It's funny how someone's perception can be so wrong. I really had imagined this all to be much larger ... it really is only an alleyway.

Nevertheless, shame I won't be able to experience it but looking forward to all those bars popping up like mushrooms, fingers crossed it's not far from Le Meridien!

Closer than twilight was actually. Dream boys is moving near screw boys and fresh which is pretty close. It’s sad you won’t get to see Twilight at least once though. It was only pure luck and a few months difference that allowed me to see it before it went.

  2. I visited briefly in January. Wasn’t impressed by what I saw. Guys looked a bit rough and there were no customers inside. Overall, not somewhere I’d put high on my priority list.

  3. I visited midweek in January. Found lots of twinky guys as you say, some definitely in need of a sandwich, but nowhere near as busy or as smoky as you describe. The one guy I chatted with gave very uninterested vibes so I left after that. I didn’t much like the mamasan either who was alternately too pushy or too hard to find. I also found it busy at first but then when I looked closer I realized that most of the other people weren’t customers, just off duty guys and their friends.

Despite a not great first impression, I am interested in visiting again though as things change so much from night to night.

Great experience at sabaidee spa. Prebook with Line . Very responsive and honest about the boys and their preferences

    Good to know.

+1   I've been using Sabaidee Spa more this year than other shops.  Very professional.  Lots of handsome men.  For my tastes, tend to be a bit better looking than Arena.  Seems to be a core group of regular guys working most days and always some new guys popping up on the Line updates from time to time, so a nice mix.

I had a look on Line, some very cute guys. Is this a full service sort of place?

If you have Thai Baht cash already on you (which you need anyway to pay driver), then you can use a 1000-Baht note at the toll booth as a convenient way of getting smaller bills to pay the driver.

This is the sort of relevant info I wish I’d had in January! Fortunately hotel staff helped me out with the taxi change on arrival but I was a bit embarrassed.

On the subject of fast track, I arrived with Emirates not Thai. Fast track card was handed out on the plane and there were airport staff and signs to direct me once in the terminal. It was fairly straight forward and not at all confusing. Except for the entrance visa signs which worried me because I thought I’d missed something but I didn’t need one.

Artemis is the goddess of the moon so maybe he thought it’s a good idea to call them.

She is also the goddess of the chastity. lol

Artemis is definitely an odd choice. Surely Aphrodite would make more sense? :p

Having watched the recent videos, Babe is still my favourite but I’m very keen to see lucky in the flesh too. I’d be very interested in any further gossip people manage to hear about him lol

Mr Tam has inherited Babe’s “She Bangs” routine. While he is not a natural mover like Babe, he is certainly competent enough as a solo act to demonstrate why he was such a draw during his Jupiter heyday. Lots of rippling muscle on display. But sadly the routine still calls for the ridiculous humping of a headless female mannequin...poor guy

But Babe’s cheeky ‘yes I know how dumb this looks’ smiles we’re all that made that routine watchable!

  8.  Everything is worth what it’s purchaser will pay for it, a wise man once said. I see the point about their business model not suiting some kinds of customer but I think it’s a fallacy to say their service isn’t worth the price. If they can sustain that fee and stay popular then perhaps it’s our perception and not theirs that needs adjusting? Alternatively, we can vote with our wallets and patronize a bar whose prices we find satisfactory. If enough people do then they will shift their business model or close. Until then, the bars will charge as much as the market can bear

I was happy to pay their fee as a newbie for whom everything was new and exciting but can certainly see why Jupiter would feel exorbitant to a veteran or long time visitor. I suspect that short staying foreigners who won’t be visiting multiple bars or staying for long periods of time are more their target audience these days based on what I’ve read here and elsewhere. It sucks for us but at least it means the bar stays open and a unique business stays viable.

I didn’t take colmx’s post as judgmental and can fully see his perspective. But my preference has always been towards the nicer hotels. Why? I make a decent salary, really value my hard earned short visits to Bangkok (which give me a much needed mental and physical break) and don’t want to deal with the hassle of any hotel malfunctions which might put any of my 2 or 3 or 4 days out of kilter. These visits are usually sandwiched in between intense work periods and I NEED that little oasis of peace and enjoyment so as not to go stir crazy. If I was on a two or three week Bangkok trip where my only focus was boys, I would obviously opt for something more economical but I’ve simply never had the luxury of staying that long.

I’ve often thought that I over spend on hotels. Also on food, on taking Grab instead of spending five minutes to negotiate a taxi meter, on drunkenly splashing out on drinks for myself and my boys. I admire those of you who have been prudent and are now enjoying a better retirement lifestyle for your savings. Am starting to consider how I can cut back in order to put more towards my retirement fund.

But my point is- you will never understand others’ motivations nor where they penny pinch to give themselves some luxuries. So don’t shoot them down for it, please. For a first timer like BenG1000, I can absolutely see why he would want everything to go like clockwork and is willing to spend to make that happen. We already know nothing in Bangkok goes according to plan! So let the man have his comfort.

My thinking is much the same. If I’m only going to be there for 4 nights then it’s not such an expense and I’d rather be comfortable and have good service. I chose the Raya for my first stay because the rooms looked huge and it was right in the thick of things. Despite a couple of niggles with the hotel, I didn’t regret the choice. Staff were great and I felt comfortable which was important for my first time in the country.

Somewhere with easy access to Sala denang BTS is another tick box I’d suggest for Beng1000 as it’s easy to use and cheap, possibly less hassle even than Grab or taxis.

How did you go the first time walking into a gogo Wynter11, did you go by yourself? I've put those 3 bars on my list for sure, will be interesting to see which one I'll end up liking most.

Hank75 told me about floorboys yesterday, I always thought it was just the dancers available for off ... good to know!

Hank gives good advice. Tbh I thought the floor guys were better looking than most of the models.

You can read the long version of my trip at the link below but in short, yes I went alone. Yes they will know you’re a newbie, no getting around that, but you know the bar format if you’ve been reading people’s reports so you’ll be ok. Be polite but blunt is my best advice for dealing with staff.  I didn’t have any issues, they seemed to know immediately I was new and politely pointed out how check bins work and other things without prompting.

I liked the mamasans at Dreamboys and Moonlight because they were the least pushy in my experience. They also, along with Jupiter, had the most customers which made the whole thing less intimidating as I could blend with the crowd. So if you’re a bit nervous you may want to try those first rather than Twilight bars which will have a lot of grabby barkers who try to steer you to their bar.

  11. As a recent newbie myself I’d encourage a Moonlight visit. The guys you see on their sites are the models who you most likely won’t be offing anyway. They also have a regular rotation who come out before and after the shows and there are plenty of twinks. Screwboys definitely had the largest selection of twinks though that I saw and at least on the day I visited, better looking than Classic’s guys. Just don’t believe the barker when he says a show is starting in 20min.

Le Meridien is also on my shortlist for next time. The Raya was perfectly located but they may still have upgrade construction happening so I’d avoid it for now.

Yes, screwboys was so packed on their christmas party night, i was seated, after waiting for a while, at the very back, on uncomfortable stool, near the bar, where mamasan and waiter keep passing by to take drinks etc. Still manage to get a boy, so all is fine. But once i get the boy, i dont want to stay in the bar any longer, partly due to smoke but its the uncomfortable seat is what i dont like. Same things with BBB in pattaya, that bar actually had full sign up the few days i was there, so u need to be early and get your seat. And there wont be room if u want to have a boy seating next to you unless u grab the boy earlier too. Still manage to get one boy, albeit for short time only.

That’s probably a few more than I’d like! I think I’ll try to avoid that option then and go for a date either in the mid year or around mid Jan again.

Received a Line message from Moonlight boy saying last night (Thursday) was full house, many customers. Was rather surprised as I thought this was the lull period between Chinese New Year and Songkran however he says the bar is steadily becoming “more famous” as word spreads.

I’ve only been the once but Moonlight was  the most memorable for me and the air of professionalism made me much more comfortable as a newbie. Plus I’d say there’s a lot of people who are happy to stare at Babe and Co with no concern for offing and if they do want an off, the floor boys are as good or better than anywhere else I saw. Other bars couple replicate their success with better shows and a social media presence.

But that is easily what happens during high season, particularly the major holidays. Jupiter and Dream Boys will be full to bursting, you will be lucky to get a seat (a rickety high stool shunted behind some pillar) and zero boys available to you, unless you already have a game strategy or regulars to call upon. Low season weekends are the best, to me. I’d far rather risk being the only one in a bar occasionally but have lion’s share of boy choices in almost any venue I choose to wander into. And in the bigger bars, they will be anywhere between a third to two-thirds full - a comfortable ratio.

Thanks Hank, that answers my concerns perfectly. I’d already decided to try for a weekend but it’s good to know things pick up a bit. I found a huge difference between the Monday and the Thursday of my last trip and was hoping that would be the case. I’m also hoping shows will be more regular as places like screw boys didn’t seem to bother putting them on, not that it stopped them claiming there’s be one soon.

Check out my trip report which is basically through christmas and new year. Id try to avoid the time if i have a choice, but didnt regret going there either way lol just expect much more people, much more boys, higher demand in tips, reluctant to long time, popular guys get snatched early. As long as the lists mentioned wont take out the fun, its actually a great time to be there.

Oh I’d already read your report, but hadn’t taken a lot of note of the dates. I don’t mind a bit of competition as long as it’s not like a plague of locusts and there’s nothing left and no seat left in the bar. Jupiter during my visit was one of my favs because the mamasan was busy and didn’t try to bother me very much.

For Bangkok, I would go in July. The hotel prices are much better, it is low season but not rainy season, and the gay scene is still alive and well...not dull in the slightest. Plus plenty of boys available. I made a short trip last December and would not repeat that, hordes of tourists everywhere, boys are getting Lined non stop by Asian customers on their annual visit so they inflate their asking prices. On the plus side though it feels very festive and you have a good chance of meeting cute fellow tourists on apps and in clubs.

The hordes do sound a bit irritating but I also hate being the only one in the bar which happened a couple of times in my visit in mid Jan, though I was there for the midweek rather than the weekend so that may have influenced things too.

I agree with hank75 and would opt for July rather than the Christmas/New Year's period.  July is a more leisurely time to visit.  Fewer wait times for things.

Whichever time works best for you have a great time. I'd encourage you to have a few days in Pattaya as part of your trip.  Last few visits, I've made a point on staying in both Pattaya and in Bangkok.

I think I’d like to try Pattaya but I’ll likely only be there for 4 nights on the end of some other travel so I’m not sure if the extra travel down there is worth it. I do also like that Bkk is so central so I can pick a hotel in the middle and walk everywhere easily.

  17. Currently looking at possibilities for travel this year and options are either mid July or Dec/Jan. Wondering what Bangkok/Pattaya (haven’t decided which) are like in July (this is low season?) and in Dec around Xmas and New Years. My only experience so far has been in mid Jan.

    Thanks in advance :)

very nice. I think we've all experienced the discomfort of being the only patron in a bar with all of the boys staring at us hoping that we'll choose them.

It was definitely something I struggled with being a fairly reserved person. It was very confronting to have such blatant hopeful attention focused on me like that.
