlySenator Harry Reid shocked some people yesterday during his speech to the Nevada legislature when he told the audience, "The time has come for us to outlaw prostitution." Brothel owners, prostitutes and fans of prostitution were very upset. After Reid's speech, most of which was about things that actually matter, the owner of Moonlit…

Sorry, I was busy last several days and did not check the board. I have got a letter from my London broker that they are closing all US persons accounts (including Americans living overseas). Some time ago I discussed new US law (which was adopted as a part of so-called HIRE ACT) which imply that pretty much all American offshore accounts are in danger of being closed. This is just a beginning. Let me mention that some US brokerages allow to transfer foreign brokerage accounts to them. I am trying to arrange such a transfer at the moment. Another option is total liquidation of all positions which is clearly highly inconvenient.

World's Most Liveable Cities Based on a combination of environment, health care, culture and infrastructure, Vancouver topped the list of the world's most liveable cities for the fifth straight year, according to a new report. As Reuters is reporting, the 2010 Winter Olympics host scored a whopping 98 percent in the 2011 Liveability Ranking and Overview by the Economist Intelligence Unit, which has ranked the Canadian west coast city at the top since 2007. Canada dominated the top 10 spots along with Australia, with Melbourne surpassing Vienna, Austria as the world's second most liveable city. That's Buster Posey, the catcher for the so-far playoff winning San Francisco Giants. Buster is 23, a former star athlete from Georgia, once named the Gatorade player of the year! Now the cute young catcher finds himself playing in San Francisco, where the whole town wants a piece of him. Catch the Giants v. the Braves on Sunday and you can get a live glimpse of a future hero...and current heartthrob! Ideally, if I weren't a Yankee fan, I would like to see Posey go against sexy Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer, but the Yankees will have finished off the Twins soon. Okay, I know baseball isn't a hot topic here, but at least I try. Right, Buster?

With the death last week of the 39 year old producer of the Narnia Chronicles from a reported Oxycontin overdose, those who advocate against pain doctors have been given more ammunition. Doctors specializing in chronic pain have become controversial for their willingness to prescribe larger doses of pain medicine than family doctors are usually comfortable with, thus leaving the patient in a dilemma. Listen to the family doc and suffer the pain, or take the risk that the pain doc might give you too much medicine. Family docs argue the risk of addiction, dependency, and overdose. Pain docs claim that with a constant flow of drugs, there will be no withdrawal issues so add…

I have a few tats an I really like them. As I have said here before, I really get turned on by a guy with a nice tattoo. I am not young anymore and the older I get, the more I seem to want to get more of these things. Just out of curiosity, does anyone here have one? Do you think that age plays a part in tats as the younger generation seems to be more likely to have many of them?

The Advocate and other media are reporting a drug bust on the gay cruise this past week. With 5500 passengers, the Royal Caribbean ship Allure was a floating party. A friend on the ship told me of the people who went to the infirmary for help, only to be booted off the next day. At one party where several partiers were naked, one of them shit all over the dance floor. Atlantis Cruises, long the sponsor of these voyages, has been frequently accused of turning a blind eye at all of the drugs on board. The Advocate reports that only one man was actually arrested, an alleged dealer. Two people came to his room to buy drugs while the bust on him was taking place. Lots of cash…
