Silom Night Market

Recommended Posts

I have the book and cherish it. Did you type the quote or did you get it somewhere digital?

Now having walked the Silom area at night, I must say I am happy about the change. There are still 4 underwear shops left (that would be the only thing I would miss). Everything now on the side to the buildings, the sidewalk and side to street is free. Congratulations to cleaning it up and I hope it stays as it is.

It is all a bit academic anyway, the number of stalls operating in "no-stalls Silom" is increasing every day, and particularly every night - on shop windowsills, entry stairs, under overhead shop awnings, etc.

while I am sure neither the building owner nor the BMA could easily prove the demarcation line between private and public space I am surprised venues like Sunrise Tacos consider their business image is enhanced by their window space hosting a stall selling sex aids or 7/11 does not cares that 50% of their entrance stairs are obstructed by stalls - or are they the ones collecting "rent" rather then the BMA?

I knew they would start sneaking back with the fake viagra, fake watches, handbags and tshirts and all the other stuff they used to sell in the different stalls on Silom! So maybe I can find the Looking movie and the third season of Transparent after all when Im back in December? I kind of enjoyed the chaos along Silom Road.

Count me out! I agree that sidewalks are for walking, and I hated the obstacle course that was Silom Road. However, having tried to walk in Ho Chi Minh City, I would take the sidewalk vendors over the motorbikes.

It doesn't take an entire sidewalk to sell Viagra.
