As if we hadn't had enough of him. (And here I am posting this.) Ex-Edwards Aide to Write Tell-All By JIM RUTENBERG and MOTOKO RICH A man who was one of former Senator John Edwards’s closest aides has a deal to write a book claiming that Mr. Edwards said he “would be taken care of for life†in return for falsely claiming he was the father of the baby carried by Mr. Edwards’s mistress, Rielle Hunter. The aide, Andrew Young, sold his book proposal to St. Martin’s Press for an undisclosed price late last week. In his proposal, Mr. Young quotes Mr. Edwards, a Democrat who was his party’s vice-presidential nominee in 2004 and ran for president last year, as begg…

I don't get it. I don't understand North Korea's actions and saber-rattling statements. The way I see it, that country's behavior is like the mean little neighborhood bully making more and more threats after the other neighborhood kids decide not to put up with it anymore, thinking he can frighten the other kids into giving in to him. North Korea must know that if they actually start attacking other countries, that's tantamount to their own suicide in the end. They are now alienating their closest allies. Why? What are they really trying to accomplish? I don't see what they believe they can gain from all this nonsense.

Her first TV show -- "My Little Margie" -- set the sitcom stage with Lucille Ball and other female stars in the 1950s, said Skip E. Lowe, a longtime friend who acted in some of Storm's first movies in the early 1940s. "She was a wond…

'Gayby Boom': Children of Gay Couples Speak Out By John Blake CNN CNN -- Jesse Levey is a Republican activist who says he believes in family values, small government and his lesbian mothers' right to marry. Levey is part of the "gayby boom" generation. The 29-year-old management consultant is the son of a lesbian couple who chose to have a child through artificial insemination. He's their only child. Critics of same-sex marriage say people such as Levey will grow up shunned and sexually confused. Yet he says he's a "well-adjusted heterosexual" whose upbringing proves that love, not gender, makes a family. "You can imagine what my parents thought…

I have not done this for a long time. This week's spate of deaths of public persons, of all things, moves me to post this. I have been reading and rereading this thing for more than 30 years. When I was 18 it seemed too dry and abstract for its subject matter; now it puts me on the floor, weeping, for all those we knew who have passed beyond our reach. The Owl in the Sarcophagus Wallace Stevens I Two forms move among the dead, high sleep Who by his highness quiets them, high peace Upon whose shoulders even the heavens rest, Two brothers. And a third form, she that says Good-by in the darkness, speaking quietly there, To those that cannot say good-by themselves. …

Church Creates Stir With Gay Exorcism BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (June 24) - The video shows the 16-year-old boy lying on the floor, his body convulsing, as elders of a small Connecticut church cast a "homosexual demon" from his body. "Rip it from his throat!" a woman yells. "Come on, you homosexual demon! You homosexual spirit, we call you out right now! Loose your grip, Lucifer!" The 20-minute video posted on YouTube by Manifested Glory Ministries is being called abuse by gay and youth advocates, who are demanding an investigation. But a church official this week denied that the teenager was injured or that the church is prejudiced. Gay Exorcism: A small Connect…

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Mark Sanford, the governor of South Carolina, apologized in a rambling news conference on Wednesday for having an extra-marital affair with a woman in Argentina, ending a mystery over his week-long disappearance that had infuriated lawmakers and seemed to put his rising political career in jeopardy. Governor Sanford admitted he had been in Buenos Aires, Argentina, since Thursday, not hiking on the Appalachian Trail as he told his staff.

Since Obama has indicated that he would sign a health care reform as part of a budget reconciliation bill (proceedurally bypassing a filibuster in the Senate), there now exists a realistic possiblity that some kind health care reform legislation will come out of this session of Congress. I think we all need to put on our thinking caps about this; everybody would be affected one way or another and we are talking about 1/6 of the economy here. Here is a neutral overview of what's happening in Washington. The Moment of Truth

By Joe DeCapua Washington D.C 22 June 2009 There's been a breakthrough in AIDS research. Scientists have found out where HIV, the AIDS virus, hides when it's under attack from anti-retroviral drugs. So far, the drugs have managed to keep HIV at very low levels in the body. But they are unable to get rid of the virus completely. Scientists have been searching for places where the virus could hide. Now, they believe they have found them. The discovery could eventually lead to better treatments and perhaps a cure. Professor Rafick-Pierre Sekaly, scientific director at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute in Port St. Lucie, Florida, spoke to VOA a…

McMahon passed away peacefully shortly after midnight at the Ronald Reagan/UCLA Medical Center, his publicist, Howard Bragman, said Tuesday McMahon, 86, was hospitalized in February with pneumonia and other medical problems. I really enjoyed this movie. Roger Ebert says "Now this is what I'm talkin' about. "The Hangover" is a funny movie, flat out, all the way through. Its setup is funny. Every situation is funny. Most of the dialogue is funny almost line by line. At some point we actually find ourselves caring a little about what happened to the missing bridegroom -- and the fact that we almost care is funny, too." I initially didn't plan to see this movie since the title made me think it would be a stupid movie. So I went in with no expectations...often times a good way to see a movie. I laughed a lot. Any one else see it?

(CNN) -- Myanmar pro-democracy figure Aung San Suu Kyi turned 64 in prison Friday, while a judge considers when to hear her appeal to allow more witnesses at her subversion trial. Suu Kyi, under house arrest for 13 of the past 19 years, had been expected to be freed by the military junta last month, until the new subversion charge was filed. Thousands of supporters left birthday messages of 64 words or less for the Nobel Peace Prize laureate on a Web site created for the occasion. This message, posted late Thursday, was signed by a woman in the United Kingdom: "This message isn't going to be remarkable. 64 words are not enough for this injustice, not t…

The following appears in the BANGKOK POST: _____ Still No Justice for Aung San Suu Kyi By: GORDON BROWN, Prime Minister UK Published: 19/06/2009 Today, Friday June 19, is the 64th birthday of Aung San Suu Kyi. The fact that she remains under arrest is tragic for Burma and for all those throughout the world who believe in democracy and the rule of law. The trial of Aung San Suu Kyi is an absurd mockery of justice. The real injustice was not that someone broke into her compound, but that she was imprisoned in the first place. Aung San Suu Kyi has now been imprisoned for 13 of the last 19 years since the party she led won the last elections in h…

Bush Hopes Closing Guantanamo Won't Risk Security By GENARO C. ARMAS, Associated Press Writer Genaro C. Armas, Associated Press Writer ERIE, Pa. – Former President George W. Bush said Wednesday that he hopes that his successor's plans to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will not compromise domestic security. Bush, though, maintained during an appearance in northwestern Pennsylvania that he would not criticize President Barack Obama, though he did discuss his policies. "I will just tell you that there are people at Gitmo who will kill Americans at the drop of a hat," the nation's 43rd president said at a dinner held by a group of b…
