  1. The headline may be a little over the top, but the fact that Boris Johnson's government has had 40 resignations and the sacking of another all virtually in the last 24 hours is the worst in British history. Many have occupied the most senior cabinet posts in government. It is a truly damning indictment of the man and his leadership. Yet there were more than a few who realised at the outset that this is almost precisely how a Johnson administration would bite the dust. Indeed, I am reminded of what I wrote on this Board some years ago when Johnson was running for the position of Prime Minister. Earlier in his career he had been a journalist for the right-wing Daily Te…

NOTE — Judging from the photo, the top of balcony appears well below the waist of the young man. This is not unusual in older buildings. Current codes require railing to be above center of gravity of most people, making it far less likely that some could topple forward. From Perth Now A young Australian tourist has plunged to his death in horrific circumstances at a hotel resort in Thailand. According to the Bangkok Post Joshua James Connell, 19, from Canberra, was walking along a wall near a hotel swimming pool in Phuket before falling six storeys to his death. There is CCTV which captured the incident, according to local reports. A loc…

From Bangkok Post Twenty-five years ago this month marked the beginning of economic, political and financial market turmoil that would become known as the Asian Financial Crisis. Currencies and stock markets tumbled. Governments were overthrown. Poverty rates soared. The crisis raised serious doubts about the Asian miracle, a period of rapid growth that saw the Tiger economies become the envy of the world. The firestorm was triggered by Thailand’s decision to devalue the baht on July 2, a shockwave that soon reverberated across the region’s emerging markets and beyond as the fallout stretched into 1998. A quarter of a century later, Asia’s economies have b…

From CNN Oslo's annual Pride parade was canceled on Saturday following a deadly shooting at a gay bar that Norwegian police are investigating as a possible terrorist attack. Two people were killed and eight others taken to hospital after the shooting near the London Pub, which describes itself on its website as "the largest gay and lesbian venue in Oslo." Police received multiple calls about the shooting at 1:14 a.m. local time, and arrived at the scene minutes later. They apprehended the male suspect three minutes after arrival, police said. The suspect, charged with terrorism, is a Norwegian citizen originally from Iran…

Note — While exchanging currency at SuperRich at Central World Saturday, the three customers ahead of me were all Chinese. From the Thaiger Thailand received another boost to its tourism industry yesterday when China gave its blessing to resume flights between the two Asian nations. The gradual lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, the scrapping of the Thailand Pass, and the relaxation of mask-wearing have all been much welcomed as the kingdom fights back against two tough pandemic years. And the welcoming of Chinese tourists will provide another shot in the arm to the Thai economy. The Civil Aviation Administration of China has granted permission for …

From Bangkok Post State-run Government Housing Bank (GH Bank) is letting LGBTQ+ couples jointly take out a mortgage loan, said bank president Chatchai Sirilai. It is the first time the bank has introduced such a policy, with the aim of giving LGBTQ+ couples easier access to mortgage loans as part of its aim to help Thais own their own home. GH Bank previously limited co-borrowing to couples or persons with kinship relationships. Under the new policy, LGBTQ+ partners who live together can now jointly take out a mortgage loan. The bank has also launched a new mortgage package dubbed My Pride, offering the minimum retail rate minus 2.40% per y…

From Bangkok Post Former deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak says young Thais want a democracy involving public participation, not one that follows representatives from just a few elite families. Mr Somkid, who has reportedly accepted becoming a prime ministerial candidate of the Sang Anakhot Thai Party, made the comment during a keynote speech marking the 88th anniversary of Thammasat University on Monday. He said he was engaged in social and political issues during his four years at Thammasat University, which inspired him to pursue public service. He said events during the 1973-1976 student pro-democracy protests influenced Thammasat student…

Just reading the latest news on Thailand legalising marijuana this week. I think it's great that times are changing all over the World . I'm not into drugs taking of any sort but it's no use fighting a war over a drug that doesn't seem to make people violent.( Unlike alcohol) I hope the rest of the world including Australia follows suit.

There is one member of this forum who seems to be suffering from some form of paranoia. It could be related to his past drug use (which he admitted in one of his posts). It seems he believes there are people who make fake profiles, join the forum, provide helpful information about a place, and then try to gather information about hustlers. It is one of the strangest conspiracy theories I have ever heard, and unfortunately, he's targeting me and several other members. He even went so far as to accuse people of not really being in the places they say they are and one unfortunate member after posting photos of his passport to prove it, was still called a liar. The sad t…

For those of us wanting to fly direct from Western Australia to Bangkok it looks like Thai Airways will be resuming that route from next month, I heard a rumour it was going to be 3 flights per week and looking on their website it does appear to be so. Flights look to be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, not too keen on the departure time listed (16:20) from Perth but it's better than nothing I guess. I do hope that it works out (and believe it will) and that by the end of the year there will be more than the 3 flights per week with a better departure time from Perth. Here's hoping for a successful resumption of that route with Thai Airways. As always this is all subj…

From Bangkok Post Kasikornbank (KBank) expects the baht to bottom out in the next two months, depending mainly on the US Federal Reserve's benchmark interest rate hike. It also expects the Bank of Thailand to increase its benchmark interest rate two times this year. KBank assesses the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will increase its policy rate by a quarter-point at its meeting in August. Aggressive rate hikes by the Fed would strengthen the US dollar compared with other currencies, including the baht, said Mr Kobsidthi. In this scenario, he said the baht would continue to weaken for the next two months and it could reach a nadir of low 36 again…

From CNBC After more than two years of lockdowns and border controls, Southeast Asia is finally experiencing some semblance of the old days of travel. Flights are steadily returning to 2019 levels in the region’s major economies, with Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia being the most popular destinations this year, according to the flight data analytics firm Cirium. In Singapore, which had the most inbound flight bookings in the region this year, bookings rose from around 30% of 2019 levels in January to 48% by mid-June. The Philippines also saw a sharp uptick in bookings, from about 20% at the start of January, to almost 40% by mid-June, according to Cirium.…

From Bangkok Post A fire destroyed about 10 homes in the Bon Kai community in Bangkok's Pathum Wan district on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the fire started about 1.12pm at a two-storey house in the crowded community in Soi Pluk Chit, off Rama 4 road, and quickly spread to adjacent houses, sending plumes of black smoke into the sky. About 10 fire engines and crews were dispatched to the scene. But the firefighters found it difficult to reach the spot because of the narrow road and they were obstructed by panicky residents running back and forth, moving their belongings out of their houses. By 1.38pm about 10 houses were bur…

From the BBC Australian flag carrier Qantas made history recently by ferrying passengers nonstop between South America and Australia. The aeroplane – a Boeing 787 Dreamliner – departed Buenos Aires shortly past noon local time. Some 9,300 miles (14.973km) and 17-plus hours later, QF 14 landed in Darwin. In doing so, the carrier set two internal records: longest distance covered and longest time in the air for a commercial flight. Captain Alex Passerini, who commanded QF 14, later said: "Qantas has always stepped up to a challenge, especially when it comes to long-haul travel, and this flight is an excellent example of the capabilities and attention to detail of …

From CNN Once primarily sold in markets and beauty stores, skin-lightening products have exploded in their availability online and today, they are pervasive on every major social media platform. On Facebook and Instagram, vendors hawk creams and serums that promise lighter skin yet offer scant information about the products themselves, while on YouTube and TikTok you can find thousands of tutorials by people promoting potent products or home remedies without qualifications that support their claims. On TikTok alone, the hashtag #skinwhitening has over 254 million views, while #skinlightening has another 62 million. "Social media has become the most powerful…

I have a twitter account to follow porn stars, rent boys, and the occasional more serious poster. Twitter's a cesspool, so I don't take it too seriously or really engage, but I've noticed an interesting trend in the last couple of weeks. Onlyfan scams hitting my "suggested" follows lists. For example, this guy: https://twitter.com/xjohnclyde/status/1536371969423458304 They all do the same style of shots. I've seen half a dozen or so in the last 2 weeks come through my suggested follows. Wish I'd followed them so I could pull up more examples. All hot guy in tight shorts showing a huge cock. I'm pretty sure the cock is a dildo or the like, apparently e…

For people in the US - be aware attending any Pride related events - or even in bars, clubs, restaurants. The 31 Patriot Front members arrested in Idaho last weekend were armed and going to a Pride event in Idaho. The goal was chaos, intimidation & violence. Online chatter among these hate groups has spiked in recent weeks and they are getting more aggressive in speech & actions targeting LGBT people, community & events. It can happen at any time and anywhere. Remember what happened at Pulse nightclub in Orlando ?? I’ve never felt threatened before in public settings, but now I find myself scanning the the room/crowd to look for closest exit and if…
