  1. Wouldn’t it be awful if they moved after the 12 th! 9 days leave ...how can you manage? The sooner you retire the better, how long you got to go?
  2. Well 100 baht for 30 seconds is equal to GBP 285 per hour.
  3. Exactly...just sleep as long as you need....call it jet lag...call it no non sleeping for 26 + hours ...call it what you like...nobody knows..just sleep it off . Simple.
  4. To me there is no such thing as Jet Lag. If you have a 12 hour flight then you probably have a 20 hour door to door journey. This coupled with say 4 hours preparation and another few hours unpacking means you are on the go for 26+ hours with little if any sleep. Longer if you have a longer flight. No wonder you feel fucked. The answer for some ...Business Class ...for the rest of us..just sleep it off as required.
  5. I have never, in 15 years, paid an off fee to a mamasan. It always goes on the check bin (thai for a bill). In fact I haven’t, and will, not speak to them. Hideous beings
  6. Padborn, sorry I have been away and have not explained fictitious bookings. It’s simple...put in any date on a website then check their prices. Nothing sinister. You will see that Google Flights comes out £50 more than Traveltrolley on Eva Air flights from LHR to BKK.
  7. Same in Pattaya, they will keep them.
  8. In the UK some have a rotten reputation, which is why I say read the reviews. There are plenty of websites. How it works outside the uK I don’t know.
  9. I have just put in a search on Google Flights for a few fictitious flights. I usually fly Eva air from London to Bangkok and book it through a consolidator called Traveltrolley. I compared the two and Google came out more by expensive by £50 each time. Try it! IMHO find yourself a good reliable consolidator ( read the reviews) and stick with them. I never do Airmiles as I don’t want to be forced to stay with the same airline when their prices rise ( Qatar for example). I’m better off browsing around and picking up bargains as they arise.
  10. Probably more of them run by Farangs, than nowadays. And we understand these things more than the Thais.
  11. I agree. I stopped using Casa Fellini when I went in there one evening and the place was full of cigarette smoke generated by the owner standing behind the bar smoking non stop. Lewinskis, right next door, is very very good and the portions are very generous. They also serve real Draught Guiness which is as good, or better, than you will get anywhere, including Ireland!
  12. Not sure you are right there. I only use Hornet and it allows you to search anywhere in the world and to send messages. All this is free and requires no false positioning.
  13. You can also do the same for Hornet Errr not so... Im in the UK and am now using both searching for boys in Pattaya to meet next month. (Select "explore the world" in Hornet) The only thing I would say is that Gay Romeo is soooo bloody hard to use. Hornet is far easier.
  14. Wrong, sooner or later it will happen! Ive had 1000 bt stolen from my pockets twice while being in the shower (admittedly by ladyboys). Both times the shower was in a separate room. Take everything with you.
  15. I have just been issued a new card by the Natwest bank in the UK and enclosed was a leaflet outlining their exact costs for exchange of foreign currency... and it is horrifying. So, to exchange 10,000 GBP to Baht the costs are: 34 visits to cash machine: 34 X 220 Bt = 7480 Bt .....£178 Nat west Bank Charge per visit 34 X £5 = 7140 Bt......£170 Natwest Foreign Xchange fee (2.75%)... 10,000 X 2.75% = 11550 Bt... £275 Total ......................................................................................... 26170 Bt.....£623 I'm somewhat speechless, so def continuing with cash and my Thai bank account! Didn't realise quite how much I was saving.

    Retirement

I rent. The only way I could buy would be to sell my UK property which I am not prepared to do at present. The rent is quite cheap. For a condo in Yensabai Condo I pay 690 per day, but have been staying there a long time.
  17. I would never carry an expired passport. I know why you are doing it but the average Thai Police man will look at it, not understand and could cause you endless grief. Current thinking is a photocopy of it and of the visa will suffice. Even the Police in Pattaya said this was sufficient last year.
  18. If they want to see mine they are quite welcome to come to my hotel. That’s where it stays, especially as I am not often in BKK, where I can get another one if I lose it. I carry a photocopy and will not, ever, carry the real thing as I spend most evenings drinking....!
  19. For a 3 month stay I get through a total of Approx £10,000. At a max of £300 withdrawal this means 34 visits to the cash machine. So the 220 baht withdrawal fee becomes approx about £178. Plus the reduced rate of exchange, say another £200 lost. Total exchange costs are therefore £378 or the equivalent of 15800 Bt. Cash and Thai bank account for me too!

    Retirement

I have been retired for about 16 years. I left work at 54 (actually made redundant but took early retirement) highly recommended! I have a house just outside London and really have no incentive to sell it as I want to have some bolt hole if needs be. So I travel to Thailand for 3 months over the awful UK winter and also one month in July/ August. Atlthough last year I stayed 4 months for the first time but found it too much. Three months is usually my max before I need to leave! I stay in Pattaya. I have often thought about selling the house and moving permnatly, but if I do it is a one way ticket as I would be unable to re-buy near London. So I’m still doing the 3 month/1 month thing!
  21. I'm amazed, in this day and age, anybody believes anything they read in a newspaper
  22. “Significant wounds to his right leg? Heavily intoxicated.” I’d say neither looking at the video. Then it is a quote from a newspaper....
