It’s convenient to those in Barra by the most touristy beach(es) but it’s usually not very well-attended. Sauna Rios, another gay sauna with no working guys, is more crowded. But this story should remind us that, especially as the Brazil economy continues to falter, saunas and their customers could very well be targets for armed robbery. I went there to meet a friend and had good time with him but both saunas were disappointing. Not a single boy in Plataforma on Thursday (I went there because I thought there was a party). 10/12 boys on Friday. Very average looking. I met Filipe that I knew from before. The entrance, room (not as clean as in 117 and without shower), drinks and churrasco were ... 70 R$. Same amount that boys are asking. I guess they would accept 50 R$ in Plataforma. Mezzaninu yesterday saturday : many customers (50/60) and only 15/20 boys. Noone really to my liking. Some eye candy of boys showering but it is not as in former Lagoa : they do not clean the glasses so with very reduced lightning in the room, fog and droplets on the glasses, it is sometimes hard to see anything. Some boys care to throw water on the glasses and look at patrons watching them and come to see these patrons after the shower. I had no interest in the 2 who came to see me ... As elsewhere in the world, the bars and saunas with boys are somehow struggling to have boys come to their place : it is the first time I see in Mezzaninu that entrance of boys will be free next Friday (and there is a churrasco this Friday). Many new positions of policemen were created (thousands in Rio), investments were made in weapons and new cars : in the police station close to Sigueira Campos metro station, they have to park the cars all the way to the middle of the street. Many are brand new. In Porto Alegre, the number of armed policemen stopping cars by day and by night is just impressive. Today I saw intervention of police on the beach of Copacabana. They were called and arrived very quickly with weapons visible and armed and went to catch a thief on the beach. Last time I saw action, it was a few years ago : a thief had been caught by people in the street. He was lying on the pavement, firmly maintained on the ground by muscular men. Police was called but never showed up at least during the hour I watched. Of course there is a negative aspect of the situation : since beginning of the year, more than 1200 persons have been shot dead by the police in Rio de Janeiro ! Uber is sometimes difficult to meet at airport and sometimes more expensive than Aerocoop. With Aerocoop, they give you a receipt at the booth showing how much you are going to Pay. From GIG to center is 63 R$ and 86 R$ to anyplace in Copacabana. The return to GIG is always cheaper than any other taxi or any uber : it is a flat 50 R$ rate from anyplace in Copacabana, Ipanema or even Leblon. They have an application (aerocoop) and whattsapp number to make reservation. They operate 24/7. Very reliable. Right now, heavy rains in Salvador lead to close the metro and floods in the streets. The oil spill from the Greek ship last month is now polluting thousands of kilometers of coast from the North of Brazil through Bahia state and reached recently Rio de Janeiro State. Actually Uber now designates Porta B and C on 2nd Floor as pick-up spots and just yesterday, a busy Saturday at GIG, it was quite simple finding my driver. Trip to Ipanema was 55 R$, less than 14 USD. (BTW, 117 was buzzing with beautiful, potent, horny men last night...) I came from 3 days in Salvador where Uber also was by far the most convenient and super economical way to get around.
