I have the Kindle 2 and absolutely love it. It lets me make the print as large as I want. The battery last forever. I think I read 4 books on the last charge. The technology is great. On Wednesday, Amazon announced the latest version of the Kindle with the larger screen. I purchased a new one as well. I love that I can have up to 6 Kindles on my account and that all the books I buy, can be on all of them so my family and I can share all the books. The most I have paid is 9.99 for a book. As you see, I am singing the praises of this device!

  4. British Woman Could Face Laos Death Penalty BANGKOK, Thailand (CNN) -- A pregnant British woman facing possible execution in Laos will go on trial this week, the country's foreign affairs ministry said Monday. Samantha Orobator "is facing death by firing squad for drug trafficking," said Clare Algar, executive director of Reprieve, a London-based human rights group. Orobator, 20, was arrested on August 5, said Khenthong Nuanthasing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman. She was alleged to have been carrying just over half a kilogram (2.2 pounds) of heroin, Reprieve lawyer Anna Morris told CNN by phone from Vientiane, the Laotian capital. "For tha…

By now most of you are probably aware of of the incident over New York City in which a 747 did a low flyover, right in the area at which 9/11 took place, and caused panic. President Obama is "furious" over the incident and was not informed about it until after it happened. While Caldera, director of the White House Military Office, made the decision to do this for a "photo op" and claims that proper steps were taken to inform authorities, the Mayor of New York, among others, were not informed. Certainly the public knew nothing about it. If you are unaware of the incident and/or haven't seen the video, a good place to check is the CNN web site. ( See: http://editi…

Reading the movie recommendations thread reminded me of my trip to the IMAX theater to see 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. I got to see the trailer for the new Star Trek film and wow...blown away here...... so . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Spoliers.... He's taken a few liberties with the series. The Enterprise looks like the Enterprise on the outside, but it's different on the inside. The uniforms look like the original series uniforms. Zachary Quinto favors Leonard Nimoy a LOT. Karl Urban channels Deforest Kelley extremely well. Chris Pine is fucking HOT!!! The sound effects are the sound effects from the original series. The comput…

From CNN.Com   cnn.com: The more often Americans go to church, the more likely they are to support the torture of suspected terrorists, according to a new survey. The Washington Region Religious Campaign Against Torture rallied on Capitol Hill in March 2008. More than half of people who attend services at least once a week -- 54 percent -- said the use of torture against suspected terrorists is "often" or "sometimes" justified. Only 42 percent of people who "seldom or never" go to services agreed, according to the analysis released Wednesday by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. Read the whole story: cnn.com

Our fearless leader, Totally Oz, makes what I think to be one of the stupidest comments ever made on a message board. Here it is: "We've all had friends with HIV and, in general, we know what they've looked like at different stages in their medication. If, for any reason, you get a vibe that the dude “looks poz†it's a good idea to cancel the date as politely as possible." Oz speaks of having friends with HIV in the past tense and it's easy to see why. He wants you to avoid them- and not just that, people who "look" POZ too! With an attitude like that, his HIV friends have surely dropped him from their Rolodex. The simple fact is that you can't assume someone's stat…

Dom DeLuise Dies at 75 LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Dom DeLuise, who spiced up such movies as "Blazing Saddles," "Silent Movie" and "The Cannonball Run" with his manic delivery and roly-poly persona, has died, his son's publicist told CNN. Publicist Jay Schwartz did not disclose the cause of death, but DeLuise, 75, had been battling cancer for more than a year. DeLuise was surrounded by family when he died in a Santa Monica, California, hospital Monday night, son Michael DeLuise told CNN affiliate KTLA-TV. DeLuise was most famous for his supporting roles in a number of Mel Brooks films, including 1974's "Saddles" -- in which he played a flamboyant …

Unless I misunderstood what I read, Americans with an income of less that $200,000 are going to receive about $350 or so as part of the Economic Stimulus Package and the first checks are going to start being sent out at some point this month, in May. Am I correct about that? Does anyone know what the story is?

  17. Oz and I have been discussing in background whether to permit Politics Threads in the Forum. He is in favor of permitting politics threads. I am not. He enjoys them, as I do (in an atmosphere of respect and civility). I suspect he believes that others also enjoy the discussions and the additional activity it brings to the boards. Oz believes that we can manage the 'behavorial issues'. I am strongly dubious. I've seen this tried several times before: here and elsewhere. I have never seen anything that gives me optimism about consistency of civility and respectful behavior over the long run. Invariably, some feel that moderation is unevenly applied by moderators. Agay news blog reported the following, and was placed on My Yahoo page. May 03, 2009 Rudy Giuliani Skips Gay Friends' Wedding Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani was a last-minute no-show at the wedding of his former roommates -- a gay couple -- yesterday. It was a disappointment for Queens car dealer Howard Koeppel and his longtime lover, Mark Hsaio, who tied the knot in a double-ring ceremony before 10 guests in Westport, Conn. The couple famously let the ex-mayor crash at their luxury $2.37 million three-bedroom Manhattan apartment while he was going through a nasty divorce with Donna Hanover in 2001. Later, Giuliani married the "other woman," Judith…

Good deal on sports equipment. A woman takes a lover home during the day while her husband is at work. Her 9-year old son comes home unexpectedly, sees them and hides in the bedroom closet to watch. The woman's husband also comes home. She puts her lover in the closet, not realizing that the little boy is in there already. The little boy says, "Dark in here." The man says, "Yes, it is." Boy: "I have a baseball." Man: "That's nice" Boy: "Want to buy it?" Man: "No, thanks." Boy: "My Dad's outside." Man: "OK, how much?" Boy: "$250" In the next few weeks, it happens again that the boy and the lover are in the…

Well, I just received this link. It seems that the gay marriage cat is clawing its way out of the bag...one more time. California's initiative process is already in full swing for the next election cycle. Here's a link to a draft initiative filed today with California Attorney General Jerry Brown. This time out expect big time gay money to pour into the campaign. This will be one hell of a fight if the mormon cult and fundamentalist end timer fake chistians want to come out to California and fight. Let's hope the mormon cult decides to stay in Utah with their garments pulled up so tight around their neck's that they sound like nellie soprano queens.....i…

GARTER SNAKES CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS Garter Snakes also known as Garden Grass Snakes (Thamnophissirtalis ) can be dangerous. Yes, grass snakes, not rattlesnakes. Here's why: A couple in Sweetwater, Texas, had a lot of potted plants. During a recent cold spell, the wife was bringing a lot of them indoors to protect them from a possible freeze. It turned out that a little green garden grass snake was hidden in one of the plants and when it had warmed up, it slithered out and the wife saw it go under the sofa. She let out a very loud scream. The husband (who was taking a shower) ran out into the living room naked to see what the problem was. She told him there w…
