Since her parents were born prior to independence of, respectively, Jamaica and India, do they not have in common with the first 8 presidents being born British subjects? lol, Slam dunk for Harris. Would not her citizenship by birth be no less equal to, as robust as, their citizenship by default naturalization at Independence?

Now then, the name of a Hindu deity ... that could be her undoing on the voting ballots. How unChristian, so unAmerican.

Anyone so fast and furious against Harris is likely OK with 4 more years of Trump.   Call me close minded.

If Harris was beholden to a foreign entity, that would be a horse of a different color.  :ahappy:

Biden was not my top choice but this is the direction we are going.  Biden/Harris 2020.

  2. Below is Cherise, a character in the Hulu 10 episode remake of the movie HIgh Fidelity, based on Nick Hornsby's novel.

I loved Cherise, an awesome character played by Da'Vine Joy Randolph.

The main character is a young woman played by Zoe Kravitz.    She's very good, IMO.   The story was originally a young man's journey, so switching it up to a young woman is refreshing.   Using characters of diverse race and sexuality is also refreshing.

I binge watched it.  The first epi made me shrug my shoulders but glad I carried on.   Would give it a B+ to A-.

I was three years old when my dad came home from the Philippines in 1946. Could not figure out who he was, but still glad to see him,  I sort of remember.

My Dad was on Tinian and Okinawa at the end.  He came home, got married, and 5 kids later I was born.

Dad never talked about Tinian, at least not when I was as boy, and I learned about it after he was long gone.

Ever notice that 99% of the visitors to see the sunken Arizona at Pearl Harbor are Japanese ? Also "different".

DC  Admirals' celebration of the bombing with special cake trucked in from St. Louis. Copies of the cake were sold all over the US. A new two-piece swimsuit was named after Bikini Atoll.

What do you mean, 99% of the Arizona visitors are Japanese?   Are you exaggerating to make a point or is that data documented somewhere?

I may be wrong, but never considered James Baldwin

Yet one can find people that disagree the characters in Giovanni's Room made love, or people that disagree Lysis and Alexias ever made love in Last of the Wine.

Was a difficult task getting the point across back in the 50s and 60s, to get that published.

Call it what you will.  Clever, subtle, deft, and so on.

  6. Find Me covers a lot more ground than CMBYN.

    ××××××××××    SPOILER.   xxxxxxxxx

Did you notice the part in Cadenza where Michile wets his mouth with wine and Elio needs to figure out where to set the bottle down, so he sets it on the floor?

  7. Imagine family gatherings of siblings, aunts, uncles and so on, gathered around sharing memories, how those conversations drift.  That's part of the nature of conversation.

That said, the OP might give some thought to their goal for the thread and be mindful how well their first post might frame the intent of the discussion.

If folks decide to go off on a tangent, others might politely reign in the dialogue back on track.

Or wave a white flag and move on.

  8. Sometimes one can question what we are taught.

Some believe history was re-written to make Hoover the villain though he was actually a humanitarian, kind of like how we have come to refer to Reagan as the great communicator, though he may not have been, and how an airport was renamed for him in spite of Reagan being one of the most scandal plagued presidents.

I am not an expert historian, but I did learn an alternate view at the Hoover LIbrary and also at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates.

Hoover insisted his gravesite be visible from his birthplace home as a symbol of never forgetting humble beginnings.

Like I said, the fucking chicken sandwiches can't possibly taste good enough for me to give one cent of my own money to that company.

No matter how good they taste, I'd never enjoy eating one, just like i can't stomach watching a Mel Gibson movie, no matter how well reviewed.

I am always left wondering: "How much of what Bill Maher says, and how he says it, is really a reflection of his thinking, and how much of it is a shock jock trying to boost his ratings?" I lean toward Option B.

He wants to continue to think of us a silly, cocksuckers first, before anything else, and that we should have no cause to protest his old school ways of referring to our sexual habits every chance he can get.  As comedians go, he's not exactly fresh.

  11. One of the members acted as though an innocent old codger, yet was always stirring up division in all sorts of ways.
One of his schemes was pointing to the problems with California and even the CalExit movement.
CalExit turned out to be an initiative run out of a PO box in Fresno, owned by some dude in Russia.   After that I became suspicious of all the trolls and the wacky blogs they would link to.
