  1. A factor may be that a taxi travelling from Suvarnabhumi to the centre of Bangkok, is more likely to be able to pick up a subsequent fare than one travelling to somewhere like Patong. I think too many licenses were issued in Phuket(possibly the sale of licenses benefited someone) so that the drivers need to recoup when they finally get a fare!
  2. Hopefully but not necessarily. The price goes up as the plane fills up. Eg in Eva first the Business Basic sells out then the prices move to Business Standard and then Business Up. Supply and Demand
  3. The western world is in a battle currently to defend democracy, decency and the rule of law in the world. It feels inappropriate to be enabling a modern day Lord Haw Haw to broadcast his propaganda in this thread. His obnoxious views seem to be already destroying another gay forum and I hope that this is not allowed to happen here.
  4. That is exactly what happened in Phnom Penh when the Khmer Rouge took over in 1975.
  5. Your wallet is an indivisible part of who you are. Discussions about would someone love if you didn't have a wallet are as pointless as conversations about if you would be loved if didn't have a good heart(both physical and emotional) or a good character or attitude or personality or cock or education or outlook.............
  6. Bruised ego, understandably. Rise above it, what goes around comes around........
  7. Beautifully described and moving to hear the views of someone from an equivalent country to Thailand
  8. Thanks Ichigo, interesting and enjoyable reports. Glad you enjoyed your trip!
  9. I expect that road trip was organised through Siam Roads. https://siamroads.com/#Thailand If you look under Chiang Mai you will see that Woody is still a guide with car.
  10. Min was referring to a waiter not a barman. Expect a barman would earn a little more. I doubt that many staff in these bars are actually paid the minimum wage.
  11. Great trip reports, Vinapu, thank you. Re Garlands. I can understand that some people might object to the ostentatiousness of giving in that way, rather than a quietly donated folded 1,000 baht note. But the ostentatiousness also gives face to the recipient, and we know that's important, sometimes more than the money.
  12. What country likes immigrants with a sense of entitlement?
  13. Happy Ending
  14. Enjoying your commentary, thanks
  15. This process sounds so soulless, so clinical. I'd rather go with the flow and risk an occasional dud. Although the idea of Listerine being top of any range is entertaining.
  16. Thank heavens this fire didn't happen when it was open. Like others I was very aware of the dangers there. In checking the exits I once managed to open(it was usually locked) a door out to the rear of the building from the top floor. It led out to a fire escape, but it was blocked lower down with old freezer units.

    Thai Pass

I just submitted my regular UK Travel Insurance Schedule, which has no specific reference to Covid, and my application was still approved in an hour.

    Thai Pass

However the Bangkok Post are also reporting that International arrivals are being monitored for Monkeypox via the Thai Pass system, without explaining how that is being done. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2315878/govt-ups-monkeypox-alert-level
  19. Is that a money belt in your underpants or are you just pleased to see me........to paraphrase Mae West
  20. That sounds like a fun evening, and who knew there was a Patong Museum!
  21. EVA today cancelled all flights from UK until the end of June...........
  22. I second the recommendation for Le Bouchon for when it reopens. I always enjoyed the ambiance and the food, and it was very convenient for the bars afterwards too! Less so in it's new location sadly.
  23. EVA have stopped selling seats on flights up to the end of June, but still selling for July.............
  24. EVA are expected to make an announcement next week about the resumption of flights, according to their London ticketing office. Unfortunately the expectation is that because of the isolation required for their flight attendants between flights, after the unfortunate incidence of them bringing covid in to Taiwan, they won't be resuming flights until June or July.
