Been to the Samsuck Sauna this evening on a rented motor bike. Ive taken it for 3 days and today it has come in very useful for getting to Dongtan and also to the Samsuck. Im reasonably confident riding the small scooters in Pattaya but there is of course a risk, as there is crossing 2 nd Road. I retired from my long term job and draw a pension of about 2500 pds per month ie 125000 thai baht. To this I will shortly be adding the UK state pension. I supplement this by taking on short term employment contacts so I am well able to finance my three trips a year to Pattaya of 3 or 4 weeks duration. I have thought about locating to Thailand when I fully retire but have decided against it, as I concious that living there would be a totally different proposition. I love the gay scene in Pats but I am not particularly attracted to Thailand as a whole and I have met a few farangs who regret the move. The appreciation over the baht from 1 pnd = 70 baht to an average of 50 and Thai inflation has hurt those whose income is in the lower range. Medically Im covered by travel insurance for my trips but if I located permanently in Thailand I wouldnt have this protection and this should be a really important factor in anyone's decision to live in Thailand. No doubt a monthly income would be sufficient to live a very confortable life in Thailand.

The Bell Travel bus is now very popular. If you just turn up at their desk you could have a long wait for a seat. Better to book online. The bus service mentioned by travelerjim stops at three places (South Pattaya Road for Boystown) on Sukumvit Road pattaya. From there you need to make your own way to your accomodation, which could be difficult if you have luggage. Also if your are not Familiar with Pattaya its difficult to know where to get off. The Bell Travel Option is the best bus option. If you are looking to economise sharing a taxi is possible. I have succesfully approached other passengers at the luggage carousel with that suggestion. Single men are likely to be heading to Pattaya.
