Here is what I wrote: continued…Installment 16 A: Had a quiet, leisurely morning checking messages and reading forum posts. Went downstairs to the coffee shop for a latte and pastry. Didn’t want to eat too much and planning to skip lunch altogether. Meeting several forum members for dinner at G’s. Looking forward to good company and food. Decided to head over to Silom mid-afternoon. Planned to get a massage. Recalled reading a post about an older H-type shop off Surawong called Magic Touch. Thought I would check it out. Turned out to be a big mistake. Locating the shop was a bit of a challenge. There is a narrow street between 56 Surawong and Le Meridien that appears to be a dead end leading to The Rose. When you get to The Rose, the street sort of zig zags around and continues on past a number of shops which all appear to do laundry. Approximately 75 meters from the Rose is a very short alley to the left that is very non-descriptive with four or five small shops, one of which happens to be Magic Touch. Google maps was helpful up until the alley. The shop should have better marketing from the street into the alley. Initially I walked past the alley entrance a good 25 meters where it was mostly residential, so turned around and finally was able to determine exact location. Shop is older. Ground floor contains a very small reception area. Decor is very dated, and the place was hot, smelled musty, and didn’t appear to be the cleanest establishment. Only one person was working, so no options regarding therapists. No idea how many people they may have on staff. Of course, this was around 3:30pm in the afternoon, so I wasn’t expecting many employees, but certainly more than one. He was not my type at all…older gentleman, late 30’s or possibly early 40’s, certainly not twink material, definitely on the chubby side…zero attraction whatsoever. Provided me with a glass of water, turned on A/C unit, showed me a price list. At this point I should have politely declined and just left, but I went ahead and agreed to a 60 minute oil massage. Foot massage wasn’t an option, otherwise I might have chosen that. Keep in mind there is nobody else in this shop…just the ‘therapist’ and myself. Paid THB 600 and he proceeded to take me up to the very top floor…four flights of very narrow steps that were not so bad going up, but coming down felt extremely unsafe. Thought it strange we had to go all the way up when each floor had two massage rooms. One room was larger with an ensuite shower, small sink, and urinal. No toilet. Second room was smaller and there was no ensuite, but a shower nearby off the hallway and a toilet. I was in the large room with the ensuite. Massage table was typical wood frame with thin padding, face cradle, with towel correctly placed. Often the towel will cover the face cradle in many of these shops. Therapist gave me an old towel that honestly felt like it was made of sandpaper. Shower was obviously very old, could have definitely used a bottle of Clorox, body wash was almost empty, water was lukewarm at best and just a trickle. No way to adjust pressure or temperature. Just on/off. Hesitated even getting on the massage table as I questioned in my mind just how clean the cover was. Looked very old and stained. After taking a quick shower and finally getting on the table, therapist came back into the room. Started with the sandpaper towel covering me and some dry presses. Oh, I should mention that when he came into the room, I could tell from the sound that he had removed his clothing and tossed them off to the side. Without him even touching me, it was rather obvious where this could lead. Massage skills were basically non-existent. Probably one of my worst experiences in Thailand. The entire time I was laying on the table I just wanted it to end. Just a miserable experience overall. Absolutely no chemistry whatsoever, so no desire for any ‘special services’. It couldn’t end soon enough, and I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Tip was never mentioned, so no idea if there was a mandatory amount or not, and certainly no extra services were provided. I was just so anxious to get out of there I gave him THB 500. Not only was the massage itself terrible, but I walked out feeling dirty…actually dirty…like I wanted to go all the way back to Asoke then and there to take a nice, long and hot shower at the condo. Of all my various escapades, I would never return nor would I recommend this shop. The only other shop I would not return to is Phoenix, which I visited in October. While the masseur was ok, it was difficult to find, not as convenient to Saphan Kwai BTS, and in general a sleazy environment.

I don't believe anyone is forcing you to visit. If you don't care to visit a place, then don't. There are many places in the world I have no desire to see or visit in person. I don't go around bad mouthing them. That is totally inappropriate. If you don't want to visit Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia...or wherever. That is your choice. There is absolutely no reason to be nasty and mean about it. We all have our preferences as to what we like and don't like...not just in regards to men, but people and places in general. That is life. Get over it. My mother always told me...if you cannot say something nice about it, then perhaps you shouldn't say anything at all. Maybe you should follow that advice.

Thanks for that information. I actually had no idea there were two different companies with the same name. I used the SuperRich located in the lower level of the new Central Park Mall, but do not recall if the sign was green or orange. Not something I really knew to pay attention to until now. I also assumed SuperRich was all one company so the exchange rate would be the same at all locations. Sounds like I need to shop around a little before exchanging currency in the future.

My mood killers would be the same, whether non-paid interactions or escort relationships. In general it would apply to all situations. Had a similar experience to you many years ago while visiting friends in Atlanta. Went to a gay bar called Bulldogs and met a really nice guy. Very handsome, young and athletic...probably a college swimmer type guy. Anyway, after a couple of drinks, good conversation and a lot of flirting...we left and went back to his place. We were getting hot and heavy when he stopped and wanted me to spank him. Not something I was really into, but I obliged with a light smack on the butt. He kept insisting I continue and each time wanted it harder and harder. Total mood killer for me. Finally told him he was a nice guy, but this was something I just wasn't into and needed to leave. Couldn't get dressed and out of there fast enough.

Is the exchange rate at the various SuperRich locations in Silom the same? Or is each location slightly different? I would think they would be the same, but you never know...which is why I ask the question.

Mind sharing which bar so the rest of us can be more alert when visiting?

Mood killers for me are someone being aggressive or causing pain; someone wanting me to be aggressive or physically administer pain to them; someone who won't kiss or is a bad kisser. One of my favorite things to do is shower together before and after, so unless they refused that part of the fun not taking a shower wouldn't be an issue. Since I often prefer overnights or long term, I make sure they know in advance I expect them to join me for breakfast before departing. I cannot recall the phone ever being an issue, but I would not hesitate to ask them to put the phone away. Not really a mood killer for me, though. If they continued using the phone, I would invite them to leave and adjust compensation accordingly.

Very true. Considering everything else that has happened surrounding the closing of Atlas and reopening in a different location under a different name...I guess nothing should surprise me. Had not considered that possibility.

As @vinapu, Pattaya is no different from any other place in the world when using online apps. Use normal precautions and common sense when meeting strangers. As the esteemed @vinapu has said numerous times...tastes vary from person to person. I thought the food was just ok at Happy Beer Garden and didn't care for the environment. I preferred Sarica for both quality of food and environment. We each have different tastes, both in food and in the atmosphere we like. That's what makes the world so interesting. Would be a very boring place if we all liked the same things.

I have no idea how accurate this is, but when I was in Bangkok this past Feb/Mar/Apr and went to Sarica someone told me that Happy Beer Garden was owned by the same people. Perhaps Sarica employees will be able to help out at Happy Beer Garden if that is true.

Never been there, so don't know anything about the club or its potential, but 50,000 Baht seems like a paltry sum for a business. Someone on the forum was talking about opening up a bar in Pattaya in the future. Maybe they should jump on that now at that price. Sounds like a bargain.

@floridarob...I assume you are now in Bangkok. Have you been able to connect with your friend who lost his job? How is he doing? Are drugs a factor? Seems the site had some technical issues and was down for a couple of days. Must be using a backup, as some posts no longer exist...like your comments about your friend using drugs.

You might want to double check the fine print on your ticket. Some places allow airlines to pass on a fuel surcharge even after you have purchased the ticket. Our next door neighbors got hit with such a surcharge after the fact on a recent trip to Africa (last week). They had purchased the tickets months ago...long before missiles started flying. Regulations vary by country, but it seems here in the US the airlines are allowed to pass on the fuel surcharge regardless of when the ticket was purchased.

That comment led me to the following information: Ordinary (E-Class) Visa: Formerly known as a business visa, this is the best option for stays longer than 30 days, including working, retirement, or students. It is valid for 30 days initially but can be extended for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. If you enter on an E-Class visa, you can apply for an Extension of Stay (EOS): >EB Visa (Business/Ordinary): For those working or intending to work, extendable up to 12 months. >ER Visa (Retirement): For retirees showing proof of retirement. This would be the category I would pursue as a temporary solution. Cambodia does have an actual retirement visa I would apply for eventually.

Since moving to Denver a couple of years ago, weather delays and cancellations are always a concern...especially during the winter months. One would think the airport was prepared to handle snow and ice, but it seems like the first few flakes of snow that fall they are ready to cancel flights and close the airport. lol. Go figure. Anyway, it is always good to have a plan B and plan C just in case. My concern at the moment isn't so much about getting there for an upcoming trip. It is more about the ability to get back home. The longer this drags on with no end in sight, the lower jet fuel supplies become worldwide. They have already been reporting in the news that Europe currently has approximately six weeks of jet fuel remaining. While one always needs to question the accuracy of news reports, it does give one a reason to perhaps rethink any immediate travel plans.

Same here. Romantic at heart and prefer monogamous relationship. Have met someone from Cambodia who is currently working in Bangkok. Plans to return to Cambodia near Siem Reap soon. Looking into a visit to Cambodia...never been. If all goes well, plan to 'hang up my boxing gloves' and apply for retirement visa there.

I am curious how you managed to stay in Cambodia for six months. What visa did you have? I believe the tourist visa is only good for 30 days, but renewable for another 30 days. I have been investigating retirement visa's, but have not come across anything that would allow me to stay there for six months. Would be interested in learning more about this. Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, guys. Was just spending some time browsing the Gay Cambodia section and ran across this.

It is a little intimidating the first couple of times you walk through. As @vinapu put it, walk slowly, smile at everyone, enjoy the scenery, and if you see something you like...go for it.
